Teeder11 Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Kris Engelstad is continuing her parents legacy of giving in Las Vegas. Click here!
Siouxmama Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 NICE!!! The Engelstads: The gift that keeps on giving. Wonderful people.
Fighting Sioux Fan Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 The Engelstads have always been a generous family. It's just that the negative stuff about them gets dragged out by the anti-sioux nickname crowd to make them look bad...
star2city Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Give $100 Mill to KU and have a Med School named in your honor Interesting: The freshly minted dean of the Kansas University School of Medicine in Wichita is offering members of the public a chance to get their names on the school. It

It's just that the negative stuff about them gets dragged out by the anti-sioux nickname crowd to make them look bad... Like having birthday parties for Hitler and your staff wearing European Tour 39-45 t-shirts? Getting on your knees to keep your gaming license for having these parties. Or sending your goons out to beat up the people trying to organize your employees? Sounds like a real nice guy. Oh wait he gave UND an arena so this does not matter.

buckysieve Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 The Engelstads have always been a generous family. It's just that the negative stuff about them gets dragged out by the anti-sioux nickname crowd to make them look bad... Oh please. Don't blame other people for Ralph's negative reputation. He is the one who hosted a Hitler birthday party, then felt so bad about how he had offended so many people that he hosted another one two years later. It's unbelievable to me that Sioux fans continue to defend this just because he donates money to the school.

Goon Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Can't handle the truth huh? What ever skippy. I would bet any money that Detroit 87 is one of the anit-name crowd that never misses a chance to slam Ralph Englestad or his family. Notice how all of these clowns always bring up the NAZI claim. The man has been dead something like 7 or 8 years and they are still taking shots at him. TROLL ALERT, SKIPPY ALERT
Detroit87 Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 OK troll you can go away now. You obviously do not have a clue about anything and are only here to be an ass. Why do I not have a clue about anything? The truth about your hero sucks huh? How did he keep the Culinary out of his hotel then? Everyother hotel had the union in place. They sat in front of the old Frontier for six years on a picket line but not the Imperial Pit. Someone told the union to leave him alone and since the union was under the control of Chicago and the only people that had this power were Aiuppa, Cerone, and Accardo. I knew about the party back in '86. Ralphie paid a large fine to keep his license. Do not try and say they could not take his license from him like Earl Strinden tried quoting the 1st Admendment since this does not apply to a gaming license. The only other fine that was handed out larger was to the Stardust for letting Chicago skim the joint and they LOST thier gaming license.
Detroit87 Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Can't handle the truth huh? This is the truth so what is the problem?

Big A HG Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 This is the truth so what is the problem? Who cares if it is true? I personally don't give a rat's ass what Ralph's done. The Ralph is awesome, but it's not the be all end all for Sioux hockey. UND did perfectly fine without Ralph Engelstad's money. If the Sioux had to play hockey on the outdoor rink down the road they'd still beat the hell out of the WCHA.

If the Sioux had to play hockey on the outdoor rink down the road they'd still beat the hell out of the WCHA. Ralph has received the only judgement that matters since he has been dead for some time now. I am sick of other teams fans ripping on the guy. Everyone has skeletons. He effed up bigtime with the Nazi themed party, but I think as the years went on, he was a decent man and gave away a TON of his money. None of us really know what he was like as a human being, we can only speculate. I don't think this one incident should define the man. All big money/power guys get where they are due to some unique practices. (especially in Vegas!) I bet if you dug up history on many other bigtime rich "dudes", you would find something you could see as shady. Like Big A HG said, UND hockey is not defined by the Ralph, that is just an accessory to an already historic program. We were bigtime before the Ralph (and the nickname), we will be bigtime as long as there is college hockey.

We actually haven't won a National Championship since it's been open (which some think is because of a curse). Ralph did some questionable things in his lifetime, but who of us hasn't. Ralph also did some very generous things in his life as well. His legacy is what it is, I'm not going to defend nor can anyone change it. It's also not up to me to judge what he did with his life and money. I'm not sure why people keep bringing this up? Do these people think that UND should have declined the money for the arena? Should they also have declined the money he gave for educational purposes? How about the wheelchairs he donated? I could go on and on.
GeauxSioux Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 This was my response to a Bison fan that wanted to flame on Ralph Engelstad.
sioux7>5 Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 This is the truth so what is the problem? OK who gives a crap if he did not want the union in HIS hotel and casino. I would not let the union in my business either. Unions are for lazy people tha raises and a lot of money for not doing a good job.

It's unbelievable to me that Sioux fans continue to defend this just because he donates money to the school. a lot of people in that generation had and still have some very messed up views on equality and human rights. we all know that. you're not telling us anything new. we've all seen gran turino. most of us probably still have that wwii era relative who makes off-color jokes and remarks (and not all of them are even racist, they just talk that way cause it was the norm where they grew up). however, each generation over the last 200 years has/had fewer and fewer of these people who hold ignorant prejudices. so, whether ralph just made a stupid decision because of his detachment with modern society or whether he was a neo-facist asshole, that doesn't incriminate every member of his family for the rest of time. nobody's defending his actions on the nazi-themed party front. however, kris engelstad did a very good thing here, which was shared with the sioux fan community and all you can do is slam her father for something she has no control over. you're only making yourself look petty and foolish by posting your dronings, all of which everybody here has heard a million times. get over it and get over yourself.
krangodance Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 OK who gives a crap if he did not want the union in HIS hotel and casino. I would not let the union in my business either. Unions are for lazy people tha raises and a lot of money for not doing a good job. amen. why in hell did anybody even bring that into the conversation? as if slamming ralph in response to a post about his daughter's generosity isn't lame enough, to use this story as a platform to tout one's views on unions is just beyond petty. i mean, really? somebody gives money to a great cause and somehow that has anything to do with the fact that her father didn't like unions? clearly somebody's just here to stir the pot by any means possible and, since i'm replying, i guess it's working. so...nice work. hey, let's try this, pretend i posted a story about warren buffett donating 50 billion dollars to charity. now let's play a game similar to the kevin bacon game. how few steps does it take a sioux-hater to go from a warren buffett charitable donation story to ralph engelstad blowing hitler.
Goon Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 For good reason. Nothing like kicking dirt on a man after he is gone. Your all class.

Also it is PARTIES in the plural sense. The only way he kept out the union was because the Chicago Outfit let him.
