Two positives for me: 1. There was no next home game on the line, so for all that UND ended up farting away, it didn't lose that. 2. Attendance...Grand Forks showed up in a big way, and there was undeniably a great vibe in there.
-
Great point, and one I had almost completely forgotten. I, too, was scratching my head over the reverse, but it still doesn't hold a candle to the asinine decision to bring pressure on the punt.
-
I disagree. 24-7 with the ball, and 24-14 are completely different beasts.
-
And rightfully so. If someone on here, anyone, can put forth a defensible position as to why the pressure was put on for that play, I will listen to just about anything. I say it was unforgivable, and indefensible, but I'm open to persuasion.
-
No, it's on the coach who called the pressure.
-
Win or lose, that play...
-
Had the ball at midfield on a fair catch; pressure wasn't even needed. Should cost somebody a job if UND loses.

LOL. At least these folks were indoors in a nice, warm lobby...they get points for being the smartest of the "water protector" lot. Probably not saying much, but still. http://www.inforum.com/news/4171153-dapl-protest-wells-fargo-building-ends-company-agrees-meet-tribe

But...but...this is Brewster-freaking-Baker we're talking about.

Grand Forks is still not stepping up on the concert attendance front. Just received an e-mail from Ticketmaster that Kenny Rogers tickets are being offered buy one, get one free (never a good sign), as are tickets for Cirque de Soleil or something like that. C'mon folks, The Gambler is a LIVING LEGEND! Maybe they should have him play halftime Saturday instead.

More cowbell.

Not quite so douche-y. As hard as it may be for some to accept, a "down" start to the year for men's hockey should actually be a good thing for football, especially if the latter makes any kind of run. Nobody ever said that sports fan psychology is anything close to normal.
-
Agreed. Live and learn, but since season ticket holders have proven they are not all deserving of such generous consideration, the window to claim seats should be shortened to 24 hours or less going forward, and BEFORE the general on-sale. I'm still struggling to understand how season ticket holders (i.e., arguably the most loyal and passionate fan base) of a program that hasn't sniffed the postseason in a long time can drop the ball in such large numbers, especially with men's hockey on the road. Are that many people traveling to NYC?

This guy's writing is terrible (does he even have a thesis?) and he's all over the place, but there's a certain, unlikable "Get off my lawn" tone throughout his entire rant. I can't separate the accusations from the observations, nor can I shake the notion that he's flat-out attacking people who (gasp!) don't share each and every one of his views on parenting. I am surprised that participation in GF's in-house hockey program is so low, but it appears that participation in travel is UP, and I don't see how that could ever be a bad thing. Supply and demand at work. And a large infusion of cash and energy into the local association makes for a healthy association. Cost need not be a barrier; financial aid is available and all efforts should be made to raise funds for that very purpose. For any parents who are on the fence, I will say only this: if you and your child can experience, just once, the Squirt International in Fargo, you will understand what it's all about.

I'm in favor of letting teams decide their own fate vis-a-vis nicknames and logos. But I gotta say, after watching Game 2 of the WS, if they can also get rid of that drum as a package deal, I'm fully in support of the anti-nicknamers.

Not a Grand Forks eatery, but reported in the Grand Forks Herald. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/4144564-sd-restaurant-owners-attempt-move-drug-charges Perhaps the strangest write-up for a small business/restaurant I've ever read. Can you imagine Marilyn Hagerty's review?

Hak was driving an American pick-up truck (NJ plates!) when I saw him on Columbia this summer, FWIW.

What do you think of the logo now??

Both single-sport examples dressed in sport-specific gear and toting very specific equipment. How does this strategy translate to a college environment? -

A quick test for everyone disappointed with today's news. Complete this sentence: If UND had cut the sports I wanted them to, and if those dollars had been redirected to my sport(s) of choice, but those sport(s) still did not see an increase in success or competitiveness after five years, I would be _____ than I am right now. (HINT: the answer is no better off.)- 2,150 replies

"Unattainable" is in the eye of the beholder, and for those of us who were not at the table, it's a bit of a reach to draw that conclusion. We're talking about professors and students, not economists and soothsayers. Optimistic, perhaps, but certainly not inept.- 2,150 replies

Inept? Were they not asked to evaluate and report? Why is it so hard to believe that reasonable minded persons could conclude, upon a fair evaluation, that cutting sports was simply not in UND's best interests? How are any of us to sit in judgment upon the IAC? If a jury returns a verdict you don't like, do you immediately blame the jurors? What about the prosecution, and the defense, and the judge, and the law? The SiouxSports.com blood lust is nothing short of shameful. Few among us could ever wield a knife against our peers so arbitrarily and with such ruthlessness. Professors and students? Come on. Go ahead and give Kennedy his hatchet and your blessing, but unless you were at the table, and at the very least until the members speak publicly, it's pointless to pile on the committee.- 2,150 replies

Hockey fans aren't going anywhere, and football is on a tremendous upward trajectory performance-wise. I think the market can absorb an increase (maybe not 25%, but that's academic).- 2,150 replies
