  1. Sioux2013 never mentioned who the most talented player on the team is. I have no doubt that Huff would be very good in 1-on-1 or a pick-up game, but he is struggling to play with the team right now. There is a difference between being a very talented basketball player and being a good basketball player.... something for you and Huff to think about.
  2. Here's what I take from that email: 1. The Big Sky Presidents have been meeting/discussing the Sioux nickname issue. 2. The Big Sky Presidents are concerned about the Sioux nickname. 3. The PSU President informed President Kelley of these discussions. 4. President Kelley responded to the PSU President to reassure him (and the other Big Sky Presidents) that the issue would be resolved. 5. In an effort to calm the other Big Sky Presidents, President Kelley had to be clear and confident about what he (along with the rest of the sane people in North Dakota) believed would come about as a result of the meeting with the NCAA (nothing new).
  3. The hotel in the parking lot is a Sleep Inn, it was built as a cheaper alternative to staying at the Canad Inn. The Canad Inn has a couple decent bars in it. If you're looking for a louder/more vibrant scene you will want to go downtown. The best hotel for downtown would probably be the Townhouse. I've never stayed at the Townhouse, but it's an easy walk to the downtown bars. The Alerus Center/Canad Inn are about as far away from downtown as you can get in Grand Forks, but it's still not a bad drive/cab ride.
  4. Care to refute the rest of my statement (I threw in the YSU comment as a joke, but I understand that humor in text form is often difficult to decipher, especially with all the people on the internet who make statements like that and actually believe them)? And I'm not trying to attack you here or anything, just acknowledging that both fan bases think they are better known than they really are.
  5. I think this argument derives from NDSU fans screaming that the Bison are more well known than the Sioux due to their unbeatable football program (Youngstown St didn't beat NDSU, NDSU just played bad and lost). What most NDSU fans won't admit is that on a national scale, nobody cares about FCS football. Now, before you even bring it up, outside the large hockey markets (ND, MN, WI, MI, and the Northeast), few people really care about hockey either.
  6. FCS is the new D2, just look at all the schools in FCS and where they used to be. D2 is the new D3/NAIA with schools like Minot, Sioux Falls, Crookston, and Black Hills State moving up to D2. To deny these facts makes one look pretty dumb. Yes it's a "D1" championship.... but it really isn't any more impressive than a D2 championship was 30 years ago (which NDSU won several of... so congrats).
  7. Nice job proving Oxbow's point.
  8. I just did some mapping and it's actually a shorter drive from Miami (OH) to minneapolis than to omaha, never would've guessed it. And you're definitely right about $$ being the top factor. Now then, I just read the opening post in its entirety and saw that the Target Center is bidding to be the host. Holding it at the Target Center would initially worry me because of the fact the operations people aren't used to running a hockey game out of the place. Ice conditions could become a factor if the place isn't set up properly and that would really suck. Also could be some scheduling conflicts resulting in them not getting the ice set up as early as they should, which would result in poor conditions. I'm not sure if the designers of the Target Center had hockey in mind when they built the place, but I have little knowledge on the subject (other than what wikipedia has to offer )
  9. Is this in reference to the Pepsi Center or DU's arena? Comparing excitement and travel for the conference tournament to the 2008 Frozen Four is risky in my opinion (although Sioux fans have been owning the final five of late).
  10. Good point, but the other schools may not like having the touney in Minneapolis every year because it gives an advantage to UND and UMD (and Jan Brady State University (SCSU) whenever they make the tourney).
  11. Sounds like you need to get your priorities straightened out....
  12. Thanks. As for rotating venues.... did holding the WCHA final 5 at the X really give UM less of a home ice advantage than holding it at Mariucci? I guess I'd be happy with a rotation between the X and Omaha, but I'd think tourneys in Denver and Michigan would see low attendance.
  13. I figured Omaha would be a top choice, being somewhat centrally located between the Michigan and Colorado schools. I don't know a lot about their arena but I thought it was fairly large?
  14. I heard Duke is looking at Coach Jones for MBB.
  15. The shame!! haha
  16. Here it is http://www.mhec.org/MSEPDescription
  17. I have read that Illinois recently joined the Midwest Student Exchange Program (Effective August 2011). I'll see if I can find it documented somewhere.
  18. Irony 1. The use of words to convey a meaning that is opposite of its literal meaning. Synonyms 1, 2. Irony, sarcasm, satire indicate mockery of something or someone. The essential feature of irony is the indirect presentation of a contradiction between an action or expression and the context in which it occurs. In the figure of speech, emphasis is placed on the opposition between the literal and intended meaning of a statement; one thing is said and its opposite implied, as in the comment, "Beautiful weather, isn't it?" made when it is raining or nasty.
  19. Tomorrow (Wednesday) night.
  20. I believe Ole was referring to how Moo U creates excitement for their program by scheduling and beating (upsetting??) the goofers. Not that beating the Minny football team is that great of an accomplishment (see South Dakota in 2010).
  21. NDSU gives out over $15 million in tuition waivers, whereas UND gives closer to $8 million. Looks to me like NDSU should look at their own practices before crying to the state for more money. Also, UND has the Med School, Law School, and the School of Aviation. These programs are much more expensive than interior design, casino operations, and the other tech school majors NDSU has to offer.
