  1. The PC crowd fights "for" my rights? When I lost my job in 2008, I lost my retirement staying current on my bills for the year I was out of work. Since I was not behind, my mortgage could not be adjusted to a lower interest rate. Thank you PC zealots for fighting for me. The PC crowd does nothing for those who work hard, they are consumed by the fact that I might "offend" someone for the color of their skin or the accent in their voice. I challenge you to tell me that a blue eyed blonde named Ole or Lars flew a jet filled with innocent people into a building filled with more innocent people eleven and a half years ago. We have become a nation that coddles murderers but does nothing for those families of the murdered, where criminals have more rights than law abiding citizens and because you are black, red or yellow you can impose your beliefs and say whatever you want to me, but since I'm white, if I reply with anything other than an apology, I'm a racist.
  2. You have to give Dave credit for one thing... He is way ahead of the curve in hating the new nickname. We all know it will pale in comparison to The Fighting Sioux, and will be something vanilla that the PC crowd wants. Most, if not all, of the people who post here regularly will go on and on about what a poor choice has been made. Dave will be able to say those 3 words... "told ya so"
  3. OK how about 2 weeks and 2 days
  4. don't want to get in to this debate, but a few of the D-I schools that have changed their names: Arkansas State Indians Dartmouth Indians Marquette Warriors Miami (Ohio) Redmen Seattle Chieftans St John's Redmen Stanford Indian Syracuse Orangemen Local (off the cuff): Dickinson State Savages Morningside Maroon Chiefs EDIT: As Hayduke says in the next post - these teams didn't seem to suffer. UND will survive as North Dakota ...(insert nickname here)
  5. When a team scores, it would be a-one-a an' a-two-a. Could be a long count for bouncy-ball. or We are just around the corner from Frostbite Falls Just gotta play a little bit...
  6. beware the PC crowd and their current trend of weather phenomena, (Heat, Thunder) or inanimate objects (Wild, Nationals) or even worse the people that are naming MLS soccer teams (Real Salt Lake, Houston Dynamo, Philadelphia Union, Sporting Kansas City, etc)
  7. Keep it with the Nickel Trophy. The NCAA just keeps impressing us, doesn't it?
  8. What is impressive is the stability. Are there really only 5 teams that have left the Big Sky in 50 years?
  9. There is no place that is safe any more. Downtown Minneapolis is probably safer than Williston or Dickinson at 2 am these days.
  10. that's the bottom line, isn't it?
  11. well, Siouperfan did say that Calvary would be unique But Cavalry would be a good option, the 7th Cavalry was part of ND history. There are several Cavaliers, most notably U of Virginia and the Cleveland NBA franchise. (and isn't cavalier an attitude or style of dress... makes me think of musketeers )
  12. Most would probably agree, UND's schedule this fall is the toughest in the Big Sky except for Southern Utah. UND plays the top 4 finishers in the 2011 Big Sky plus the 2011 Great West co-champion Cal Poly.
  13. The best way to satisfy everyone is for UND to qualify for and play NDSU in the FCS playoffs. You know the NCAA would love it - they take most of the gate for playoff games. Host schools seldom make much $$ unless its a sellout and you can be sure a UND-NDSU game would be a sellout (even if it wasn't a playoff game). Then both teams need to continue to make the playoffs (and at least some times with the Sioux UND in a higher ranking so they can host the game) to keep it going. Then, if the schools see the profits from the games going to the NCAA, maybe, just maybe, they will actually start scheduling regular season games so they can keep the gate receipts. As to most of the Sioux boosters here who continue to lay blame on Taylor for holding a grudge over what happened when NDSU went D-I, he wouldn't have a choice or be able to back out of a playoff game. As for the Bison backers who claim that Faison wants an every year contract - keep making the playoffs. UND will join the playoff picture soon. We don't know if it will be this year or sometime shortly after that, but UND does have a history of putting playoff caliber teams on the field. As long as UND and NDSU are in different conferences, the NCAA would salivate at the possibility of matching up the two teams in one of the larger FCS venues and taking the profits. If you don't believe me, just wait.
  14. How about "Saltines", as in Crackers, then
  15. UND Athletics ... its a hoot
  16. Wondered why someone had not floated this idea before... How to Save the WAC
  17. I'l take a stab at it: (and yes, I know this can never happen) Northern Division North Dakota North Dakota State Montana Montana State Idaho Idaho State Southern Division South Dakota South Dakota State Minnesota Wisconsin Iowa Wyoming You could go east/west and substitute Utah or Utah State for Iowa, but then UND would be in NCC2 plus Minny & Sconny. all state flagship schools. 6 teams per division with a conference championship game. torn on FBS vs FCS, because I like the idea of playing for a national championship. included Minnesota and Wisconsin because of the hockey rivalries (would have included Denver instead of Iowa if they had football). A nod to geographic alignment. (my original thought was the 9 teams from the Dakotas, Montana, Idaho & Wyoming but why stop there? at the present time, conferences are getting bigger and 9 is not enough) NDSU trolls will rip this, but why not 'play' during the summer while we wait for Boise to make up their minds so Idaho knows where they are headed?
  18. Its summer and college sports news is mostly about conference realignment. So, in the words of WOPR, Shall we play a game?... If you were the next Jim Delaney, Larry Scott, Doug Fullerton and were a college football conference commissioner, who would you invite to UND's conference? Would it be FBS or FCS or even D-II? How many schools would you want? enough to have a league championship game? Would you want to recreate the old NCC? Would you want a Big Sky footprint? Would you be more eastern, like the MVFC? A blend? Would you want Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, or other BCS level schools? Put on your commissioner's hat and build.
  19. could the WAC pull a Big East in reverse? The WAC, an Eastern FBS Conference?
  20. I know we are past the point where we are fighting to save the name and the PC zealots have had their way with us. But while looking for the ad referred to in this thread, I ran across this Williams & Ree bit on youtube: Fighting Sioux "...apparently some sensitive white people are that way."
  21. Actually, not very surprising when you really think about it. The conferences would love to exclude everyone else. It will also give the B1G or the ACC (or the Big 12 if they are one of the survivors) leverage to force Notre Dame to join a conference. If this happened, the Big Sky, MVFC and CAA could end up on the same level as the Mountain West and the Big East.
  22. But what does ballet have to do with any of this?
  23. The UND schedule in the inagural Big Sky season is brutal. Conference games against Cal Poly, Eastern Washington, Montana & Montana State and non-conference against Portland. That is every team that finished in the top half of the Big Sky last year (with a nod to Poly for their GWFC co-championship). I applaud the enthusiasm from some of you, but the Sioux schedule is probably the toughest in the conference next year.
  24. While we may debate the ups and downs of FBS football, UND does not come up often in other (outside) board conversations as a possibility for moving up. This was on the Idaho Vandals board yesterday:
