Interesting development. Lot may be a bit small for hockey (roughly 265ft x 275ft), but it could potentially work. Guessing they are looking at a basketball facility though.

Double headers are literally the only way I can get my buddies up to UND for a FB game. And I'm guessing that's what get's many out of towners up there for games as well. @UND-FB-FAN you sound just as bad as hockey-only fans. The school, and we as fans, need to work on developing a better synergy between FB and Hockey. Would a noon kick really that big of a deal when the game is going to be sold out anyway?

Interestingly, it seems the Manitoba Bison picked up a former 4* Florida Gator D Lineman. Was at Northern Colorado last year. Cousins with one of the coaches, apparently. https://gobisons.ca/news/2023/1/17/football-bisons-football-announce-commitment-of-program-changing-linemen-lamar-goods-sean-rowe.aspx

Im curious how many of you also wanted to move on from Hakstol?

Great news given that we will be bringing a lot more transfers from now on, and many of which will only have a year or two.

Not a good look for the Summit League. WIU ever actually going to join the OVC? Would love to trade them for Lindenwood or Mankato.

Didnt see a 2023 thread yet, but I saw that someone posted Montana's 2023 spring game on youtube

Agree, Kansas City would be great. I'm just saying I didn't bring them up!
-
If we are looking at a pipe dream conference, you gotta include Georgia and Liberty, with High Point situated between. Add Tenn State, UAH, and Lindenwood, and you have a decent geographic footprint!

There were two arena projects in Kansas City that were in the 3-5K seat range. I believe both got scaled way back after covid, but I think someone may have reached out to UMKC to see if they were interested in starting a team and playing at either of those rinks. Only think that really makes sense to me because I think the article you were referring to classified UMKC starting hockey as just barely beyond a rumor. I think both of the plans below got scaled back far enough that they now look more like a typical high school arena or they aren't even being built. For the record, I'm completely guess that this is where the rumor of UMKC potentially adding hockey came from. https://arenadigest.com/2019/01/30/overland-park-olathe-arena-proposals-pitched/

Remember when Fenton took over the NCHC? The league was a joke at that point.

Also, why limit it to Grand Forks? Any new restaurants in Bismarck, Williston, etc? We are the university of North Dakota, no? Edit: I get where you're coming from - just sounds like excuses for why they will never start. Leaders are "no" people.

If there is a bar that opens up on one of UND's P3 properties, what are the odds that UND is the recipient to gaming activities. Thinking a place like Great Shots or Top Golf if it gets built at Ray Richards.

A sports bar at the REA would be perfect for this. Still baffles me that UND Athletics or the Champions Club isn't the recipient for gambling at Playmakers, which is the official pre and post game gathering site for UND Athletics. "Playmaker’s All American Lounge is a “boutique casino” where players try their luck at blackjack and games of chance. The lounge features, and pays tribute to, the All Americans from the University of North Dakota. Playmaker’s All American Lounge is the official pre and post game gathering site for UND Athletics. Meet friends at Playmaker’s All American Lounge and relax with drinks and snacks as you watch the big game."

I don't think his comment was really about about coach speak and I think you're putting words in his mouth. Chaves being MIA, questionable standards, and a lack of innovation within the athletic department just makes "coach speak" particularly annoying, especially when "the little things" and "effort" aren't the root problem. That's what I think the point was at least.

It truly feels like the champions club has zero employees. I bitch about things because it appears that some of the decision makers (for fundraising/marketing) either don't try or are incompetent. If that offends anyone, where are the results? Seems like the fundraising strategy hasn't changed or improved at all in the last 15 years... Just coasting off mandatory CC fees from high season ticket demand. So many missed opportunities when it comes to marketing and fundraising.

This link takes you to the part in the pod where he talks about it. Doesn't sound like the addition for extra practice space is happening anytime soon. https://www.iheart.com/podcast/53-hawk-talk-100915705/episode/bill-chaves-pod_ep-130-111759642/?cmp=android_share&sc=android_social_share&position=745&autoplay=true&pr=false

Yeah, it's got to be hard to manage the development part of team building these days when so many guys transfer out as often as they do. Might as well get your couple years out of them when they're older and play the guys that are currently better but have a lower ceiling. Healthy balance is obviously ideal though, like with everything.
