  1. Crank - aka meth aka crystal aka speed - a synthetic stimulant made out of either red phosphorus or anhyrous ammonia and ephedrine, plus some other great things like battery acid, drain-o, pretty much any other chemicals you would find under your sink. It turns you into something like this...
  2. Same here, I thought Stafford was the only one that could return. The US's chances are looking better. O'Sullivan was the best player on the ice (after Parise). Fritsche, Suter and Montoya should anchor a good defensive team. Now if only I could afford tickets.
  3. The biggest difference - MJ players get paid and play at least 2X more games in a more NHL style setting. I think more kids realize that getting an education to fall back on is a good idea, now that college is producing more NHL players it is hard to say it hurts their chances. Still a player like Crosby that is a lock at playing in the NHL when he's 18 or 19 is better off in MJ's.
  4. Vandevelde did less than Gifford at the State Tourny. Vandevelde played on the third line. I already knew about Vandevelde, and I'm still surprised to see a kid that wasn't on his high school's top line getting a scholorship to the Sioux. He's a good player, one of many from Moorhead, but not a standout IMO.
  5. Bina also went on to Lincoln before coming to UND, where he was their top offensive d-man. Sabin was drafted by the Sharks/Steel but did not make the team, not sure if he didn't want to go to Chicago or if they cut him. Where did Sabin play last year? Here is his all time Bismarck stats: Karl Sabin 2001-2003 90 21 54 75 54. 75 points in 90 games is good, but not great. The only current D1 player that played a significant amount for Bismarck is Prpich's buddy Marco Peluso who had 63 points in 55 games - along with 269 pims I'm not trying to get down on players like Sabin or Sando, but the reality is, they are not "top quality recruits" in fact they aren't even recruits. This doesn't mean they will never play for the Sioux but the odds are not in their favor. To say that Sabin "would have been on the team" may be your opinion, but I highly doubt it, not with NHL drafted players riding the pine most of the season.
  6. I suppose he could have flunked some classes his senior year just so he could play another year of midgets.
  7. From what I know of the situation O'Leary was screwed. Then again Blais probably had the misfortune of meeting his father and cut him just for being related to such an a-hole. There is not going to be room for any walkons unless some more players leave. I believe UND has "open" tryouts every year, but there are personal invitations for some to attend the tryouts. I doubt any player not "asked" to try out has ever made the team. Sabin was cut by the Ice Sharks (or Chicago Steel) of the USHL, I think he ended up playing for Bismarck, not sure what happened to him since then, but I highly doubt he would have been "on the roster but for his academics", not many NAHL players play D1, even less for teams like the Sioux, unless they move up to the USHL. That Volrath kid was in the team picture at the beginning of the season. I don't remember him from ND hockey, where is he from?
  8. Are you kidding. The media spotlight on basketball players is just beginning. Now that they aren't kept a close eye on by coaches, agents, managers etc... We have to endure months of who was arrested for smoking dope, hangin with their gangster friends, selling smack. Not to mention who's making a rap album, who's banging J-Lo, who's giving acting a try. Plus the Olympics are this year so we get the "bonus" coverage of who's going to Athens plus previews of the Slovak's, Austrailian, Brazilian, Chinese, Canadian etc... teams and how they fair against the 04 "Dream Team", assuming they can find 10 NBA stars not in jail or promoting themselves. Although hockey seems to be catching up- the Blues player trying to hire a hitman. What Russian player is banging Annika etc..
  9. My take on it is: 1 - Hockey has always and will always be a better sport to watch live. It is too fasts moving for television, at least for the average sports fan. 2 - Hockey is still a regional thing. A lot of places down south now have hockey, but mostly for rich kids whose parents are from the north. For a kid to play hockey in Texas or Arizona the parents have to throw down about $15K just to play. Add the traveling expenses on top of that, including flying to several tournaments. Personally I think gooning the game up attracts the southern viewers - look at the Central Hockey League - it is basically a Slapshot like league mostly in Texas. Hockey is too complicated for the simple redneck mind, but watching guys beat the crap out of each other with sticks is good entertainment.
  10. This is a huge honor for Blake. If he keeps performing well he should be named to the Olympic team, assuming the NHL will allow it. I see what you mean by saying Blake was small - and physically weak. He still dominated in bantams, ability wise he was anything but weak, he was the fastest, most skilled player in the area. Luckily he's a couple years older than me, so I never had to play against him. Blake is still small and probably one of the weaker NHL players, but he gets the job done. If only the NHL will realize skilled players don't have to be 6-4 230lbs.
  11. I don't see Calgary as being a very cheap team. They have outshot the Sharks, or been close the entire series. They don't use a neutral zone trap very often and Iginla is probably the best player in the league. All the teams clutch and grab, Detroit and CO do it just as much as the rest. I was kinda hoping for a Philly - San Jose series just to see the Primeau brothers fight again. Watching their mother cry on ESPN was priceless. Anyone else catch the 91 North Stars - Oilers game on ESPN Classic? After seeing that it shows how much the game has changed, Mike Modano was flying all over the ice without a 230 lb goon on his back. It was a great game to watch again.
  12. Kent: Mr. Simpson, how do you respond to the charges that petty vandalism such as graffiti is down eighty percent, while heavy sack-beatings are up a shocking 900%? Homer: Aw, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent. Forty percent of all people know that.
  13. It sounds like Wrigley is going to ask the Justice Department to seek the death penalty. The ok has to come from the USAG himself. Ashcroft doesn't seem the type to back down from the death penalty so I would think the chances are good. From the sound of it, it takes several months for the Justice Department to make their decision, typical gov't, I'm sure they'll spend about $100K "assessing" the case.
  14. Sidney Crosby? What a funny name, never heard of him.
  15. Since its a dude I won't feel so bad if someone kicks his ass, I guess I live by the motto never hit a girl. I sometimes ponder who is the bigger jerkoff Frankin or Moore? I usually determine it is a tie, so as a tie breaker I go for who is uglier. Again a tie, they have to be the two ugliest human beings. Which explains a lot, they were probably picked on as kids and have not gotten over it. As a result they blame anyone they see as part of the "cool" crowd for all of societies problems.
  16. Roenick is from Boston, but I don't think he played any college hockey. He started playing with the Blackhawks soon after high school, 18 or 19. I think he played in the NHL straight out of high school, he may have spent part of a season in the AHL or Major Juniors.
  17. I have to put one more on. For all you imature types that like the Family Guy (like me), I just found this site: Family Guy
  18. Oh Ya
  19. Winnipeg .. won .. 3 .. Stanley Cups - I'm going off the top of my head but I'm 99.9% sure the Jets never won the Cup, let alone 3 times. I'm pretty sure they were never even in the finals. They may have won the WHA before they joined the NHL. No wonder you have such fond memories of these old rinks, in my head the North Stars won 8 Cups and are still in Minnesota, actually they are still in the playoffs this year.
  20. I say they should take a bus to AA, it would build character. From what I understand they fly commercial to Colorado, and Madison because it is easy and cheap out of GF. But to get to Orono, I'd imagine their would be a number of layovers - I doubt NW or anyone else goes their direct from Minny. Does Houghton even have an airport? If they do they are probably shut down 1/2 the winter - they average around 200 inches of snow per year.
  21. Spell check automatically corrects Xcel for spelling their name wrong.
  22. Your Cletus avatar made that post exponentially funnier. My favorite is the RRV fairgrounds concert area. After a couple 1/2 gallon beers about 75% of the people mistake the floor for the trough. I'd hate to be the poor SOB that has to clean those things the next morning.
  23. Having worked at the Excel and spent a lot of time in it, I can say the REA is easily a "better" arena. The Excel is bigger, that is the only advantage they have over the REA. The Target center sucks for hockey, it was not designed for it, they cannot keep good ice. The Excel is much like the REA, except wherever you see concrete at the Excel it is marble at the REA. Wherever there is plastic at the Excel, it is leather at the REA. The REA is the best rink I've ever been to. Most in the NHL consider Toronto the best NHL rink, with Excel running second. I've never been to Toronto so I cannot say how the REA matches up to it. I can say the REA is at least the second nicest if not the nicest hockey rink in the world. The Eagles have been to the area a couple times in the past few years. They can get away with charging $150 for a ticket the when they are still a novelty. The novelty has worn off and nobody is going to fork out that much cash to see the same show they saw two years ago.

  25. I heard you are the maintenance engineer at the ABC bookstore. From Clerks Randal: [reading magazine] Have you ever wondered how much the average jizz-mopper makes per hour? Dante: What's a jizz-mopper? Randal: He's the guy that cleans up the nudie booth after each guy jerks off.
