I found this interview transcript between Junior Lessard and PCM. If Junior does win I look forward to him trying to give his acceptance speach. PCM- Hi, Patrick C. Miller again. Junior, I know that some in our audience don't know the finer points of hockey. Could you tell them, what is icing? JL- Icing happen when the puck come down, bang, you know, before the other guys, nobody there. The ref arm go comes up, then the game stop, then start up. PCM- I see. What is high-sticking? JL- High-sticking happen when the guy take the stick, and he go like that. You don't do that. PCM- You don't do that? JL- Oh, no, never, never. PCM- Why not? JL- Against the rules. You know, you're stupid when you do that. Just some English pig with no brains, you know. PCM- Uh, what is slashing? JL- Slashing is....like that, you know. PCM- Mmmmm, hmmmm. And....there's a penalty for that? JL- Yeah. And for trip also, you know, like that. And for hook like this. And for spear like that. All bad. You do that, you go to the box, you know. Two minutes by yourself, and you feel shame, you know. PCM- Mmmmm Hmmmm JL- And then you get free. PCM- The Bulldogs are in Boston next week against for the Frozen Four. Good seats are still available. PCM- I think that went really well.

Saddly Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure both died with Phil Hartman. Mr. Simpson, this is the most blatant case of fraudulent advertising since my suit against the film, "The Never-Ending Story". Homer: So. Do you think I have a case? Hutz: Homer, I don't use the word "hero" very often, but you are the greatest hero in American history. Homer: Woo hoo! Hutz: Now don't you worry, Mrs. Simpson, I - uh-oh. We've drawn Judge Snyder. Marge: Is that bad? Hutz: Well, he's kind of had it in for me, since I accidently ran over his dog. Actually, replace `accidently' with `repeatedly', and replace `dog' with `son'. Hi I'm actor Troy McClure. You might remember me from such educational films as "Lead Paint: Delicious But Deadly," and "Here Comes the Metric System!"

from Hockeyfights.com 03/30/2004 New York Rangers Garth Murray New Jersey Devils David Hale 2 pd 02:06 Comments: Camera gets there late. Murray comes up high on Hale some time after he gets rid of the puck. They talk a bit, then drop em. Both throw about three, not much landing. Murray tackles Hale hard to the ice at the end. I think Parise meant if UND was not upset the Devils would not want him this year as the playoffs already started -he still would have gone in the fall. Interesting thought - with ZP leaving, next season their will be no brothers on the Sioux. When was the last time this happened? Without looking anything up I go back to the Hoogsteens. I saw the U17 team play, but Zach Jones wasn't playing, he wasn't even listed on the roster. Not sure if he was hurt or joined the team late.
-
Second that. This isn't basketball, one player cannot win a championship for a team. ZP was the most complete hockey player I've seen at the college level. It would be interesting to see ZP's +/- stats. Hopefully there is an NHL next season so ZP can have a shot at the Calder.
-
Unless Jones or Greene leave early I would be surprised to see Beaverson next season. As far as recruiting someone to fill ZP's spot - there is still more players coming in than leaving. Plus look at the quality players coming back who didn't play every night - Massen, Canady. Basically the Sioux lose 3 forwards and have 3 forwards coming next season, plus 3 or 4 forwards that will watch from the stands. The number of 05/06 signees is kind of scary, these kids are so young, it is hard to say what will happen. Look at Beaverson, he was signed young and does not appear to be developing as expected. Lee and Chorney both look very promising. Oshie and Duncan didn't impress me much, but I only saw them play a few times. Can anybody remember having 4 players signed 2 years out?

Wasn't Zeek the name of one of the gay redneck rapists in Pulp Fiction?
-
ZP was the only Sioux player that was a #1 prospect for an NHL team. If any other players leave I think it would be 100% their choice, and they would most likely subject themselves to playing next season in the AHL. Greene, Jones, and Schneider are not even the top D prospect for their respective NHL teams. BB is a ways down the list on a very talented Ottawa team. I would be very surprised if anyone else left, if they did wait until next fall like Martin I would lose all respect for that person, as they leave their coach and team in a crappy situation.
-
I think pretty much everyone is in agreement that ZP going pro is good for him. He, more than any player I've seen, seems to have a good head on his shoulders and is aware of the pro's and con's and made an informed decision. I hope he gets guaranteed $$ - if he ends up in the AHL he'll most likely wish he stayed in college with the bus rides low pay and goon playing style.
-
I don't know of many NHL players that would mess with Gionta What does that wink mean? I think what PCM and some others are saying about the physical play ZP has received, is not that he is going to the NHL to get rid of it, but he is going to the NHL because he doesn't want to tear up his knee, shoulder etc... and miss his chance. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Taking Parise was good for the program because of the publicity and the fact UND had the best player in the country for 2 years. The day he signed with the Sioux I think every realist knew he would not stay 4 years, I expect DB knew this and planned accordingly. What can hurt a program is when a player up and leaves in the middle of the season or right before the season starts. I'm still a little surprised ZP will leave at this time - he has a lot of reasons to stay - playing w/ his brother and SSM friends, winning a NC, winning HB (he could still win). That with the uncertainty of the NHL makes me think the Devils are either: 1. Telling him there will be an NHL next season and/or 2. Throwing a lot of money at him.
-
Devils did sign an underclassman last week. Looks like they need a goon. I hope if ZP does sign he has some assurances he will not get lost in the AHL like Roche, Goren, Lundbohm, Panzer and many others. The Devils have been much better than other teams about giving college players a chance. They have to have one of the biggest US born rosters in the NHL. I just heard the last 5 min of the interview. Blais made it sound like he expects ZP to go and supports that decision. The only way I would think he is making a bad decision going would be the uncertainty of the NHL next season. I think ZP would rather play for the Sioux than bussing around the NorthEast playing against teams like the River Rats. Red Berenson had an interesting interview yesterday - he is against anyone leaving early - he said he expects his players to stay 4 years. I see his point but I would think MI may lose some prospects that keep the option of going pro open, knowing their coach wouldn't support them. I think it's classy that Blais supports his players and will encourage them to make the decision best suited for them.

I was just looking at NJ's site for any possible news, didn't find any, but found this interesting: Tallackson, Barry Minnesota, WCHA 6-4 195 RW R Grafton, ND 04/14/1983 I didn't know Tallackson was born in ND, that makes 4 ND born players on the Gophers this year.

Some people have forgot how difficult it is to win the NC, 4 years? Before 97 it was 10!. I don't the the Sioux will go down as chokers - ended the regular season by sweeping UMD to win the McNaughton Cup. There have been many good teams that did not win the NC, look to 1997 - that MI team was probably the best college hockey team in the last 10-15 years, but BU upset them, then the Sioux beat BU. I remember calling MI classless for saying the best team didn't win the NC. Last nights game was very frustrating to watch, the missed nets, too many passes, nobody going to the net. That is how the Sioux have played all year, they have relied on talented forwards for the pretty goal instead of crashing the net for a Vanek/Potulny like goal. It seemed to work though, this was the first time the Sioux were shutout since 2001 Losing to a hot goalie is a tough way to lose, but PCM is right on - no excuses, it's time to chear on the other WCHA teams or whoever else, then look to next season. Go Bulldogs, I hope they can win their first NC, they have a great program and it would be nice to see someone other than UND, UM, BC, MI, or ME win.
-
ND D-man stopped the crossing pass with his glove knocking it down right in the crease, then he stubbled giving Vanek an easy goal. ND has very slow D, but their forwards are pretty talented. The Gophs are dominated in shots, but scoring chances are not that one-sided. ND has missed a few breakaways and other point blank chances. The Gophers depth is too much, I see ND fading away in the 3rd - 5-2 final. I hope I'm wrong.

In the West, I'm anti Catholic in the East! Go Niagra! Does Lucia have a bunch of neck braces in his closet to color coordinate?
-
On a goal by Fargo North Grad Cory McLean. Half way in and there is already half a dozen penalties. Wish the Sioux woud crash the net like the Gophs are. If they keep this up the ND goalie will be puking by the end of the first period.
-
ND up 1-0 less than 1 min in on a goal by Fargo North grad Cory McLean! Looks like we tied

They made the comment before the game started The color guy at least knew the players names - his name was Paradise, wasn't their a Paradise at CC and one at SCSU a few years back? The play by play guy was terrible, couldn't pronounce players names, had numbers messed up. Anyone familiar with College hockey, not just Sioux fans, would agree what a stupid comment about ZP that was. I also noticed the references to the American Hockey Conferance, the color guy knew what he was talking about some of the time, the play by play guy was terrible. ESPN must hide these idiots in its basement until its time for college hockey or the spelling bee coverage.

A few thoughts JP and ZP are co MVP's if Blais was putting JP in just to get some experience, he has to at least consider putting him in tonight. The Sioux offense was good, 3 or 4 pipes, several great saves by HC. The Sioux D was very average, bad outlet passes, too many turnovers, and they gave the blue line way too many times. HC executed a very good game, they were fundamentaly the best team I've seen this year. They were always in position, they slowed down the game by clogging the passing lanes and neutral zone. The Sioux should have dumped and chased more, their forecheck was clearly superior, many times the Sioux forward was there before the HC D. The HC goalie had an interesting style - keeping the Sioux forwards at bay by vomiting all over the crease....interesting. Best comment of the night: Idiot announcer #1 - That Zach Parise is not a very flashy player, you don't notice him out there, but he ends up with a bunch of points at the end of the night. Idiot announcer #2 - That's right, he isn't a player you notice on the ice, but he seems to come out with points every night. I seriously thought they were joking, I was laughing before I realized they were serious, then I was just pissed If ZP is not a "flashy" player would someone point out to me who is?

Roche played two seasons 99-00 and 00-01.
-
Could he even play in the playoffs? Don't teams have to have their playoff roster set in advance? I couldn't see Suter leaving this year, I can't remember the last time a freshman left to play in the NHL (Kariya?) Even Heatley stayed around for 2 years. What would be the point in going to college for one year, frankly I don't see the point for going any less than 3 years. I understand some develop faster than others, but if a player is looking for an pro fast track - it's called Major Juniors.

I'll try and send the link around to my fellow law students, or at least to Profs. Lee and Lockney, I'm sure they were around in the early 70's.

Poch and Danis are both seniors so you can't really blame them for defecting.
