  1. 1. What name should replace "Fighting Sioux" after it's retired?

The Ray Jays aren't around anymore either?

How about the Alexander Comets?

Rhame Pirates?

...

You missed the Knights from both Riverdale and Arthur, and an all-time favorite ...

Hope Hustlers*.

*People worry about "rough riders" having a salacious connotation in today's world. Imagine "hustlers" in today's context.

Love to hear the cheerleaders say "we're the hustlers". ;)

Wow, those really bring up some great Class B memories. I posted mainly Region 8 (now Region 7) teams because that's where I grew up.

Some favorites of mine:

Kenmare Honkers

Grenora Gophers

Crosby-Divide County Maroons

Was Tolna really the Bluejays and Trojans?

How about University of North Dakota Leprechauns? I'm sure Ron His Horse is Thunder would love that one.

There is also the Grand Forks Central Maroon and Grey. The lost nickname between the Redskins and Knights. It was a good filler and some nickname ideas played off of the color like Grey Wolves, but never made the final cut. UND could play off its green color like UND Green XXXX, or UND Fighting XXXX . 11 months and 3 days will be the year of the new nickname.

Mine mostly from District 8 in Region 2.

Yes, Tolna

was the Terriers in the 40s --

they got a new Superintendent in '51 who "didn't want to have a yappy little dog as mascot"; he talked them into changing it to the Bluejays. After he left, they decided they didn't like the new name and changed it to the Trojans in '53.

Is it urban lengend or truth that Northwood changed its name from Trojans to something else because of the underlying reference to condoms?

I doubt it. They are paired with Hatton for some sports now, and I think Griggs County Central for other sports, so if a change was made is was for co-op and new identity purposes.

If you ignore the first 10 letters after the www. in this link, you'll find a good discussion about old small town nicknames in ND. Found it in a google search yesterday.
