She is actually a he. See the USCHO discussion - pages 4-6 USCHO for a picture, as well as his email addresses, phone number and home address. This idiot appears to be getting a lot of attention, I have yet to hear anything sympathetic towards him. Sadly he will probably get on the national news in the next few days, hopefully just to get roasted. Likely he'll end up getting a job at a newspaper in DC or NYC, even the star trib would be glad to take him.

I'm not a lawyer, but I did stay at an Holiday Inn express last night. Free speech is not absolute, but this was not even close to being anything criminal. Mr. Gonzalez is 100% protected by the 1st Amendment. Like I said before, people that constantly bring up the 1st Amendment (i.e. Dixie Chicks) do not understand exactly what is protecting them. They are protected from the government, but they are still responsible for their words with the general public. When radio stations refuse to play the Dixie Chicks for what they said, they are not infringing on the Dixie Chicks rights, they are exressing their own Constitutional right to play what they chose. Likewise when Mr. Gonzalez is beaten to a bloody pulp (I seriously hope he is), his 1st Amendment rights will not be violated (some other ones may be but that is another issue).

USCHOThe USCHO board has many expressing their 1st amendment rights. Various people have posted the author's, picture, email, phone numbers, and address. The 1st Amendment protects against gov't action, not against the angry mob that is going to make this idiots life hell for the next couple of months (assuming he lives that long).

Free speech is a good thing, I would never want the gov't stepping in to censure anybody's opinion. At the same time people need to be responsible for their speech. In this case a good ass kicking sounds about right... by the entire AZ Cardinals offensive line.

You didn't look hard enough

I wasn't aware of the Sioux name situation with him, you would think he graduated from Harvard, not Yale. The interim Dean - Zeirdt has similar leanings, but doesn't make them known to everyone. Not sure about the new Dean, he sounds pretty moderate for a law professor. Are you looking for a competent young associate?

Last summer I toured all of the new buildings at SU - some Alumni thing - basically it was like talking to those people trying to sell you time share condo's. NDSU will never get a dime from me, for reasons too long to go into here. Anyway - one building is a new student wellness center. The tech park is a mix of private businesses and school buildings. The idea is to get students to work with these companies. Most are grad students doing various research - in exchange for getting some cheap student labor the companies give NDSU lab time. Look I already said UND is the better school. I learned my lesson and will never attend NDSU again. The med school is very nice, the Union is renovated, but NDSU's is still much nicer. All I'm saying is overall NDSU is expanding and renovating more than UND. Having attended both schools in my opinion, overall, NDSU has much nicer academic facilities. Maybe we should get an independent investigation. PCM - What's up with all the med school weenies, even with a former Sioux running back (as I was told) they were destroyed in the malpractice bowl. Don't even need to mention their hockey team - apparently not a lot of athletes go to med school. No comments on the Office Space picture? The movie is hilarious for those that haven't seen it.

My Grandpa was Dean of Animal and Range sciences, don't go there. Actually the entire AG program is top notch at NDSU. The AG program gave science majors like myself a chance to have plenty of things to cut open. I'm realizing this whole debate is rather dumb, everyone is going to have a different idea of what is "better". My arguments were on facilities, not actual programs. Yes I've seen UND and NDSU's athletic training facilities - sorry but NDSU's are much nicer*, that does not meen the program itself is better, I would have no idea (although it seems Sioux athletes are rarely hurt). Hopefully when the new wellness center is built they include some athletic training rooms. *This was before the new REA was built - if they moved the entire program into the training rooms of the REA I imagine UND would have a step up, actually a few flights up. PCM, I gave credit to UND for its health science facilities. I'm talking overall - facts are SU has better academic facilities. Personally I think they are spending money they don't have, many of their improvements make no sense. Still I don't see any construction on the UND campus. Next time your in Fargo drive behind the dome, most of those building were not there when I graduated (less than 5 years ago).

You would be crazy not to pick a school based on its hockey program. The law school hockey team sucks now, I've heard they were good in the past. The William Mitchell team I was on had 1 former NHL player and 3 former D1 players (counting the NHL player) and 1 professional bandy player that was a better hockey player than anyone. We didn't play UND but beat Hamline and a bunch of teams sponsored by the Ford plant that included several goons from the Iron Range. I was speaking of your hostility towards Mark Brickson and UND Law, not UND hockey.
-
Every school pumps up their salaries. I transferred to UND from William Mitchell, they claim their average salary is $65K. I know of 3 or 4 out of 250+ who started out making that. Davis did not leave because of any problems. He left to take over a program that was trying to get accredited when a student went postal and killed the Dean. It just so happened Davis was good friends with the murdered Dean. As a whole the legal profession is too big, the trend is nationwide, not just at UND. The country is finally figuring out they don't need lawyers for everything. Such hostility towards UND? Why would you attend an institution you dislike? NDSU is a good school that produces many quality graduates, I was just "bangin" its business school which is not a very good program.
-
I always thought of Basil as a UofM grad, he must be a NDSU business grad. I hope you're not in their MBA program - the reason it's so cheep - it's not accredited. No Basil I didn't take your stapler, now leave me alone!

This is good news for SU, I really hope the football team does well, although I still think going D1AA was a bad move. When I saw this on the news (ch.11) the sports guy said "they are shortening the BB period from 13 to 5 years, now we could see the Bison in the NCAA BB tourny in 5 years". I'm still laughing at that comment. When was the last time NDSU was in a DII BB tourny (mens). I hate BB and could care less, but it ticks me off that Irv and some of the other idiots in Fargo tried to sell the idea moving to D1 means they will be in the NCAA tourny. I had season tickets about 10 years ago (actually my dad had them) for Bison hockey when they were going to go D1 (note I'd still be a Sioux hockey fan). Thanks to Irv and Bucky and other idiot Bison officials we got a refund check instead. Looks like Kato is happy things didn't work out.

I think we agree for the most part. Having lived in Fargo much longer than GF I'm not as familar with UND. On the other hand I'm at UND everyday now, although the law school is just one building. Academically speaking I think UND is overall the better school. I still think NDSU easily beats out UND on the facilities. The technology park at NDSU has several new buildings at and around it, most of which are used by NDSU. NDSU has a new wellness center that is very nice (UND's will be better when they build their new one). Overall NDSU has 7-10 buildings built in the last 10 or so years. The best being the new engineering building that has its own state of the art computer lab. Minard was completely renovated, from what I hear it no longer rains inside UND has better parking - something most UND students would find hard to believe. UND falls very far behind in technology - is there even a computer center? Anything health related UND wins easily except pharmacy. NDSU has much more room to expand, and seems to be doing more academically. I still think UND has the better overall programs. It seems like 75% of NDSU students are "business administration" majors (wtf is that anyway?), NDSU's business program sucks - these students are being prepared for a career working at Manpower. Overall UND has better - students, academic programs, athletic programs, athletic facilities. NDSU has better - academic facilities This is my overall picture

Check out this site LINK to see how one of the "toughest" Universities uses SAT scores. This is from Berkley, who decided the SAT is a racist exam that favors white students (no explanation on why Asian students do the best). I'm pretty sure Berkley gives extra admission points to crackheads - it makes for a more well rounded University experience. 21 and 1000 are still around the national average for ACT/SAT scores, I'm sure they are higher in ND and MN, but not much. SAT scores in ND are usually way above average, because most of the people taking them are those planning on going to a major East coast school.

It was a joke. One I suppose we CANNOT use anymore with our own European player coming in next year. I guess we'll just have to rely on his laziness.
-
I believe they are just raising the minimum standards that will result in automatic admission. The U of M had this when I applied their as an undergrad - at that time they use a forumula based on GPA and ACT - averaged out to about 24-25 w/ a 3.2-3.4 if I remember correctly. I imagine the minority of hockey players meet these, as long as they get the NCAA minimum they are let in. I'm sure UND is trying to do something similar. Interestingly UM raided their standards last year because too many students were being automatically admitted, not sure what it is at now, but I'm sure athletes don't have to worry. Look at Vanek, he can't even speak English but he was admitted. As for UND they claim they are trying to increase the # of students, now they are implementing a procedure to decrease the # of students I have a feeling this is just for show, probably to get higher ratings for the University.

I have not heard anything. Sando did have a good year considering he was on the worse team in the USHL - Sioux Falls. 26 pts in 55 games and a -15. The -15 was actually better than most of his teamates, Sioux Falls only won 15 games all year. Next year is already going to be crowded, but a little competition for playing time never hurts.

Commie is the only Sioux alum to make it the 2nd round. Belfour has a chance tonight. The first round was not kind to the rest, Blake, Hale, Johnson, Johnson, Bombadir - I'm assuming I forgot at least one. Who is more likely to bring the Cup to GF? Belfour did it the first time he won it. Commie only played a couple of years, but he has made some nice donations to UND and appears to have liked his time here, would have to think he would bring it. I really want to see Belfour win, but it would be fun to see Ottawa and Phily those two have some bad blood. My $$ is on Calgary for the upset - great goaltending and a couple of players that can get a point a game. Also a decent D core- Leopold is one of the better D men in the NHL. Hard for me to say but I still think he was the best college hockey player the past 10 years.

Do you have your History of Sioux Hockey book or is this off the top of your head? If the latter very impressive. If the former, also impressive you have such a great resource within close reach.

Actually I ment next years Sophomore class, Moorhead's 2004 Bantam A team won state. Last years Sophomore class, next years Junior class was week in comparison, very few made the JV team, none made varsity. WBL had a very good team this year, and probably the best JV team in the state. They and Moorhead along with Centennial will be early favorites for next season. Although we will have to wait and find out who goes USHL. Lee was named captain for Mhd next year and has no plans on leaving. Ammerman and Becker were named alternates. I lived by WBL a couple years ago, they take their hockey seriously up there, even compared to other MN towns, I've never seen a town of that size with that many youth teams.

Jloos, I know your nephew moved with his family, so any accusation of his move being driven by recruiting is false. I apologize if I made it seem there was any impropriety. However, I know how other students-athletes are "recruited" by public schools as well as how the kids are "shopped" around by themselves or with their parents. I have seen first hand methods and strategies. My kid was invited to "try out" with a neighboring school by the head baseball coach. There was an implication that we never investigated. I repeat, I make no accusations toward any of the programs. It's just that we continue to hear the same schools every year who have open enrolled players on their rosters. This makes for lop-sided hockey games with talent being concentrated in a few schools. Just curious, are there any open-enrolled hockey players from the smaller surrounding communities who tried out for Moorhead that the coach did not select for the final team? That would dispell, to a certain degree, the belief that hockey players are promise a spot (recruited) if they come "on their own".

Well, I believe WF junior high is out by now, when you get home, get on your parents computer and check out this site. NDHSAA and search their past publications, they are in PDF form so I cannot cut and paste it here. You will find the board minutes where Shanley requests to play NDHS hockey. You will also see the reason for their motion was because WF chose to end the co-op. Squirt coach - Moorhead did NOT recruit any players. Cory choose on his own to try out and made the team, he was not approached by any MHD staff nor was he guaranteed a spot on the roster. Same goes for their goalie from Alex - he used MN's open enrollment rule and moved in w/ his sister and tried out just like the rest of the players.
