Shawn-O
Seriously... the last true semi-competant stay at home defenseman the Gophers had was Jake Taylor. EJ was ok, Peltier was ok too. However, they were beatable at times and were continuously asked to do too much defensively because of breakdowns. It's almost like the Gopher defense is three things: Goaltending, forechecking, and offense. They are almost nonexistant in their own zone. Just strange. It's been a Lucia philosophy from the beginning and you really can't argue that much with the results.

All of their defenseman have been of the offensive variety lately, except Bickel had he is in the Minors making YouTube fight videos. You have to have a good mix of both. USA
This is not pointed at any one person, for obvious reasons: Why does every thread always turn into a "Gopher" thread? Is there a secret infatuation with them? I know I don't participate in much discussion on these boards but I generally enjoy reading them, but I always end up throwing-up in my own mouth everytime I have to read about the rodents! It's a thread where people talk about other games from the weekend, so of course the conversation turns to other teams a lot. The Denver thread veered to the topic of St. Cloud just now. So what. There are ten teams in the WCHA. Wisconsin, Minnesota seem to be games most of us mark off on our calender. I actually could care less if UAA was in the league. Minnesota with their in your face television channel FSN and their media get Sioux fans to talk about the Gophers probably even more than any other team. You don't see the DU or C.C. or even the Wisconsin Badgers media and bloggers act the same way is probably why we don't talk about them AS much. So yeah we do talk about the Goofs a lot. Any chance you keep a few frozen gophers (the real rodent) in the freezer right? I would do that too but I am not sure I can toss one on the ice from the upper deck. In a perfect world, they would have an "old throwers" night when old guys like us would be escorted (or wheeled) down to the glass during the second period to chuck a dead gopher onto the ice. They could hand out slightly thawed dead gophers at the door for those who prefer not to freeze their own.

You'll have to take your chances from the upper deck for a few more years. If this were a Badger event, the cutoff would have to be around 36 . . . On FSN, you can clearly see something landing on the ice as the horn sounds, then the camera angle quickly changed...just wondering.

keikla
I'd be surprised to see anyone other than Marto for WCHA defensive player of the week. 3 goals on a weekend would be awesome for a forward, yet alone a defensemen!

Marto for DPOTW, Eidsness for ROTW, and maybe Frattin as a "honorable mention" for OPOTW. Lasch had a big weekend for SCSU (despite getting swept). I think defensively giving up only three goals on the weekend rocks as well. But I think Marto is the man.

AZSIOUX
I'm much more interested in team success than individual awards.......... as im sure everyone else is but they do give awards out every week and the sioux are 9-1-2 in their last 2 which has resulted in awards indivudually along with the teams success

On FSN, you can clearly see something landing on the ice as the horn sounds, then the camera angle quickly changed...just wondering. I didn't see that one but did see one hit the ice during the Jones/Lucia situation during the long delay as the refs tried to sort things out. As the crowd had been warned at that point I was surprised a penalty was not called, but I think the officials had more important business at hand. If I recall Eidsness kind of shepharded it toward the Sioux bench.
