  1. Speaking of retail and commercial real estate, I noticed a wooden sign at 32nd/Columbia (RIP Pepperjax) advertising a 30k sq ft "outlot" space coming available in (I think) early 2018...only thing I can think of in that area would be PetSmart...is something going on there?
  2. The "old mall" is a bit of an enigma and a survivor. Parking lot is crap and nobody wants to develop the outlots (Ponderosa, anyone?), yet Poppler's recently invested $$$, Play it Again downsized but alive, new kids play area going in...the next "shoe" to ultimately drop for Grand Forks retail will be Sears/Kmart. I can't see the parent corp. keeping both open, even in the medium term; one will almost certainly be gone. In fact, every time a list of store closings for either chain is published, I scan it as if fully expecting to see GF on this list.
  3. You may want to review the Forum Guidelines:
  4. Jake Brandt: "Happy coaches; Sioux sweep." When your color guy wears colored glasses...
  5. That's the motto of a porn addict who has to enter a case-sensitive password.
  6. Going to be lots of holes in the crowd tonight...has anybody seen the number of tix popping up on that thread? Why the exodus of UND fans? Does nobody appreciate Canisius or what?
  7. Kelley's very Kennedy-esque statement re: Gamma Phi Beta It was the national chapter and not UND that imposed the training.
  8. It was not Kelley who "forced" anything. http://www.grandforksherald.com/content/und-sorority-trouble-pro-nickname-banner-during-time-out-week-parent-organization-apologizes
  9. To which even remotely analogous situation are you referring? Kelley and Kennedy both did their fair share of investigating and condemning, but I certainly don't recall any students being punished where First Amendment rights were implicated.
  10. WTF planet is Peter Johnson living on? Take away Ray Richards and Grand Forks has one public 9-hole, one public 18-hole with fees bordering on semi-private, and a private 18-hole country club. What an ignorant statement.
  11. Nice. Just don't wear them around baseball players. Or athletes from any other sport that might get the axe. Or Music Therapy majors. Frivolous expenditures don't play well in times of crisis.
  12. Now THAT is a link.
  13. Must be willing to settle for some s#!tty seats. (Welcome to the neighborhood!)
  14. Meh...needs context. Is this another tired, genericized, cliche criticism of higher ed, or does he have a legitimate point to make? If it's residual nickname butthurt, well, that is self-explanatory.
  15. This was never about 'every field, court, or surface.' Nobody expected changes overnight, especially where costs and/or third-party ownership created high hurdles. This was about a particular surface that was necessarily being completely manufactured from scratch in September, >2 months after the logo was released.
  16. UND needs revenue from sales of game programs to keep the lights on.
  17. A grandmother that uses "cuz"? Oh, my. I would love to have some user demographics for these boards. I suspect that grandmothers are few and far between.
  18. You have no suggestions because there is nothing to suggest. This isn't "Minority Report." There are no precogs to look into the future, and there is no Pre-Crime Bureau. People either have a criminal history that is detectable in a background search or they don't. We're talking about a sworn police officer, a licensed physician, and now a licensed pilot. That's a lot of professional/governmental oversight. One could theoretically try to block certain types of websites or file downloads from certain employees, but (1) that won't work with cops or faculty, and (2) web filters are only so good and cyber-criminals are always a step or two ahead. With all of the porn busts on the news all the freaking time, you'd have to be an idiot or blinded by sickness to think that you can get away with this stuff, especially doing it at work, on a state-owned computer. Maybe these people are sick, are crying for help, or want to get caught?
  19. Wonder how long those stencils took to arrive.
  20. Props to WH. As I said earlier, where there's a will, there's a way. Everything else is just an excuse.
  21. Planned location is chicken-sandwiched between TX Roadhouse and Sakura (formerly, Space Aliens) on 32nd. http://www.grandforksgov.com/home/showdocument?id=13707
  22. Nobody has suggested North Korean-like assimilation. Each program obviously can only control what it can control, and aesthetics do matter. Football had opportunities with uniforms, not with turf. Cool, we get that. Hockey was (allegedly) committed to uniforms, which is fine, but clearly had an opportunity with center ice. For a high profile sport to thumb its nose at the logo entirely is a problem, masked only by the fact that many fans of said program are also anti-logo and thus oblivious to what appears to be manipulation of UND by certain parties or at the very least a lack of firm leadership by the administration. For the record, mixed veggies are the better way to go. And cauliflower can easily disappear into a napkin when mom isn't looking.
  23. But this is about looking forward, not back. UND turned a critical page when it phased out Fighting Sioux, turned another when it selected Fighting Hawks, and opened a whole damn new book on the subject when it adopted the current logo. To compare or benchmark behaviors from the past does not seem particularly helpful. In fact, the best (only?) way to avoid this entire team/support/loyalty argument 2.0 in 20 years is to get everyone on track now.
  24. Yet, the new logo was on helmets within weeks of its release. Where there is a will, there is a way.
  25. Good scoop. Not specific to a single location, but from the Secretary of State:
