  1. Paras are required for special Ed students. They don't make much money and I bet a lot of it is federally funded. The amount of sped students has grown by a lot. Whether actual issues or parents looking for reasons why their kid has behavior problems or isn't good academically many more request the label. Some kids literally get one adult with them all day. What will really blow your mind is the amount of violent extreme behaving elementary kids. That wasn't a thing back when I was in school and hence paras weren't needed. I hear kindergarten teachers are now having to change diapers and potty train kids. Seems like it should be a requirement to enter school.
  2. Surprised no one has mentioned the Pac 12. That will determine what happens in the west. I believe I read that Washington St and Oregon St would have to invite the whole Mountain West (or most???). There is some sort of merger built into their partnership for next year. But if they don't want to fully join the Mountain West why would they take them all? Those two schools get all the payouts and for some reason just announced that they are keeping the Pac 12 network alive for next year. I see the reformation of the Pac 12 transforming the west. Leave some teams and they'll need a new conference or hold onto the Mountain West but add a bunch of teams.
  3. Why don't they have similar monikers? Is there an actual difference between 'Association' and 'Conference' names and makeups?
  4. Is it a tie in to England? Because when I was over there I was surprised they also use yards and miles.
  5. Enjoyed the look and the helmets. What I really like is the "fighting hawks" down the pants instead of a stripe. At least on the white it was there and I think on the blacks something was written as well.
  6. I heard that the president had a bit of sway with Alerus Center in allowing it to happen. Whether true or not I'm glad they got to do it.
  7. Yes maybe 3 or 4 years ago they played at EGF turf while their field was being leveled and reseeded.
  8. Being that far down the road hurt. But the killers were losing their brewer and trying to become big canner. The stuff they can and sent to other other bars was "safe" but just wasn't that good. Issue for them is that their vats are so big it's tough to take risks and try new things. Half brothers keeps finding new popular beers like Pickle Rickle and rotates them in when they have the ingredients. But that also builds the demand. Drekker is a different animal as they make awesome beer, still take chances, and have huge distribution. Heck it is cheaper to get down in Arizona than here.
  9. Blame ESPN as they dictate the times.
  10. It's not...yet. Was voted down last spring or the spring before. I believe there is some sort of league of school sponsored teams though.
  11. I've driven by soccer and they don't have 100 fans paying $0. I've been to tennis and it had almost as many fans as the soccer games I've driven by. Fewer coaches as well as only 2. Soccer has 3 and 3 support staff. I'd imagine someone also helps tennis, but no one is listed.
  12. Yes. And with the amount of recruiting they've always done they should be AA. The boys haven't been as bad recently, but the girls had like under 10 kids from Warroad.
  13. Place was an absolute maze. Had to go through the locker room area if you traveled from old classroom area to new. WhIch I guess made it fun. Are they tearing everything down including the old intramural gyms and pool? I though those parts were newer. Trying to remember if they were named something different than Hyslop.

And they are for the first time ever.
  15. As a church, do they pay taxes on rent they receive from tenants?
  16. Agreed, If you haven't been in that campground you should go down there on bike path and check it out. You'd never know in a city. With hwy 2 raised up you really don't hear much traffic. Such a super idea and was able to take advantage of existing infrastructure like the old city streets. Not only are restaurants close, but the pool is right across the road. There are tent camping spots closer to the river and some hidden fishing spots. I thought at one point it was one of the busier state run campgrounds in Minnesota.
  17. Ate there other day and seems like rest of building is being used as some sort of office space.
  18. Hockey / baseball are different than basketball. I know some basketball coaches that would rather the one player score a ton and try to outscore the other team on own. One person can truly steal a hockey / baseball game (goalie / pitcher) or as someone said a bad bounce in hockey can be all the difference. So I do like idea of rewarding the higher seeds with getting to host a 3 game series. Or double elimination, though I don't see this working due to amount of games / rest. More fans would go knowing they got to watch team more than once. I'm not opposed to to the single elimination with all the parity as it is intense and fun. However, higher seeds should still be rewarded. Facts are some of these lower seeded small schools are used to playing in front of empty seats. Why should they get the advantage? Let top 1-4 overall each host a regional. Maybe you need a lower limit for rink size, but allow that team option of hosting at a close rink that may not be theirs (if arrangements can be made). If not move to #2 seed. Or just let the small school host as they earned that right. I think the super regional could become a fun great tradition, but I bet the NCAA would screw it up and have all west in west ensuring east always gets half of the frozen four even though history has shown they are more likely to only get one.
  19. Is this next year the year that umtc gets rid of the olympic ice? Or did that happen already and I didn't realize it?
  20. Joe's Diner in EGF was back to 24 hours when I was there a couple weeks ago.
  21. Saw the signature collectors / flea market people were out at First Community Credit Union on 32nd. Is that banking business against having a big project come to town? Or did these people illegally set up shop?

Sounds like Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly to LSU is a done deal.
  23. You maybe need to do more research on the history of that place. They are greedy and crooked as hell and the ownership change doesn't excuse the fact that they owe city taxpayers hundreds of thousands. Not a place that East Siders talk of about going to. They knew the rules and yet tried to F over every other business in town and open. Trust me...other owners in town were furious with them. It was no act of bravery.
  24. Yes I am pretty sure the same.
