Saw a quote recently by a major school AD that went something like: "If your head coach hasn't had inquiries from other schools by his 4th or 5th year, he probably needs to be gone." Jones probably hasn't had offers from other DI schools, has he?

Cincy has a lock on the 11th spot. The question is who for a 12th. Oklahoma and it's allies want Houston. Texas despises Houston and doesn't want it to gain more power in the state. A&M and the SEC have seen big ratings and recruiting gains in Houston metro, and that not going down well with most Big12 schools. Texas may try to get a Notre Dame option with the ACC, when the Big 12 contract expires, so they might not be committed fully. Kansas and Oklahoma to the Big 10 is also a possibilty. Memphis has some suport, as that would be an offensive move against the SEC. Tn, Miss, Miss St, Ark, and even Alabama recruit Memphis heavily. UCF and Colo St could be dark horse candidates for the 12th spot. BYU has pissed off most Big12 Presidents by their antics of holier than thou. Boise St has academic concerns that haven't been addressed yet. UCDavis seriously would be looked more favorably upon than BYU or Boise.

Beating the Gophers is much more important to the school than beating Sam Houston.

Have missed your postings here for a couple years. Welcome back Coach Dags!

Looks like three 5-7 teams made bowls: Minnesota plays Central Michigan in the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit Nebraska plays UCLA in the Foster Farms Bowl in Santa Clara San Jose St plaus Georgia St in the Cure Bowl in Orlando Both Appalachian St and Georgia Southern will plas in bowl games in the first year they are eligible.

Is Canada devoid of talent this year? What's the deal?

Montana won a first round game against SDSU. Yesterday was 2nd round games.
-
San Diego beat NAU 3-0, so not a good display by the Big Sky in NCAA tournament play.
-
Why not take them? Notre Dame would probably join if the conference was national in scope. The conference tournament could be in Vegas, Phoenix, Target Center, and Chicago. Much more bucks with those schools.

Orange or yellow are standard alertness colors for safety. If someone runs into a steel support, that could be serious. Orange paint warns that an encounter is close.

Bemidji and the Alaska schools have already been dropped from major and mid-major schools conferences. They can compete on ice, but not with the pocketbook. If UNLV or ASU wanted a conference home for a few years, could see the WCHA taking them in a western division of the Midwest schools can limit travel to Alaska to once a season. But UNLV or ASU would only be there a season or two until they get upperclassmen.
-
Would think UNLV and Ariz St are locks for the NCHC if UNLV pulls the trigger. The Big Ten will not take UNLV. They have less of a shot than UND. Ariz St would love a regional rival.

Bubb would never go to Siu if it meant leaving the HC here. It's his dream job.

So Bresciani has a goal to make NDSU AAU ....
SiouxVolley replied to SiouxVolley's topic in Community
The whole AAU thing becomes even more of a farce and ruse with the closing of the nanocenter. Bresciani was just attempting to make political cover for his decisions and his school's incompetence, as nanotechnology was one of the few ways NDSU could make a name for itself in the university research world. -
Why is Lennon wanted as an AD anyway? Maybe an representative to the Foundation, but he doesn't have financial or negotiating skills necessary for DI. Roger didn't either and that is a big part of why UND had such a bad transition when they had to get rid of Buning.

So, Byron Dorgan wants some accountability from Bresciani about closing their nanocenter, as in why NDSU didn't start an endowment like UND did for aerospace. Lot of comments how Bresciani is tone deaf and shouldn't have his contract renewed this year, especially from legislators. Get your popcorn ready. -
The NCAA has signaled it will allow 5-7 FBS teams to go to bowls if they have high APRs. Rice, Illinois, Nebraska, San Jose St, and Minnesota will likely get passes. FCS teams don't have enough FBS wins and the thought of an FCS team playing in their bowls gives the bowl's the willys, as they don't want to be labeled minor league.

Kelley won't rock the boat before he leaves. He got a new nickname and that was seemingly his only objective. Schafer is capable of making executive decisions. Resurrect this thread in March. Until then it is a waste of bandwidth.

Northern Arizona has what amounts to a #8 regional seed, so the Big Sky must be getting some respect in women's VB. Idaho State probably wasn't too far from an at large bid. USC, Texas, Minnesota, and Nebraska were the four #1 seeds.

Well said. Jones seemed to throw the players under the bus, when he doesn't coach the fundamentals.
-
Jones said it was all on the players, as they practiced against the scout team running a UNI offense.

If a bowl doesn't fulfill it's contractual commitments with TV, it will be broke and dropped from the bowl ranks. It's a high stakes game that needs more teams. The P5 schools that end up 5-7 don't want the low ends bowls, so I can see Minnesota or Texas turning them down. An up and coming team on the other hand will want a bowl. This could be a way that Faison puts a stamp on the program that other regional FCS teams can't match.
-
Likely. BUT if an FCS team offered a good $ package, a low level bowl could bite. Bowls are non profits that have charities. If a school has a good story and fan base, it could be part of the tv story. It can work in select cases. Danny Freund tweeted about bowls this morning. Faison must be talking. I ddon't see P5 schoops accepting some of the low level bowl bids. The bowls will go down a list until someone accepts. The Aloha Bowl cou,d be another that has a hard time filling. Charter flights to Hawaii are expensive.
-
Most bowls require teams to purchase an allotment of tickets with the school having to pay regardless if they sell them. Tickets start at $50, so there are not cheap. It's probably more expensive as travel isn't covered by the NCAA like in FCS playoffs. The bowls pay a minimum of $500k, as much of that is from tv and advertising.
-
A lot of P5 teams seem to be on the cusp of six wins, but they normally don't relish the thought of playing in a low level bowl reserved for Sun Belt, CUSA, or MAC teams. The NCAA would have to allow 5-7 teams, which is quite likely, or FCS teams that have six or more victories, which is more remote. If a P5 team is matched up with an FCS team, could see a lot of declined bids. UND vs Minnesota would be cool.
