They better start talking to the big sky and get a east west split and put football in there too and start talking fbs for football with the mountain west

if you loose either ndsu or sdsu to fbs i think football will be toast and the summit might end up without an auto bid

leave hockey alone

Fenton is the WOAT. Get out of the Summit while you can. Like many others have said, should have rebranded and brought all sports under one umbrella. What was everyone's favorite Summit League memory?

Half the MVFC teams have no interest (why give a conference they aren't part of for their Olympic sports more control) and the NCHC is profitable and the majority of the teams wouldn't see any benefit. Not sure how you convince the teams against it to change their minds to do something that doesn't benefit them.

DU is making a self-preservation move.
The enrollment cliff is here and it's going to hit small private schools hard.
Go where there are potential students to recruit..

True, but that was the only hope the Summit had to build anything of significance and value, long term.  Non Summit schools and DU would have to have been strong armed into it, and it just wasn't possible with so few on board.  The Summit had chance to do it with the MVFC, for example, but it would have been risky since the Summit FB schools would essentially have to have declared they were moving to the Summit League for FB and then hoped the MVFC schools came on board as affiliates.  Same thing could have happened with hockey, but I'm pretty sure Omaha and UND were the only schools in the entire NCHC that had any interest in Summit hockey, and the risk would have been way to high should everyone else not follow suit, and UST was too early on to have any significance in the college hockey world.

Heather weems seems to be doing a great job of driving the NCHC into the ground though, so perhaps membership would be interested in doing that just to get some more competent conf leadership.  I wouldn't want that to happen unless NDSU and SDSU offered the same with their top programs though (FB).

I totally get why neither Summit FB or Summit Hockey became a thing.  It just sucks that the conference had members with 4 nationally prominant programs and none happened to full under the Summit's umbrella.  With those FB and Hockey programs under the Summit umbrella, it would have done a ton to improve the Summits overall reputation and desireabilty.  Perception is everything.  They could have built some great synergies through media and licensing deals, but instead we have 3 seperate media deals that all are very much flawed in one way or another.

I agree with all of this. But I also see why it would have needed some seismic shift in something outside of anyone's control to make it anywhere near worthwhile for all the programs that aren't Summit/MVFC or Summit/NCHC. It wasn't like anyone who had membership in two (or three) of those entities had the political capital to force the issue, nor could they have threatened to go elsewhere.
