  1. Apparently only 1937 at game??? Seemed like more than that. I had in head betty held around 3k. Great crowd today.
  2. 1404 listed at the UND game today. Really seemed like closer to two thousand.
  3. I was happy to hear dick jankowski doing public address at Williams though he did struggle at times. The guy is hilarious and does speaking engagements as polish eagle. He also used to do p a for shakopee which is when i met and worked with him.
  4. real tough draw for egf and unfortunate bc they should have been seeded. Ranked #3 according to computer qrf out of state qualifying teams. Granted you still have to beat everyone and we had few too many turnovers and gave up few too many offensive boards. Really showed that we belonged especially against team that has been there before. Egf hadn't been since 71. Btw anyone notice floor wasn't raised for this tourney at Williams? They had platform and moved back first rows of seats. I know been lots complaints about pushing seats and fans back from court at target center. Edit: forgot to mention the bummer on seed was having tough first game. There is no consolation bracket in basketball...which is ridiculous.
  5. And how does it get fixed? Does the WCHA need to play less league games and start beating up on the East more? Does it even matter until a WCHA team finally doesn't win it all?
  6. Then the split happened and Warroad went next four years and Roseau opted up in 98. Which is when EGF beat Warroad in I believe 2ot to go and end the streak. I should state I don't know for sure on Roseau reason, but what I've always heard. I think Roseau then went first 3 years they were AA.
  7. This year EGF could've played AA, but c'mon man. This was only their 9th trip to state and they had never won. The scores from section games is because hockey in northwest MN is dieing other than at Warroad, EGF and TRF where it has been crazy competitive though TRF is going to struggle for few years. EGF only has 500 kids and to put in perspective, Bemidji has 1500. Oh and St. Thomas got away with staying A because they have 500 kids. BUT ALL BOYS! This was the first year EVER they won the Mariucci conference which includes Moorhead, Bemidji, and Roseau from AA along with TRF, Warroad and Crookston I believe. Keep in mind Roseau opted up in the 90s because they never could beat Warroad and proved they had legit teams. Also now if you go AA your bantam teams have to. For the really big schools it's not a big deal, because they can put their second or third team in single A. I'm not sure if you're forced to opt girls hockey to AA as well. This was a fantastic team full of great guys. A retiring ref had a letter published in the Exponent talking about how the whole team saluted and thanked him after his last game. If you didn't know EGF boys basketball has now also qualified for state. Hasn't happened since 1971. Very difficult to do as their section 8AA has 17 teams in it and the southern section teams (Highway 10) don't have hockey to compete for players with. They have some crazy coop combinations for hockey. They play Wednesday night at 6 against Esko in Williams arena.
  8. So if we do win would we just be playing Minnesota again in first game NCAA?
  9. Good game for egf. They do need to not get into the habit of just flinging puck out of zone like they were doing in second. Too many icings. Orono really tried to impede and slow down the egf players. I thought 18 loved was best on ice but 9 Bowen stick handled around them all game and 19 tweten was a force. Egf beat St. Cloud cathedral earlier this year 3-1. (They had also beat totino to start year. 3-0 I think). I don't think Cathedral played all that great but egf was also missing Bowen I believe. They should win but it will be tight.
  10. I believe they have to get permission from the visiting team.
  11. Real tough draw for EGF. They will play at 6 on Wednesday. But if they get by that first game they have already beaten the #4 and #5 seeds.
  12. Personally they should all be in the same section at the highest classification...or go back to having their own state tourney. Here's a strange one for you, because no one every accuses them of recruiting and they shouldn't. Sacred Heart in EGF isn't sports powerhouse and yet their girls basketball team is very good this year (though weak schedule). However I think most of their players are actually living in GF. Now a little different because GF doesn't have a catholic high school but I can see where other MN schools would have a gripe. And how about that Achiever Academy. I'm not sure how long they've been around, but they ended up having to forfeit section championship in girls hockey and have "kicked off" like 5 boys players to be eligible. One of the girls team members is from GF. They are located out of the Cities, but I read they didn't even have a building until month or two ago. It's a online high school where the kids play hockey all day. That is definition of a midget team and yet they get to play high school hockey.
  13. OK...I started a bleep storm so let me see if I can add some more fuel to the fire. Yes public schools recruit. Much bigger issue in the cities. For MafiaMan (we used to hang out at Sensor's) Kennedy is now single A. Difference is that to be able to play at public you have to move to the district or sit out a year. I don't think the same holds for a private school. Also it always looks better offering a free education that costs around $20,000 a year. On a side note DeVillers told me in ND a family actually divorced so a girl could play basketball at a different town without officially moving. So the problem is everywhere. Warroad...yes any time a Marvin is coming through they recruit. Check bantam records. They don't go to state and yet always contend in high school. Same for girls. Lots of job offers and store offers get thrown around. In the late 90s the whole section 8 was ready to forfeit every game against them and the state had to step in. They also get plenty of Canadian "foreign exchange" students. that conveniently play hockey. What else came up...oh the seeds. EGF has much better QRF than Hermantown, but Hermantown has had some better comparative scores. However, EGF was missing Bowen for over half the season and he is there best play maker. IIRC they both beat St. Cloud Cathedral and Totino Grace (did they win tonight?). I think Totino or New Prague gets the 3 with other the 4 and St. Cloud Cathedral the 5. Loverne plays nobody and it's always proven when that section makes state. Personally the A bracket may be the tightest it's been in years. BTW EGF played very poorly against Warroad and still pulled off a win in that section championship. Now I remember the last thing. The previous Warroad coach was brought up. I don't remember what I heard on him moving, but Warroad was making money on him. He has like 6 kids and as someone posted it was probably about 13 thousand per kid that Warroad got. EGF actually gets the least in the northwest for some reason. TRF gets more per kid and has a bigger population.
  14. I never feel bad when a private school goes down.
  15. Yes it does. And the class A side beat the crap out the AA side this year. Roseau also going back after beating Moorhead. I was surprised because felt Bemidji was better when I saw them, but Roseau got them in semi. Roseau goalie is their make or break. Tho can say that on any team.
  16. I've seen a lot of EGF games and this was not a normal one for them. In fact worst I've seen them play since before Bowen came back. Granted I think that was Warroad doing good job of pressuring. Too often EGF was just dumping out of own zone instead of breaking out. Weber has been solid all year in net. Granted he normally faces an average of like 12 shots. Ice looked awful slow. Puck seemed sticky. Not sure if a detriment or advantage for either team. EGF should be the #1 seed as Breck has a few more losses. But Breck got EGF bad with a 6-0 win. But that was EGF beating #1 double A Blaine (I believe) at night and then having to turn around and play like a noon start against Breck. Even better news for everyone in Minnesota...St Thomas loss in OT to Eagan and will not be going to state.
  17. also streamed.
  18. I thought johnny had promised to never come back? I can't remember why he was leaving the board tho.
  19. Actually he came out and said he was surprised that the fact that UND travels out west was a reason some recruits chose UND. Keep in mind many of these high school kids don't even leave their state and that traveling is a perk to them. Sure the cost of traveling during regular season is more, but FU fans always conveniently forget that our non-conference schedule for many sports is now easy to fill and requires very little travel.
  20. Just to help instead of by individual team. If Canada-Finland goes OT, then USA gets the #2 seed.
  21. So if Russia loses it's looking like they would play the U.S. if they get by the play in game??? As much as I want to see them get upset, I don't think I want to see them again that quick.
  22. I feel like my first question has been answered but I can't remember. What was the difference in calculations that CHN was using? Any idea why CHN knew to make change that you and USCHO didn't?
  23. He's the best player I've seen in section 8 A or AA. Has great stick handling ability and some nice size and yet is quick. Didn't see much of his shot when he played EGF. I also think a year of USHL couldn't hurt.

CBS Sports doesn't release any ratings. I'm very curious as well, but I guess we wait until next year and see what teams get more games. On NBC Sports last year UND had the most watched game or even top two. I'm very curious about the tourney. Seeing lots of ads for it, so it has me thinking tickets may not be going the best. I'm looking forward to trying Minneapolis and it'll be nice for more options to eat, but hopefully the fans don't spread out too much.
  25. Partly. trucks used to show up like 5 or 6 nights a week. Depends if people buy enough early so it gets reordered, but plenty of times what came on the truck wasn't the highest quality.
