scpa0305 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 great pass by Rocco....terrible turnover 20 seconds later Quote
passit_offthegoalie Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 USAs top line is very good....I was upset Rocco was taken off that line but the have been outstanding ever since Rocco's been better since he got off that line, as well. Chemistry is a funny thing. I think the whole team has gotten better as this tournament has progressed. Quote
passit_offthegoalie Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Goal Canada. but why did the whistle blow before the goal? There goes that whole "intent to blow the whistle" rule. Quote
BigGreyAnt41 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Gaudreau scores off a great stretch pass from Miller! USA leads 5-1 3:48 left in the game and USA is now on a PP Quote
Siouxman Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 5-1 USA. Man, this third period has been a nail-biter, even with the three goal lead. Now a four goal lead with time winding down and it is a little more comfortable. Quote
passit_offthegoalie Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Remember when Canadians freaked out because Seth Jones dared to say that we were the team to beat? 1 Quote

Siouxman Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Player of the period in the third was clearly Gibson in goal. That game could have turned really ugly if Canada had scored another goal. He made a number of big saves. 1 Quote
sprig Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 For some reason the NHL network color guy dislikes Grimaldi as well, wonder what's going on there, as Rocco had a great first period, and if Biggs had been less selfish after Rocco's stick created a Canadian end turnover, Rocco would have his first goal on an easy tap in. Not a problem, we know Rowney will be there when Rocco gets back. Quote
Siouxman Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Lots of negative comments about the Canada team, goalie, coaching, etc. on the TSN website. Several are saying that the worst part is 80% of US citizens won't even know about the game. Well the population of Canada is about 35,000,000 and the population of the US is about 313,000,000. 20% of the US population is 62,000,000 which is almost double Canada's entire population. So more US citizens will know the US won than Canadian citizens will know their team lost. Personally, I am skeptical that even 20% of the US will know about this game, but it really doesn't matter. It is still a big deal in the US to many people. 1 Quote
keikla Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Honestly, I kind of expected a 5-1 score from this game. What I didn't expect, is that the USA would come out on top. Quote
sprig Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Can't believe the US dominated the Canadian team the way they did. Great effort. First line, including Miller, were very good, and props to Gaudreau for the 2 "snipes" in this game. Quote

Ok, for all of you Rocco fans that watch him exclusely during the game; what did you think of his game? So obviously he has a super motor and mad skills....but does he make some pretty dangerous passes? I didn't notice it as much early but he had 2-3 dangerous passes....one which Strome (I believe) took in for a break away. He also had some nice (fancy) passes but I think that's what Housley is talking about....those super dangerous passes where the other team goes directly on a 2-1 or 3-1. Just some food for thought...I really didn't notice it as much during Sioux games. Quote

I've noticed his tendency for the risky play throughout the tournament. It hadn't really shown itself through the college season so far. I have to keep reminding myself that this kid really only has a half a season of hockey under his belt the past year and a half. Still, the "heady" stuff should be there. Quote

Still, the "heady" stuff should be there. When one is as talented as Rocco is and has been able to make those "risky" plays/passes without consequences so far in his career vs. lesser competition, I'm sure he feels he can do the same in this tourney and hasn't made the appropriate adjustments to the increase in overall talent. He hasn't been playing against UAA or MTU the last few days. Quote
Snake Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 That's kind of what I'm saying, Oxbow. I think he'd be playing smarter and better if he had been able to play a full college season last year. Quote

Maybe it doesn't show itself much during the college hockey season (yet) but I definitely noticed those turnovers this morning. They would have looked fancy if he could have pulled them off...I still think he comes back to GF and goes on a tear. Quote

Agree...all this being said I think he blows up on a line with Rowney and Drake and puts up some huge #s in the 2nd half. Quote
Siouxman Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Russia-Sweden 2-2, going to OT. Russia did not have a shot on goal for the first 26 minutes of the game. This has been nothing but end to end hockey since then. Quote
Siouxman Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Still tied after OT, so it goes to a shootout. Sweden wins the shootout 1-0. USA-Sweden for gold. Canada-Russia for Bronze. 2 Quote

siouxweet Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I hope this has been a positive experience for Rocco and he can come back a better player because of this. he sure has taken a lot of criticism. Quote
Snake Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I've read on a few blogs that some think all Russia really cares about is beating Canada in this tourney. Well, they get their shot again! 1 Quote
Jeremy_und2004 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 This is a great week of hockey. USA beats Canada, Sweden beats Russia, and Holy Cross comes to town (and i'll be in town to see it) Quote
