Hambone Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 What is the scoop on Mathewson? Was anybody else recruiting him. How good is he? Not much out there for who is recruiting him, but he does appear to be pretty talented as a three year starter (Jr season missed most games due to injury) on defense. Also appears to be a very good basketball player. One thing I found was that he was on the preseason watch list as Illinois defensive player of the year, which is especially interesting considering his injury filled season before. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/high-school/post/_/id/1521/watch-list-defensive-player-of-the-year
The Sicatoka Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 But having a good, solid kicker sure came in handy in Greeley this year.
darell1976 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 But having a good, solid kicker sure came in handy in Greeley this year. And against Sioux Falls.

Hambone Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 http://www.hudl.com/.../luke-mathewson While I trust the coaches to do what's best, based on the film (since it was 95% defensive side) he would probably be more suited for that side of the ball. He has good size for a DE and looked like he has potential there.
The Sicatoka Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 And against Sioux Falls. Thanks. I was trying to suppress that memory.
UND92,96 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 LB Brandon Larson from Bemidji has also been confirmed as a UND commit, probably as a preferred walk on.
UND Fan Posted January 27, 2012 Author Posted January 27, 2012 LB Brandon Larson from Bemidji has also been confirmed as a UND commit, probably as a preferred walk on. I have read where some think Larson can be a better college FB player than Woods. Whether true or not, that is quite a statement (SU fans don't need to debate this) in that Woods is surely highly thought of (athletically, at least).

I see Woods got suspended from basketball for 3 weeks for violation of rules (along with other kids too).

Hambone Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 LB Brandon Larson from Bemidji has also been confirmed as a UND commit, probably as a preferred walk on. Confirmed by? Just curious. Also, would love to see Ben McDonald from Mahtomedi come aboard as a PWO or partial.
UND Fan Posted January 27, 2012 Author Posted January 27, 2012 But having a good, solid kicker sure came in handy in Greeley this year. The Farlee kid (kicker) out of NE that we had shown some interest in is going to Kearney.

Hambone Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Conrad Schwarzkopf and Jake Hanson are great pickups as PWO's. They are a couple very talented ND kids. I see Hanson as a DB. Sounds like Hanson is planning on playing QB, per his HC.
UNDColorado Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Sounds like Hanson is planning on playing QB, per his HC. Let some healthy competition begin!
geaux_sioux Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Is anyone else excited to have another player with a great football name on the team? Conrad Schwarzkopf is an excellant name. Myles Jablonski is another. Stanchik is another. Anyone have any favorite classic football names of former players?

UND Fan Posted January 28, 2012 Author Posted January 28, 2012 Alec Vesper, DT from IL who was to have had an offer from us, has committed to Mankato.
GeauxSioux Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Century’s Schwarzkopf verbally commits to UND When all-state lineman Conrad Schwarzkopf of Century began shopping around for colleges, he knew what he wanted. The University of North Dakota had it all - a FCS football program, an aviation program and good location. So, Schwarzkopf, a 6-foot-2, 285-pound senior, verbally committed to UND on Wednesday. Schwarzkopf said football, first and foremost, has him headed for Grand Forks. "I just like the direction they're going and they play some pretty good teams," he said.
UND Fan Posted January 28, 2012 Author Posted January 28, 2012 Century’s Schwarzkopf verbally commits to UND It is interesting to note that SU was also an option for him and that he will likely play on the DL rather than the OL.
Risky Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 You have got to be kidding. Schwarzkopf selected UND over NDSU. My oh my. 1
