And how long has been Nagy been there?  DII thru transition to DI.

ESPN stated 21 years during the game.

Aaron Johnston has also been coaching the SDSU women for 16-17 years.  They are also going dancing this year.

Amazing he survived. They were awful the first 5 years in Division 1.

Either you are confusing SDSU/Johnston with another school or you are trying to make a point that coaches deserve a long time to get their programs successful.  In SDSU's first five years of DI, they were 21-7, 19-9, 25-6, 23-7 & 22-11.  That's a winning % of 70+ - not very "awful"!

Yep.  http://www.gojacks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=15000&ATCLID=942527

Worst year was his first, when they went 15-12 (2000-01).  Since then it's been banner raising, transition, and more banner raising.

You are correct but AV's statement was that they were awful the first 5 years of DI.  Their first year of DI was 2004-5 - they were 21-7 that year.

Has everything to do with the conversation in this thread.

You must be trying to relate it to UND/Jones somehow.  I don't get it.

The conversation is about SDSU making the tourney...to how long their coach has been there.  Nobody gets fired after the transition to D1 basketball so what is your point?

2004-05. 10-18

2005-06. 9-20

2006-07. 6-24

2007-08. 8-21

2008-09. 13-20

My math puts that at 46-103. Awful.

Yes, your math is awful, 2008-09 was their first year when transition was done. His transition record 2004-05 through 2007-08 is 33-83. Like someone says who gets fired after transitioning from DII to DI especially when you are an Independent, there was no GWC for basketball during their transition.

Also, how did SDSU get Daum?  Kid is 6'9" with a huge wingspan, shoots 3's and has a full post game.  Not the fastest kid in world but doesn't need to be.

He apparently had several offers, but none by the in-state Nebraska schools. I'm guessing McDermott is kicking himself a little bit over that decision.

Just cleaning some things up on the topic. Someone mentioned 21-7 in 2004-05. Nagy barely survived those transition years. I remember it well.

He actually did Nagy a favor by inadvertently including SDSU's first year as a full D-1 school, it raised his winning percentage from 28.4% to 30.9%.

It's not quite apples to apples because Nagy had quite a bit more time at SDSU before the transition, but if you count the four transition years and their first three years of D-1 play, Nag had a 79-131 record for a winning percentage of .376.  For comparison, Jones record in that same time frame was 101-121 for a winning percentage of .455.

Obviously Nagy had some pretty good years after that, having that Wolters kid blossom didn't hurt, but even if you include the 4th year out of transition for both schools (UND still obviously still having a few games left), Jones still has a higher winning percentage in that time frame, though that was the year Nagy punched his first ticket to the dance without even having come close prior. I'm not saying that one is better than the other, just laying out their records over a comparable time frame. There is no arguing that Nagy struggled big time during the transition and the first few years out of it.

Since Nagy made the NCAA tournament in his 4th year out of the transition, as it appears, and it's obvious that the comments in this thread were made to promote Jones vs. Nagy and their histories, UND should be putting on their dancing shoes Saturday night.
