  1. The difference with O'Leary is that it was reported he was promised a scholorship for the 01/02 season after playing well the previous year (he played a nice checking game in the NCAA's). It is hard to imagine how a Freshman who saw regular playing time on the third line of a team that played in the Championship game gets cut the next season. Of course most of my info comes from the Forum and other North siders following the story. Which is why I'm sure there is more to the story.
  2. The article seems to put all of the blame on the college coaches. DB has said before he doesn't like signing kids that are 16 or 17, but the NCAA allows it, so the coaches are forced to do it or risk losing the recruit. I agree it is easy for the coach to back out leaving the player SOL, but what are they supposed to do? I don't think anyone can say DB treats the players poorly without knowing more. I still think Pat O'Leary was given the run around when he was told he would get a scholorship after the 00/01 season and was then cut the next fall. It looks like a shady deal, but I've seen Pat at several Sioux games the last couple of years, so I don't think he is all that bitter. There is most likely something going on the public doesn't know about, nor do they need to know. As far as Olson, I never believed the rumors about his grades, he wanted to play DB wanted him to head to juniors, so he left for majors. Fylling was asked to play in the USHL, after playing for a year, he did and it would be hard to argue it wasn't good for him.

    USCHO ROY

    1. I saw Hensick play 4 times this year. 2. He is a Defenseman? He played forward every game I saw, and was listed as a forward on the roster. 3. MI did not have the talent - but they played a much softer schedule (through no fault of their own the CCHA was soft this year)- note his scoring - very few points against top 10 teams. 4. I have never complained about any of the other awards - BB not on first team, no respect for the D-men. 5. The ROY award should be a no brainer this year, I'm not seeing this as a Sioux homer, but as a college hockey fan in general. USCHO has always had the best reporting, but INCH is pulling closer and closer. 6. Murray being an ok player on a great line is bunch of BS. Many times this year I thought he was the best player on the ice. He started slow but finished very strong. 7. I think Stafford was screwed for not being on the all rookie team, but I can see why they don't put two players from the same team on it. 8. In my opinion Porter should also be on the all rookie team. Ok I may be looking through green glasses now, but it is just my opinion.

    USCHO ROY

Hensick, who led all freshmen nationally in scoring this season with 46 points, was named the USCHO.com Rookie of the Year. A native of Howell, Mich., Hensick led the Wolverines in scoring and was also a unanimous pick to the All-USCHO Rookie Team. SCORING LEADERS Rk Name GP G A Pts. Pt./GM GW PP SH 13 Brady Murray, Fr, F, UND 37 19 27 46 1.24 6 6 0 T.J. Hensick, Fr, F, UM 43 12 34 46 1.07 1 6 0 Hensick scoring game by game Hensick Very streaky player that faded out towards the end of the year, as many freshman do. Murray scoring game by game Murray Very consistent scorer that game on strong at the end of the year. Murray tied Hensick for Freshman scoring, but played in 6 less games! Murray had 6 game winning goals compared to Hensick's 1. Murray was selected to the WJ team Hensick was not. The only thing Hensick has Murray didn't was leading his team in scoring. But he was the unanimous pick for ROY? PCM - didn't you get a vote? INCH's even picked Murray for ROY and those guys are from Michigan.
  5. Wasn't the U18 exhibition game the only one he played? I don't think it matters since he dressed i.e. was on the roster for several games. I believe when Ziggy was at Lincoln he and Lammy split time 50/50 so those two are familiar with competing against each other. Another interesting fact is Lincoln's back up goalie this year was Aaron Walski from Fargo North - the goalie that dueled with NZ in the multi OT championship game a few years back.
  6. I agree (assuming you mean 97, MI won in 98). Brenden Morrison's Hobey Acceptance speach the day before UND and BU played for the title was one of the lamest things I've ever heard. He sounded like a 2 year old that just had their favorite toy taken away. For those that don't remember he said something along the lines of; the best team isn't playing for the national championship tomorrow night. Titles are not given out for the best team on paper, you have to earn them, this isn't college football.
  7. I'm sure there is more to the story. This is one of the top D1 programs in the country, not Pee Wee B hockey. Some kids are going to get burned. In 2001 Blais said he was going to give Pat O'Leary, a walk on that played well, a scholership the next season. The next season he cuts him, I'm not going to go out and call DB a liar, I'm sure their is more to the story. There was also a rumor that Olson didn't have the ACT or GPA to get into school, as both UND and UM tried signing him. I would never say this as fact because I have no idea what went on, just like you. Dean Blais does what is best for the UND program and the players. If he decides they will not fit into his game plan, he's not going to string them along. His numbers speak for themselves for his coaching abilities. His on and off ice interviews are always classy and down to earth. (except, maybe, his comments towards the goalies ).
  8. Brad Berry was on the radio this morning. Missed most of the interview, but he picked Duluth over BC, said Sandy is a real class act and the entire coaching staff is chearing them on. Talking about ZP he said Zach had supper at Scott Stevens house the other night. I guess as captain he does this for all the new players. Berry said this is probably for the best, that they take it slow and let him adjust to everything. Sounds like ZP is going to stick with the Devils for the playoffs, Berry said he will likely play if the Devils are playing poorly or have some big injuries. Berry also said ZP wants to finish his degree at UND someday. He also said the coaching staff told ZP he has to bring the Cup to GF if the Devils win.
  9. What is interesting is the Jr. Bruins roster is about 75% different for the national tournament. They are basically a prep school all star team. Ray Bourque's kid played for Cushing the entire season, until he 'magically' appears on the Jr. Bruins? Here is the top four leading scorers in the tourny. I guess Bourque is a man among boys, maybe BU will actually win a few games next year. 19 Bourque JR. BRUINS F 11 11 22 14 Ryan JR. BRUINS F 7 11 18 17 Smolinsky JR. BRUINS D 5 7 12 15 Quirk JR. BRUINS F 6 4 10 Top players for SSM where Milo and Mowbry, Duncan was pretty quiet on the stat sheets all tourny.
  10. Hale had been playing regularly the entire season. I wonder if he has a nagging injury they want to rest him for or the coach is sending a message about a recent bad game(s)? Hopefully he'll dress next week in the playoffs.
  11. He'll easily be the richest college student at UND, minus the med and law professors probably the richest person. I wonder if he'll stick around this summer and work out with the Sioux players. I really hope there is an NHL next season, or ZP's decision will not look so great. I don't think the $$ was that important to him, he knew it was coming sooner or later. I'm sure he would rather play for the Sioux next season than the Albany River Rats.
  12. If he doesn't play this season and there is no NHL next season, I'm sure he'll regret his choice. I think he was looking ahead to next season more than playing immediately. In my opinion he showed some class signing right away rather than leaving in August. The Devils are one of the few NHL teams that give college players a good shot at playing, they will not screw him over. When will the NHL get it, they are trying to figure out ways to increase scoring by changing the rules and equipment. Maybe they should give players like Panzer some playing time, instead of these goons that spend the entire game trying not to get scored on. Maybe this St. Louis will get their attention.
  13. Fox Article She has no history of mental illness. Sounds like it was just for attention. Obviously 'normal' people don't do things like this so they will find something wrong with her, probably borderline. Insanity defense will not work, according to the article she planned the entire thing out a few weeks in advance. She was obviously very aware of her actions. I hope they prosecute her, the biggest damage done is the fact future stories like hers may not draw the media attention for fear of being duped again.
  14. Come on now! 1. I didn't start that last thread. 2. It was an April Fools joke, one time a year you can mess with people. 3. Edmonton Paper This is the link to the Edmonton Journal and there is no story about Greene. 4. So April Fools joke = funny. Any other day of the year = lame. Please see the difference.
  15. 10-15% agents commission NHLPA Fees Other fees? Apartment in NJ - at least $1500/month (can't live in team hotel forever) 2004 Bentley with 28 inch rims, customized leather (Green and white) $250K Wait, he's in the NHL not the NBA, scratch the Bentley. Still not a bad gig, but the expenses add up.

When I graduate, I can't find a job for the summer Blacklisted, eh? That explains everything, I call about a job and they hang up on me as soon as I mention my name. You tell a few people your professional ambition is to be like Lionel Hutz and all of a sudden your blacklisted. Hey Schmidtdoggydog you said the FARGO legal community - isn't your office in Moorhead? Do you have any job openings?
  17. I think this is the consensus. The chances of Toews going to college are not much better than Crosby. He's not going to get as much $$ as Crosby, but he'll still make a ton for a 16 year old kid and he'll be on the NHL fast track. Blake Wheeler has narrowed his choices to BC and the Gophers. He did stand out more than any A player in the state tourney, it's hard to tell for sure, being Breck had no competition. Any kid with his size and skill could go anywhere he wanted, he fits the NHL mold so well, I'd be surprised to see him play more than 2 years of college hockey.
  18. The police have to investigate the case as if she was abducted, but I would be surprised if this turns out to more than a cry for attention on her part. This and the Feb. event fit no MO I've ever heard of. She claims her abductor forced out to this place, that she was familiar with, but she doesn't seek help after he leaves? Looks like they are releasing more info at 4:30.

I got the quote from the hockey's future site, I agree it sounds pretty dumb. Writing and talking BS is all they teach lawyers to do.
  20. Matt Greene 2001-02 Green-Bay Gamblers USHL 55 4 20 24 150 This site Hockey Stats archives many old stats. Not sure how reliable they are, but I checked what they had on Beaverson, and it was the same as the USHL site. Greene had more goals, assists and PIM than Beaverson, who knows what the team was like though.

This coming from a defense lawyer? A public defender no less! Ouch! How about in effigy, I'll be the Iranian strapped to the light pole.
  22. Green Bay Gamblers Beaverson had a team worse -8 +/- this year and only 8 points but lead in PIM 141 .. not sure how I feel about that. I saw him play two years ago, he did not stand out, but it was before he signed with the Sioux so I wasn't paying much attention, and good stay at D men rarely are noticed. With these stats though, looks like the only part of his game he improved from 02/03 was fighting, which is not going to help the Sioux. Unless he suits up for one game against tech to pummel that 6-7 goon.

It sounds like an official press release? I should drop out of law school and go into mass comm. I was bored in class this morning, after the professor played an April Fools joke on us I thought it would be funny. I guess I forgot to check back and put April Fools Well, April Fools

Matt Greene Signs with Oilers today Matt Greene, a very good defensive positioning and very physical Defenseman, signed with the Oilers today. GM Kevin Lowe said Greene will join the team today and suit up for the Oilers final game on Saturday. The Oilers are two points ahead of Nashville for the final playoff spot, but have played two more games. Lowe said he is anticipating a playoff run and Greene will provide much needed relief to the Oiler's beat up defensive core.
  25. I hope I'm wrong, and I'll feel like an a-hole if I am, but something stinks about this case. Sounds like some kind of attention seeking stunt on her part.
