  1. In fairness, the FF is not exactly priced at 'good old fashioned, blue collar town, midwestern value, local fan friendly, niche sport, easy access, buy at the 11th hour and pick up and go' levels...more like, 'national prestige championship event where you want to be seen even if you don't care that much about college hockey' levels. (Hosting it in far-off places like Tampa is an extra slap in the face to northern, mom-and-pop hockey fans of limited means.) I don't know much about Duluth's fan base, but it's a lot of money for 3 games, especially when you figure in last-minute travel: For comparison, UMD's pricing structure:
  2. Scary video. If it turns out he's okay, with the way he went down, I can see some interesting and quirky GIFs coming out of this.
  3. Just like I flew in from Yugoslavia on TWA today, rented an Oldsmobile at the airport, went shopping at Venture, and bought some New Coke to drink while watching XFL games on my GoldStar television.
  4. I didn't want to needlessly bump them so as to sully their historic significance, but I do recommend that people peruse some of the oldest threads in the Women's Hockey forum for some interesting perspective.
  5. Donned hoodies and facemasks to make mischief, yet they do it in broad daylight and invite a newspaper photographer along for kicks? Civil disobedience has changed. Good thing they asked to remain anonymous.
  6. Looks like a couple of WH players are not going to get their UND Housing linen deposit back.
  7. Athletics has been under a microscope for a long time. Take away the months of speculation, and lucky guesses, by people mostly not in the know. You still have the unavoidable leaks. Sure, some people may have learned about certain developments unofficially via Twitter (it's 2017), but the University called a team meeting and its first official action BEFORE the first public statement was to tell the players in person. What would you have had the University do differently? There are no "secrets" in a public institution; that's fantasyland BS. And if there were, people would be crying foul because everything was done in the dark by a few at the top.
  8. The as-yet untold story. These are students who live in Grand Forks, many of whom pay tuition and fees, all of whom enroll in courses, participate in student orgs, go home and tell fun stories, buy supplies, pay rent, eat food, buy gas, see movies, buy clothing (including officially licensed Fighting Hawks merchandise)... In a declining-enrollment era, UND is chasing away student-athletes, who are frequently the most desired students who go about things the right way.
  9. So this happened. There's a nice little photo-essay on ESPN.com about the journey of the FF floor from a Michigan forest all the way to Glendale, and poor dude on the right's underwear is showing.
  10. Not really much different than those human shield and collateral damage cases overseas. How many times after a 'precision airstrike' on a high-confidence target do you see footage of a destroyed 'children's hospital'? Either somebody's aim was way off, or the scene was rigged by the bad guys.
  11. Let's not forget these green-bleeders who are likely hurting tonight. (I had no idea how big swimming and diving teams were.)
  12. Counterpoint: it's not customary to beat up on the deceased at a funeral. Rubbing salt in the wound with horrifying figures - however objective - would have been bad form.
  13. Bitches better have my money.
  14. Couldn't even be bothered to capitalize it. So disrespectful.
  15. Good God, man, clear your inboxes! Outlook = 4503. Gmail = 22,566???
  16. Hair on fire hockey. Probably shouldn't count for stats purposes, even though I suppose a 3x3 scenario could happen in regulation. It's not fully growing on me...yet.
  17. Let that loop with the audio...it's intoxicating.
  18. Suddenly I realize how clean and technically proficient last night's game was.
  19. Do nitro pills come in green?
  20. More information from USA Hockey. http://www.usahockey.com/news_article/show/771106?referrer_id=752796 Demanding paid guest travel, paid nanny/child care, and business class airfare is going to turn a lot of people off. Not helping the cause, IMHO.
  21. Playing Denver in the conference semis is an entirely different animal than a national at-large team (basically at home) in the NCAA regionals, especially with some of the bracket projections I've seen. I'd give UND a much greater chance of winning at least one in Fargo, even though I haven't written them off tonight. I think your focus on recruiting is misplaced entirely. UND is UND, and guys will want to play here regardless of what happens in the next 10 days.
  22. It's not even 'old news' anymore to the rest of the world. The only people keeping the flame burning are local die-hards.
