  1. Mike Ilitch, owner of the Detroit Red Wings, is donating at least $40 million for a new campus of Wayne St to be located in the arena district which Ilitich is building. Wayne St's new digs will house the Mike Ilitch School of Business for Wayne St, which has 4500 students. Ilitch is redeveloping more than 250 blocks as part of his plan for a new 20k arena, making a new destination for entertainment, business, education, and living spaces. If there's a practice arena with a few thousand seats, Wayne St could easily resurrect hockey, as Wayne St never had a permanent rink.
  2. How did UND look against Mayville? From the score, it wasn't a wipeout.
  3. Haven't they suffered enough????
  4. So North Dakota is the Fighting Hawk state? Never knew that. Fighting Hawks might be befitting a middle school, high school, a vo-tech or a Southeast Central Michigan or Ohio school of higher learning, but why in the hell would anybody want it for the flagship school of a state that doesn't have it as a nickname? Totally illogical.
  5. Since S and O have Spanish sounding names, how about the Conquistadors?
  6. Did anyone see Miami's 8 laterals with no time to beat Duke on the last play.
  7. More than you hear about Minnesota being the Gopher state ... or Wisconsin being the Badger state ... or Iowa being the Hawkeye state ... or Ohio being the Buckeye state. If those names had not been adopted as nickname of their flagship schools, no one would know those state names. Without looking, what is Montana or Idaho's state nickname? Because they are not amenable for sports teams, they are not widely publicized.
  8. Seattle Redhawks, ST Joseph Hawks, Monmouth Hawks, Lehigh Mountain Hawks, Dickinson Blue Hawks, UMASS Lowell Riverhawks, UNC Wilmington Seahawks, Wagner Seahawks, Tenn-Martin Skyhawks, Indiana (Pa) Crimson Hawks, just to name e a few more. You would think this is a new name for a high school or middle school, not the flagship institution for the state.
  9. And there will be a lot in North Dakota. Why isnt there a big push by North Dakota's to drop that nickname, if it's so bad/sad, as you say?
  10. The Red River High School girls have been protesting the nickname for years, or did I make that up?
  11. Think the NCAA was a lost cause when they got swept by NAU and Idaho St. Both of those tea s are top 50 caliber squads that the rest of the Big Sky can't hold a candle to. Sac St is probablying the third best team in the league, which are all in the south. Learn from the year, recrust as needed, and make adjustments. Big Sky volleyball isn't a walk in the park anymore, as shown by Sac St, which has made major improvements.
  12. Agreed with some of this, but look at Louisville. Formerly, it was a basketball only school. But their AD Tom Jurich made all their programs into powers: football, volleyball, baseball, softball etc with the facilities to match. Louisville has made the most from basketball gates for years, but Jurich transformed it into one of the most balanced overall programs around, financed largely by mbball. They went from the Metro to the ACC in under 20 years. W Kentucky is another success story that took mbball and made an all around program, including an FCS to FBS transition. Why is SDSU suddenly successful at football? The fan base only cares about Hobo Days, not the football result. How did NDSU get good in mbball? They didn't do anything forever in that sport, but they have made like three dances since moving up. Dont think Faison will be the to lead us on to glory. Seems more satisfied with sucking up to Kelley pretending all is fine than making hard decisions.
  13. Evers port feed isn't working. No video but there is sound.
  14. Generally, wealthier familes live in bigger, newer homes. This is true especially in the Cities, where poor neighborhoods have poor teams, with an exception being possibly basketball. Wealthier families send their kids to camps and get special coaching. Increasingly, the wealthier kids have more access to indoor facilities. Look at Grand Forks, where ICON arena and the Choice wellness center are located, plunked right where there wealthiest families have easiest access to them at their backdoor.
  15. Sundogger was always the first choice of Twamley/the Herald. Fighting Hawks is a clear 2nd. Kelley seems to have a problem with understanding how voting works. It's not horseshoes.
  16. Yeah, Kelley seems to like Dickinson State's example, Blue Hawks.
  17. So realize that we'do be as unique as Dickinson St with F Hawks and B Hawks.
  18. Half page sounds more feasible in the time frame. But it's not in color? Maybe just inform the students how Hawks is not unique and Hawks are a default nickname for removed Indian ones.
  19. Maybe there will accept it for premium pricing. Since most votes will be cast next Monday, a Monday insert is too late.
  20. A 8.5 x 11 insert in $65 / 1000 inserts. A run is 3500 papers. That would be about $240, plus the cost of the insertss. Could swing it if someone prepares the insert. Have all three nicknames and a possible logo for each in color. It's not so much advocating for RR, but more for information. The insert could be double sided with more RR information on the back. Have a list of all college Hawk nicknames to show it isn't unique. Also could have a list of Indian names that were changed to birds.
  21. How much does a half page ad in color cost for the Dakota Student?
  22. It's small, but not informed. That's all that was said but you added more.
  23. So KElley changes the rules in midstream. We all knew that. The sooner he is gone, the better UND will be.
  24. I would chip in, definitely. Maybe take an ad out in the Dakota Student explaining why Roughriders represents the state. If we were there Fighting Hawks, that would take years of education to know where we were from.
  25. I'm sure you realize that a Gallop poll is too. But it's still accurate +/- 3%. What missing is that Siouxsports is not representative of all voters, just the informed ones.
