  1. They've been begging for my services. But after being shafted for the head and assistant coaching positions I told them to screw off. I'll just use my expertise for posting on internet discussion forums.

    WCHA standings

    2. Wisconsin 3. Minny 4. Duluth 5. MI Tech They have some scoring. A few good D-man. A goalie that is capable of winning games and a good incoming class by Tech standards. This is still an off the wall pick, but I do see them getting better the next couple of years. 6. CC 7. Denver 8. Cloud 9. Kato 10. AA - I see them coming close to their winless record a few years ago. WI and UND should be the top two teams. WI has a very loaded roster. After that it is a crapshoot. The Gophers were hit hard with departures, but like usual have a strong incoming class. Plus if Potulny stays healthy he should put up good numbers. Duluth, CC and Denver are all about in the same boat IMO, Duluth and Denver lost the most. Denver lost the most, but always does better than they should. I see these three fighting for for the middle, although all have a chance at 3rd. I really don't think Tech will finish 5th, but I think they could with their roster. Plus if they actually do well, I can go back to this post and pretend I know what I'm talking about. Cloud should have be good in net, which can win games. But man do they look crappy after that. Kato should be better than last year. They can't get any worse. AA is going to be terrible. What few good players they had last year are all gone. Alaska is a beautiful place to visit, but I can't blame people for not wanting the 10 hour plane rides every other weekend.
  3. Note to NDSU: On your way home from CO, open up the plane doors at about 25,000 feet. Through your starting QB and kicker out. Problem solved. Seriously the game yesterday was probably the ugliest football game I've ever seen. Both teams were terrible on offense. At least CO had a kicker and NDSU had a freshman QB that could play. Otherwise they would still be playing OT trying to break the 0-0 tie. As far as the Sioux go - weak competition? Mesa state beat the Sioux last year and were a playoff team. Montana Tech plays in the same league as teams like Valley City and Dickinson. NDSU could bring out the South JV team and beat them. It is getting harder for me to like Bison Football. The program has been on a downward slide the last 10 or so years. What a great time to move up a division - when your team is going into the crapper. The Sioux are playing it right. If they do move up to DIAA they will bring a winning program that has been building into a DII powerhouse. I think leagues like the Big Sky will be more impressed with a program that has played in several championship games the past 5 years than a team that still brags about their championships from the 1980's.
  4. Umm no he didn't. At least not officially. NHL signings
  5. Commie! I think goon was referring to TC transplant not Wpos.

    World Cup

According to ESPN Paul Martin is the Prime Minister of Canada. That explains why he was a scratch for last nights game. I'm suprised Gopher fans haven't been bragging about this. ESPN Article (you need to click on the link provided for Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin)
  7. After realizing they are not going to get signed, both Vanek and Bochenski will be forced to play in the Bulgarian Hockey League for 500 rubles a month.

    World Cup

The US opens the World Cup tonight at Montreal. I just saw Paul Martin replaced Leopold on the roster. This may be the only time we see NHL players this year. On that note when do the Wild-Pens tickets go on sale? I don't want to buy tickets until I know there is going to be a game. I'm sure ticketmaster will refund the tickets, minus all the fees they rake in.

    Elite HS Games

How about using this thread for continued talk about non Sioux related elite league games. Halstenson is off the Great Plains roster. If there are any injuries I think Christian should be considered to fill in. He didn't play HS last year, but his talent is at or above most of the players on the roster. Weisgarber would also be a good addition. Too bad Cory Johnson and Brett Barta from Moorhead are both playing football, they would be nice additions to the team.
  10. Why would the local paper increase its coverage of NDSU because they moved up a level? I understand the increased coverage for the first games, but after that I'm not following. Ziegler through out many terms like "powerhouse" "national sports scene" and "major universities". I admit I am no football expert, actually hockey is the only sport I follow closely, but as far as I can tell there is very little difference between DII and D1-AA. Besides being on the crawler of ESPN News, there is very little more media exposure. From what I recall ESPN broadcasts the title games in DIII, DII, and D1-AA, and shows nothing else from these leagues. If anything the NDSU showed how D1-AA has no better competition than DII, Valpo won their conferance last season and had a winning record. The only sport I see having an immediate impact is wrestling. I agree it appears moving up is probably the best thing for NDSU, and UND will eventually have to move, much like DII hockey it appears the rest of DII is dying out. But to call UND the minor leagues is a bush league cheap-shot that even the Bison fans have to agree is not backed up. As far as major universities - give me a break. A few close schools may schedule NDSU as a pre-season punching bag, but other than that don't expect many "major" universities on NDSU's schedule. For sure these teams will not be traveling to Fargo. I think NDSU will become a good football team at the AA level, but I fail to see how that changes from being a good team at the II level. I know I'm biased, but I still think UND hockey is the only "major" sport in the state of ND.
  11. It says groups of 1-4. I can be there at 8:00 on Fri, but I have 4 hours of class on fri (which isn't supposed to happen my 3rd year ). Maybe I can get behind you guys in line and keep me and my wife's registration cards there. I can get back in line Fri afternoon/evening and again Sat morning. I can't pay for anyone else's ticket, but I may be able to by you a grinder assuming the RP will be there again.
  12. I wish they would have a separate process for professional students, or students too old to sit outside and drink at 8:00am Any nice undergrad students want to give me a spot in their group?
  13. Which of his three seasons wasn't good?
  14. Funny indeed, I also read that they reported he had signed and emailed the editors at five when I left work. I just told them that once again the were propagating a myth and may want to check their facts. This isn't the first.. tenth or last time they'll do this. Is USCHO owned by USA Hockey or the Inquirer? I get my real news from INCH. Sorry PCM, no hard feelings.
  15. My problem was with the half dozen or so HS topics that popped up that were in no way connected to Sioux hockey. Like I said above this elite tourny is one of the biggest college hockey recruiting tournys in the country. DMT is always angry about something, I'm used to it. I think it is from all the crack he smoked in high school.
  16. Hofer among others want to leave after Loos, Halstenson, and possibly Oakland are bolting. I can't blame them, but come on, North was terrible the last few years, they do not have that many kids that can play at that caliber. Hofer is a nice kid, I know the family well, but he is not that good of a hockey player. He scored maybe 5 or 6 goals last season, probably ended up with 10-15 points. Remember Jacques Lamourioux struggled with Bismarck last year despite being a fairly large kid and scoring at least 40-50 points in HS the year before. I know the HS stuff irritates some on the board but it appears most of the kids that were messing around on here are gone. Last year the elite tourny was discussed a lot, as many Sioux recruits play in it, plus they stop at the REA for a weekend. If others still don't like it, say so and I'll move my post to the community board, if I can figure out how to do that. Driscol, reading HS hockey posts turns you on? Or does watching hot chicks trying on panties annoy you? I'll gladly take your dressing room monitoring shift if you don't want it. PS what's with dropping DMT off of your last quote? He needs all the credit he can get.
  17. I didn't see the other thread until after I posted this. The teams are tentative, but I don't expect to see many changes. Halstenson will not play if he made the Bobcats, which I'm assuming he did. Oakland was trying out for the Jets, but I don't think they've given him a spot yet. He bowed out of the elite program to play with the Jets but he can still play for North. Kluckey is the alternate listed, but he is a better player than 3/4 of the team. He was out most of last season after getting stepped on by a skate. Driscol aren't you supposed to be monitoring teenage girls trying on panties.
  18. The MN Elite tourny changed the way they do things a little bit this year. They kept all the Moorhead players together and put them on the ND team. Here is the roster: Great Plains (MN/ND) Head Coach: Dave Christian Elliott Okland G ND 11 Beau Christian G Moorhead, MN 11 Calab Luecke D Fargo South, ND 12 Jon Halstenson D Fargo, ND 12 Jon Ammerman D Moorhead, MN 12 Kyle Hardwick D Warroad, MN 12 Brian Lee D Moorhead, MN 12 Matt Hill D ND 12 Eric Olimb D Warroad, MN 12 Sam Aide F Bismarck, ND 12 Paul Campbell F Grafton, ND 11 Rody Selk F Minot, ND 11 Jordan Willert F Minot, ND 11 Matt Becker F Moorhead, MN 12 Ryan Clukey ALT Moorhead, MN 12 Cory Loos F Moorhead, MN 12 Chris VandeVelde F Moorhead, MN 12 Mark Mihulka F ND 11 Derek Kuntz F Grand Forks, ND 12 Jake Stadstad F Grand Forks, ND 12 Alec Holen F Thief River Falls, MN 12 Dustin Postel F Wadena, MN 12 Joe Harren F Warroad, MN 12 TJ Oshie F Warroad, MN The only player I've never heard of is Matt Hill, where is he from? I was very suprised to see Wiesgarber left off the team and Lueke added to the team. This team should be very fun to watch, with 3 future Sioux players on it. They will be at the REA on October 16, & 17 Here is the schedule Saturday, October 16, 2004 9:00am: Northeast vs. Great Plains 12:30pm: Team Wisconsin vs. Southwest 7:00pm: Great Plains vs. Team Wisconsin 7:00pm: Northeast vs. Southwest Sunday, October 17, 2004 11:00am: Southwest vs. Great Plains 11:00am: Northeast vs. Team Wisconsin

But this season hasn't started yet - so this season is actually next season until this season (or next) actually starts. Yes the Sioux will have to recruit a goalie for the 05/06 season. Unless they designate another player to put on the pads in case of injury.
  20. I haven't seen Hardwick play much so I can't really say much about him. I watched as many Moorhead games as I could, but most of them were either lopsided 12-0 games or a football game on ice (Alex). Against the weak competition Lee impressed me more, his stickhandling is among the best I've seen. The few games I saw against tough competition were on TV (I just looked their closest home game was a 5-1 win over Alex). Why didn't he make the U-18 team this year. I found it strange that they gave Lee a spot even though he had a concussion and didn't participate in the select 17 tourny, yet didn't select Ammerman who was also on the U-17 team. I agree Duluth should be a good fit for him. Hopefully he and a couple others from Moorhead will be in the WCHA in the next couple of years.
  21. I didn't mean to imply Ammerman will not play in the WCHA, just that he will not play right out of high school. He is a very good player, but MN is very deep in defensemen his age. I think both Hardick and Ammerman will go to UMD, but I don't see Ammerman going until 06 unless Duluth is really hurting at D. Duluth is also looking at some other Moorhead players. Like usual Duluth is trying to follow UND.
  22. I took it to mean, Ammerman's stock is not as high as some on here think and he is not being sought after by several schools. I tend to agree, he is a good player, but much of his success has come from playing with Lee. He will likely have to spend a year or two in the USHL before any WCHA schools look at him. But then again I would say the same thing about Vandeveldie so who knows.

    Walk-ons

Foyt looked ok against some weak competition. Bina had some up and downs like every freshman, but I thought he overall played really well. His skating and puckhandling skills are among the best I've seen in WCHA defensemen. His size hurts him and his defensive positioning needs work. I think Bina earned his playing time over Foyt, regardless of any scholarships.
  24. I thought I wasn't a target until I realized I used an email address I rarely check when I signed up last time. Just checked it for the first time in a couple weeks and I have over 50 of these emails from the SOB. Do you need just one or should I forward all of them to you? You will be posting the name and address of the person responsible, right? * I suppose you are looking for this part - Is that your IP address or his IP address? 25. My question is - what is a hockey player doing taking organic chemistry?
