President Kennedy Message on Athletics
NoiseInsideMyHead replied to fightingsioux4life's topic in Other Sports
http://www.grandforksherald.com/node/4096709 Okay. Now that the Herald staff are finished with their editorial circle jerk, and Kennedy is back in town, when can we expect that insightful, Pulitzer-worthy, fully illuminating, 10,000 word article that Tom Miller just had to write as soon as humanly possible on the subject? You know, the article that was going to do such a better job of explaining the original e-mail? Yeah, that e-mail, the one that itself so thoughtlessly (yet thoroughly) explained that a committee (who) at UND (where) would be reviewing athletics (what) between now and December (when) in light of a budget shortfall (why). Woodward, Bernstein, and I can hardly wait.- 2,150 replies

President Kennedy Message on Athletics
NoiseInsideMyHead replied to fightingsioux4life's topic in Other Sports
I'll bite. Have you seen the schedule for the bus tour? It's pretty tight. He's on the bus, socializing with faculty and spouses. He's off the bus, socializing with community leaders and alumni. It's a carefully planned program, not a leisure trip. Also, this wasn't a press release, it was an internal e-mail. While one could anticipate it leaking, it wasn't a deliberate external communication. Any media questions can (and should) be carefully formulated and asked at an appropriate time after he returns. Cell service in western ND is probably not as robust as you imagine. What Miller did was amateur and bush-league. In other words, Rob Portly. Even if the questions are legitimate, that's not the way to treat a brand new executive. Does anything about getting more flies with honey than with vinegar ring a bell with you? The relationship between the local media and Kennedy is a delicate and important one...a shaky foundation is stupid on all fronts. As much as I loathe much of the incessant rambling of the Herald's more 'senior' writers and columnists, Tom would be well suited to take a seat on their knees. There's nothing urgent about the e-mail. A committee has been tasked (huge surprise there) but its work will likely take until the end of the calendar year. Give the guy a break...these ND president jobs are looking more toxic by the minute. Professional kryptonite, if you will, and the quality of the applicant pools will soon reflect that, if it hasn't already.- 2,150 replies

http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/4095816-und-president-no-show-first-big-moment Swing and a miss for Tom Miller, pinch-hitting for (masquerading poorly as) Rob Port. His faux indignation here is transparent, and Kennedy in no way deserves this level of ire. Chill out, Tom.- 2,150 replies

Can (should) this thread be locked with instructions to see the newer one under UND/Other Sports?
-
I guess we won't be seeing you here...
-
Why the attitude? Nobody said "boo" when GCU played UND in baseball.
-
I'm just tired of manufactured crises. Is it too much to ask for a dead hooker and a mountain of coke before we call for someone's head?

Pepperjax would have made a fine addition. Hope they're still interested. Until then, Sioux Falls is only 4 hours away.

Hey, at least they're trying. When life gives you a lemon, you make lemoney...err, lemonade. Still, had Roughriders won out, there could have been "Roughrider and put her away wet" shirts.

Can't speak for folks heading east, but westbound drivers are just trying to vent the rancid Simplot vapor out of their cars.

Official SiouxSports.com Logo Reaction Thread and Poll
NoiseInsideMyHead replied to NoiseInsideMyHead's topic in UND Nickname
Maybe all of the haters can finally get off UND's back now. Apparently this naming thing isn't as easy as everybody seems to think. -
I looked back several years and did not see a one-place-fits-all thread for driving, traffic, construction, etc., so have at it, boys and girls! Saw this at the Herald's website just now, http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/4092767-police-beefing-traffic-enforcement-gateway-drive There are only a couple of possibilities here: (1) people are scofflaws, or (2) the posted speed limits are too low. Don't know about you, but I vote (2). Gateway/Hwy 2 is, in addition to being a designated U.S. highway, a divided, limited access arterial road with smooth pavement, a level surface, wide shoulders, raised median, and good visibility. In other words, it's good for 45-50 mph, easy. I always understood that traffic data tending to show a disproportionate amount of speeding was used to evaluate speed limits and (gasp) sometimes even raise them to conform with reality. Yet, the GFPD's knee-jerk response here is to "beef up traffic enforcement on Gateway Drive." I'm shaking my head at this one. Revenue over common sense? Thoughts?

Highway underpasses have doors now?

Living in denial, I see. To what end? To prove a point? To show that men's hockey has bigger pucks, err, balls? I'm starting to see real similarities between the Bernie Sanders crowd and the Sioux forever people. Stop fighting a foolish fight and join the team; the ongoing tantrums are an embarrassment.

Not by choice. Kids are, by definition, not drawn to nostalgia. Anybody here ever tried introducing their children to the cultural icons (sports, film, music, TV, etc.) of the past? (And I mean the really, really good stuff that you SWEAR is so much better than today's crap.) It is NOT an easy sell. The only kids wearing this stuff in 10-20 years will be the descendants of hardcore faithful and neo-hipster-younglings trying to be ironic. Most kids, of course, will have zero appreciation for it, other than trying to make mom and dad happy. Before long, "Sioux" will be a memory...old fuzzy pictures on the walls and something the old folks like to talk about when hockey is on, but with little to no relevance to future generations. Basically, "Flickertails." Or the Brooklyn Dodgers. UND will continue to have its legion fans, but we should all hope that the new ones aren't artificially manufactured and brainwashed to believe that it's Sioux or nothing. Let them learn and love and learn to love UND on their own terms, and wear whatever they want.

Karl's is closing. Not a huge surprise...Best Buy struggles in that sector, and they're the big dog. More retail vacancy along 32nd is both a concern and an opportunity. Natural Grocers has to carry it's own weight, for sure.

NDUS Budget Cuts (changed name to be system-wide)

I think it will work something like this... -
In fairness to those following along, I think you need to qualify that statement by telling us the extent to which, if any, this site relies on any form of official or credentialed content whatsoever. Even if the proprietor of the site were credentialed and desired to remain so, the forums -- where the "play-by-play" accounts appear -- could easily be split off as a separate 'outlet' and not jeopardize the owner's status.
