And this happened. Surprised this hasn't been shared yet: Standout Minnetonka hockey player suffers frostbite during Hockey Day Minnesota game http://www.fox9.com/news/standout-minnetonka-hockey-player-suffers-frostbite-during-hockey-day-minnesota-game Silly doctor! It builds "character"! Heck, if the kid had gotten gangrene, he would have built even more character! THIS is what our youth need! (sarcasm) #ignoranceisthenewcommonsense

Since we got rid of the Fighting Sioux name and logo, I think the odds of Jackson donating to help the basketball programs have gone up.....if we have the nerve to ask. Jackson played here and his experiences at UND helped him get to where he is today, so I would think we could convince him to give to MBB and WBB.
-
Nice putting words in my mouth. I did not say "nothing else matters to the Engelstad Family." I only meant as it pertains to UND athletics. And it is true. Do you see KEM writing checks for the MBB, WBB or FB programs? Or any other programs not named Men's Hockey? I don't. They give to charities, good for them (and for the recipients of their goodwill). But that has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Nice try, please play again.

The Engelstad family cares only about hockey. Nothing else matters. Their words and actions reflect this. Time to court other potential donors; it is unhealthy to rely on one benefactor.
-
Yeah, I forgot about that.
-
Maybe Phil Jackson can write us a big, fat check to build a new basketball complex on the current Hyslop Sports Center site?
-
So we should give Jones an extension? Doh-Kay. #mediocrityU

That's fair enough. -

I am not giving up on Bubba just yet, but I agree with the general tone of your post. -
So NDSU isn't swimming in money after all? That is good to know.
-
Calling for the heads of Berry and Bubba is premature at this point, although I think their seats are getting a little warm right now. But it is quite clear that MBB and WBB are going straight down the toilet. And please don't give me examples of what happened 3, 4 and 5 years ago; recent trends for both programs are down, way down. And I am sick of hearing how we can't afford to change anything that doesn't work. Like UND-FB-FAN said above, "...it’s doable for anyone truthfully determined to do so. Find more money (donors, budget reallocation, etc.) and don’t pay such binding contracts to unproven coaches." Chaves is going to earn his money the next couple of years and I don't envy his job right now. Like I have said before, NDSU makes waves, while UND makes excuses. And it is getting really sickening.
-
The Chiefs would be headed to the Super Bowl if one of their defensive linemen hadn't been lined up in the neutral zone on the same play that Brady threw a pick late in the 4th quarter with Chiefs in the lead. When you get Brady and the Patriots down, you better finish the job. KC found out the hard way what happens when you don't.
-
But isn't that why we kiss KEM's a$$, even though she doesn't really care all that much about UND? If she won't help us buy out Berry, then she isn't the asset you and others think she is. Know who your friends are (and aren't).

I feel it is time to bring this post back from 5+ years ago. This has been a slow-motion disaster that started when we moved to Division I without a plan to properly fund our non-hockey sports. And it has to change. Soon. Bill Chaves, a lonely fan base turns its eyes to you. #darkdaysindeed

There is a lot of frustration across the board in the Northern Red River Valley right now. Glad you are enjoying it. But unless you have something useful to contribute, go back to Bisonville.
-
What? Are you kidding? Didn't you get the memo that its "all about teaching life lessons" and "all about the relationships". After all, this is no different than high school, right? (sarcasm) Chaves picked one heck of a time to take over this athletic department. #darkdaysreturn

North Dakota at Omaha - January 18-19, 2019
fightingsioux4life replied to Dave Berger's topic in Men's Hockey
We won 2 NCAA titles in the Old Barn, 5 in the Old REA and 1 in the New REA. Our last really bad stretch of seasons was 91-94, with one losing season (2002) since 1995. -
Looks like neither basketball team at UND and NDSU is worth squat right now. Could be some heads rolling at the end of the season.
-
Unfortunately, it is where people have accepted us being at. #apathyistheoppositeoflove

Or maybe NDSU will forfeit in 2021 so they don't have to "degrade" themselves playing in Grand Forks?

North Dakota at Canisius January 4-5, 2019
fightingsioux4life replied to Dave Berger's topic in Men's Hockey
I don't think Berry should get axed right now. But anyone who thinks everything is just fine the way it is also wrong. This program has regressed since hanging #8 and it is a trend, whether we want to talk about it or not. -
Just wanted to clarify.
-
I wasn't talking about "jumping off the fan wagon". I never will either. But I also will not ignore what I see as a negative trend line regarding this program.
-
There is a clear downward trend over the past two and one-half seasons. That is not "hyperbole", that is fact. Next we'll hear that a lot of programs would love to have a winning record every year like us, so we shouldn't be concerned about not being championship contenders anymore. Where (and when) do you draw the line? The season isn't over, but I don't like what I have seen so far and I will believe there will be improvement when I see it....and not a second before that.

North Dakota at Canisius January 4-5, 2019
fightingsioux4life replied to Dave Berger's topic in Men's Hockey
The point is that those goalies aren't as good as we make them look. Canisius had a save percentage well below .900 before our series. We should have pumped in 3 goals per night minimum.
