MafiaMan Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 I guess no one told Colgate they were supposed to play the role of patsie. Fixed your post. Last time Minnesota lost the Mariucci Classic opener, they played the championship game the next afternoon followed by the third place game at 7:00pm. I would bet the same thing happens tomorrow. Yep. Already announced it. Colgate coach said that was a great team that they beat. Gophers didn't lose, though. They pointed out at least 15 times after the game that it was officially a tie, including by Guentzel. McLoed was not able to say that Colgate was playing Ferris State for the championship. Just that they were playing the "early game tomorrow". Quote

cberkas Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Colgate wins the Mariucci Classic 3-0 over Ferris State, but knowing how Minnesota fans are, they win say they won the Mariucci Classic if they win tonight. Good job by Colgate beating the top two teams in the country. Quote

MafiaMan Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Colgate wins the Mariucci Classic 3-0 over Ferris State... But we don't even know who won 3rd place yet! Quote
choyt3 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 how in the hell do you have poor ice with it being 0 degrees, isn't ice supposedc to be frozen? Too cold and it will chip off in large plates. Turned on in time to see "little" Lucia score. Nice helmets for Notre Dame. Looks like their equipment guy went to NAPA and bought some gold spray paint. Notre Dame vs. BC. Woo hoo Quote
choyt3 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 But we don't even know who won 3rd place yet! My cable guide says the game on now is "The Mariucci Classic Championship game in Minneapolis". Remember, they didn't lose last night (officially). Heard it fifteen times. Quote
MafiaMan Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Nice helmets for Notre Dame. Looks like their equipment guy went to NAPA and bought some gold spray paint. They have actual gold flakes in the paint just like the football team...to make the helmets resemble the dome on campus. Another great example of Catholics spending money wisely. Quote

bigskyvikes Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 It was laughable. That work for you? Only the goofs can lose one game and be in the championship game, but a team that didn't lose any games and beat Mn doesn't play in the championship game! Now that's laughable... Quote

MafiaMan Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 The Gophers played in the third place game while Clogate was in the title game. Who cares which game was played first? Most championship games follow the third place contest. It wouldn't surprise me if it came out that Minnesota actually lobbied the WCHA to have the tournament third place game on Saturday night if they were in it instead of Saturday afternoon at the X in order to "boost attendance." The championship game is always supposed to be the "showpiece" game, hence the most desirable time frame for the game... classy move by the goofer athletic dept . Quote
