Wilbur Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 With the way the teams have been playing I'd say advantage USA, but you throw everything out the window when these teams get together. I knew the Slovaks would push Canada, but not to the point where Canada had to come from two down to win it. Should be fun 9:30 AM hockey! Quote
BigGreyAnt41 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Isn't it at 10:30? Or are you in the mountain time zone? Quote

Redneksioux Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 NHL.com is showing 10:30 central. Tsn is reporting 9:30 central. If someone knows please post up I gotta know when to get sick at work;) Quote
sprig Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 I'd have to do some digging. If I recall correctly, it wasn't like "let's not invite that 17 year old Toews kid to camp" I thought it was more like "Hey 16 year old Toews kid, you know how you've always wanted to play in the world juniors, well going to the states for college isn't going to help your chances, you'd be a lot better off playing in the dub" It was actually a bit more direct than that. Before his first WJC, it was said by the Canadian hierarchy, if you choose college over major junior, you may not be making the Canadian team. They tried to use it as leverage to get him to major junior. Appears they were not crazy enough to go through with the threat when he chose the Sioux. Quote

yzerman19 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Wouldn't the U.S. play the 4th place team in Group B either way if they beat Canada. If I recall correctly, the pool winners get a bye into the semis. Pool A winner should play the winner of Pool B 2nd place vs Pool A 3rd place EDIT: NEW FORMAT THIS YEAR! Quote
cberkas Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 If I recall correctly, the pool winners get a bye into the semis. yzerman19 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 I keep hearing about a change in the format this year with the top 4 teams from each group making out of group play. Oh Really! I have been known to be wrong before- I was going off the old format in my last couple posts. Quote
cberkas Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Oh Really! I have been known to be wrong before- I was going off the old format in my last couple posts. Germany is in, unless the Czech's win against the Slovaks. Quote
yzerman19 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 New Format is a traditional bracket. 4 quarterfinal games with the USA's likley schedule Pool A #1 (USA or Canada) vs Pool B #4 (Swiss) Pool A #2 (USA or Canada) vs Pool B #3 (Russia or Finland) Quote
cberkas Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 After 1 Czech's 2 Slovak's 0, 14:44 in the 1st Sweden 1 Russia 0 Quote
Wilbur Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 I was wondering why TSN was saying Germany had a chance. I had no idea the format changed. Game time is 10:30 officially. Quote
cberkas Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Not looking good for Germany Czech's 4 Slovak's 1 after 2, Sweden 2 Russia 0 to start the 2nd Quote
Wilbur Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 The Russian goalie made thus far the save of the tournament. Great lateral movement save to rob a Swede on the back door. 2-1 Sweden after two. Quote
cberkas Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Sweden 2 Russia 1 after 2, Czech's 4 Slovak's 1 start of the 3rd. Group A is wide open: Germany is in with a Czech lose Slovak's finishes 3rd with a win, OT/shootout win, or OT/shootout lose (if my math is correct) Czech's finishes 3rd with a win Czech's finishes 4th with OT/shootout win (if my math is correct) or OT/shootout lose USA wins the group a win, OT/shootout win, or OT/shootout lose USA finishes 2nd with a lose Canada wins the group with a win Canada finishes 2nd with a lose, OT/shootout win, or OT/shootout lose Quote
