MafiaMan Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Might be dumb question but does the new wcha still fight for the mcnaughton cup? The custodian of the MacNaughton Cup is Michigan Tech. The cup will stay with the WCHA while the Broadmoor Trophy will come with Colorado College to the NCHC. Quote

MafiaMan Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 It was announced that the Broadmoor is staying with the WCHA. WOW! I didn't know that! Quote
watchmaker49 Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 It was announced that the Broadmoor is staying with the WCHA. This does make sense though. Why would you want the hardware from a different league? Quote

Kinda stinks that there won't be every road trip every year...but you'll have them more frequently than the current WCHA and 10 team WCHA. Quote
MafiaMan Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 This does make sense though. Why would you want the hardware from a different league? Precedent was set when Michigan Tech took the MacNaughton Cup to the CCHA for a few years in the 1980's... Quote
watchmaker49 Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Precedent was set when Michigan Tech took the MacNaughton Cup to the CCHA for a few years in the 1980's... And the rest of the CCHA said huh? Quote
MafiaMan Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 And the rest of the CCHA said huh? Next time you see it, take a good look and you'll find Bowling Green's name on there three times. Quote

yzerman19 Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 ? He's saying Bowling Green won the CCHA title for 3 years while Michigan Tech was a member of the CCHA. The MacNaughton follows Tech. Quote
watchmaker49 Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 He's saying Bowling Green won the CCHA title for 3 years while Michigan Tech was a member of the CCHA. The MacNaughton follows Tech. But before Tech brought it and for the first year or two they went huh. Quote
MafiaMan Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 But before Tech brought it and for the first year or two they went huh. Son, you've lost me... The WCHA commissioned the Broadmoor Trophy AFTER Tech went to the CCHA. When Tech returned, the Broadmoor was given to the conference playoff champion. Quote

When Tech returned, the Broadmoor was given to the conference playoff champion. I think they are talking about the MacNaughton. I am not sure where watchmaker49 is confused. But I think it is because Bowling Green is on the MacNaughton three times because they won it when Tech took it with them to the CCHA. But I am a little confused about all of the confusion. Quote

The only thing confusing to me is why Colorado College is so willing to part with the Broadmoor Trophy...considering its the old Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. It would kinda be like a Westward Ho Trophy going to Hockey East. Quote

I thought I read somewhere that it was because the NCHC wanted to start afresh and not having anything that connected them with the WCHA....but we are bringing Adam with so that may be a moot point. MafiaMan Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 ...NCHC wanted to start afresh and not having anything that connected them with the WCHA.... Yea, nothing says 'moving forward' like trashing your past. Keep the Broadmoor! Quote
Wilbur Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Agreed. I suppose that the new trophy is owned by the WCHA, but the old trophy is CC's. I wonder if its a naming rights thing. CC owns the trophy, the WCHA owns the right to "Broadmoor trophy". I won't pretend to know any type of legality on an issue like this. Quote
MafiaMan Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 The 'old' Broadmoor is pretty sad...my kid has a mites baseball championship trophy from Bloomington Athletic Association bigger than that thing! Quote
