  1. Looks like the changes would probably result in a reduction in enrollment, but hopefully an improvement in the overall academic level of the universities. Those remedial class numbers really stick out. I wonder if all the ND universities calculate those percentages the same way. If so,
  2. How long has NDSU been a 4-year University??? Also, NDSU is located on the border of a certain state which provides around half of its enrollment. Think Minnesotans want to go to school in Bismarck?? One drive to Bismarck would cure them of that.
  3. I agree, just didn't want to appear I was completely against all the smaller schools. FYI, WSC's current enrollment is around 300 --> not really necessary.
  4. If Bismarck gets a 4-year university, then Valley City and Mayville should both be closed and Dickinson should become a 2-year. Yes, I realize this would require a constitutional amendment. Personally, I'm not worried about "Bismarck State University" competing with UND in terms of enrollment. It would take decades (I'd throw out a number around 40+ years) for BSU accumulate anything close to resembling the respect, DONORS, and athletics of UND. To be completely honest, I think Bismarck probably should have a 4-year state university (assuming previously mentioned teacher universities are closed/reduced to community colleges). Another thing to note is UMary will push very hard against a state university in Bismarck and UMary has a lot more swing with the legislature (especially the Bismarck reps who would otherwise be pushing for BSU) than a lot of people realize.
  5. At most major universities across the country (I include UND & NDAC in this list) it is no longer about whether the instructor is actually good at teaching students, but about how good the individual is at performing research. This is why a number of professors hired to "teach" at American universities are from countries such as Pakistan and China. Their ability to speak in a large lecture hall in a manner which can be understood by the average student isn't really taken into consideration. This also contributes to the rising cost of higher education, as these "top researchers" are a bit pricier than the basic instructor who typically does a better job educating the students.
  6. Talking about former Grand Forks restaurants, I can't believe 42nd Street Eatery hasn't been mentioned yet I miss that place.
  7. it's green here
  8. It's nice, but I'd prefer wins on the field/court this fall
  9. I don't understand the love for the name Tsunami (other than shortening it to Tsu). North Dakota is in the center of the continent. Tsunamis can't relate.
  10. just a common criminal
  11. Wildfires (the name & logo) could be cool, certainly better than Flames IMO, and they would still relate to the flames UND already has.
  12. One problem with moving Bball back into the hyslop and football back into Memorial is those are University (state) owned buildings. If I recall correctly, that means no booze.
  13. Throw some turf on the floor of the Hyslop --> IPF
  14. Personally I don't like the name Flames (rivals will be calling UND the Flamers, Flameouts, etc. within minutes), but I've had a feeling that'll probably be the way UND admin chooses to go (due to the eternal flame thingy and the flame in the UND logo).

  16. There are Native Americans with extremist views on certain subjects out there, just as there are caucasian, african, hispanic, asian, arabic, persian, etc. extremists. Certain Native American people were used as pawns both by the pro and anti-nickname groups. That's not even debatable, just as certain caucasian, african, hispanic, asian, arabic, etc. people are used as pawns in certain situations. Did you just accuse Sic of throwing facts around like it was a bad thing??
  17. The White Walkers (Game of Thrones anybody?)
  18. The UND Sicatokas
  19. BURN IT
  20. When and where is UND hosting the "banner burning?"
  21. I say just the current students (in 2014 or whenever they get rolling on a new name) vote and then it goes to the President for final approval. Note: I am not a current student. Also, when I say a vote of current students I mean all students, not just the student government.
  22. Billings County voted 150-148 to keep the name. That's the only one so far to vote against UND.

  24. I wasn't being sarcastic on that one.
