UND Fan Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Slovakia putting on major pressure here. How much time left? Quote
Ray77 Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 How much time left? 3:06 to go in the Slovakia/Czech Republic game (I'm watching online so may be a little behind). Quote
Ray77 Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 Plekanec hits the crossbar with 1:07 to go for the Czechs. Quote
Ray77 Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 Slovakia penalty with 52 seconds to go. That should do it. Quote
Ray77 Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 5-3 Czech Republic Yeah, I must be way behind. Quote
cberkas Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Yeah, I must be way behind. Not by much Quote
Ray77 Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 Boy, Slovakia handled the end of this game terribly. They had major pressure with about 1:30 to go and didn't pull their goalie. Then took a penalty. Then down a man, pulled him with about 45 seconds to go and got scored on. Nice work. Quote
andtheHomeoftheSIOUX!! Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Czech Republic wins 5-3 Pretty good finish to that game. Quote
MafiaMan Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Not-so-fast, my friend! Double not-so-fast, my friend on Slovakia over Czech Republic. Latvia over Switzerland though...NAILED IT! Quote
Ray77 Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 Oshie in Sochi becomes an overnight sensation Quote
WiSioux Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Can we start taking guesses as to sponsorships for TJ? Quote
darell1976 Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 With Oshie getting a lot of attention by the media along with UND, Grand Forks, etc....will this boost recruting for UND hockey? Quote
keikla Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 http://www.thestar.com/sports/sochi2014/hockey/2014/02/17/whats_wrong_with_olympic_womens_hockey_not_much_cox.html Fabulous article about women's hockey in the Olympics. Considering the Dutch basically swept most of the speed skating events, it's not like women's hockey is the only sport with just a few at the top. Quote
Wilbur Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 With Oshie getting a lot of attention by the media along with UND, Grand Forks, etc....will this boost recruting for UND hockey? Lot of NDSU folks don't think this is too big of a deal..... Quote
Oxbow6 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Lot of NDSU folks don't think this is too big of a deal..... Correct...the Olympics aren't a big deal, no one cares about hockey, who's watching at 6 in the morning and he isn't Brock Jensen...are some of the comments I've heard in the F-M area. I guess maybe hoping to get a crack at arena FB or getting a job at Best Buy is a bigger deal than being a rock star in Sochi? 4 Quote
Oxbow6 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 My money is still on Oshie being on the cover of SI this week. Quote

Haha next time someone throws out the 'no cares cares about hockey' line, feel free to tell them that the USA-CAN preliminary women's hockey game pulled 5.6 million viewers in Canada alone. Quote

Says anybody outside the Imperial Cass-Clay County Megalopolis. Oshie, on the other hand, is now a household name in the United States. Any questions? 2 Quote
Ray77 Posted February 19, 2014 Author Posted February 19, 2014 Lot of NDSU folks don't think this is too big of a deal..... They may say that but they don't truly believe that. 1 Quote
Wilbur Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 A buddy of mine is a huge Blues fan. Big time TJ Oshie fan, but because he went to SU he continues to believe college hockey is irrelevant. He actually got upset at all the attention UND is getting out of this. He thought his mite team should get credit, but I had to let him know that TJ didn't play mites. 1 Quote
