  1. But what does that even mean? Well-positioned in what sense? Don't get me wrong, they are still in an enviable position compared to a large majority of the FCS, but he needs to say something to placate the die-hards and try to keep interest up. Season ticket waitlist has long past evaporated and their will be quite a few more empty seats than past years in the dome. Guessing if Chaves would be asked the same question, he would say UND continues to monitor the ever-changing landscape and will evaluate any opportunities that are presented. Neither one of what those AD's says can change the geography of the schools nor the limited recruiting and TV market they have, both of which are huge drivers in any conference realignment.
  2. Rutgers football is pretty terrible as well but they still managed to get in (fully understand it was because they could then force the B1G channel on the NY/NJ cable market). Kansas can at least bring basketball to the table, I wouldn't rule them out.
  3. It eliminated any chance she had at the indivdual all-around and event finals and effectively ended her career with a vault which ended up not mattering despite her coach insisting to her that the team needed it. He then handed her off to Larry Nassar afterwards. I also don't think she could have had a replacement step in for her like Biles did since she had already taken her first vault. She did what she was told she needed to and it was an amazing feat to land that vault with the injury she had, but looking back doesn't give the same warm fuzzies it did 25 years ago.
  4. I'm just not going to criticize her for making the choice that actually got her team on the podium. I guess you can call her a quitter if you want, but don't pretend that making that choice didn't put them in a better position to compete given what level of performance she was showing.
  5. If you can't perform, you can't perform whether it be mental or physical. Based on her vault attempt, she couldn't handle it at that point in time. I guess you can criticize her mental toughness if you want, but you don't become arguably the most talented gymnast of all-time being weak-minded. She at least gave her teammates a shot at the podium since she wasn't a top 3 option for the remaining events and pretending to be one does nothing but hurt the team. She was in a no win situation, if she tries to tough it out and bombs every attempt (which she already had shown was very probable), she still gets criticized for playing "hero ball" and not trusting her teammates (feel like there's already been some of that criticism somewhere else already....)
  6. Counterpoint - If she competed in the 3 remaining events, USA doesn't even medal. She couldn't even execute a much simpler vault than she was going to originally attempt, scoring her worst score in years on a vault she can normally do in her sleep. A 15.183 in qualifications vs. a 13.766 in the finals. Run that drop in score over 3 more events and they don't make the podium.
  7. Likely because they have had very little time playing together, especially when compared to some of the other countries. Didn't 3 of the players fly in just a day or two before the game?
  8. Feeney is listed at 6'2" 195lbs (from his senior roster and carried through to other sites) Payton is listed at either 6'2.5" or 6'3", and anywhere between 205 and 2015lbs, depending on which website you want to believe. His senior roster had him at 6'3", 205lbs I'd also be curious what you mean by "The only kid he has lost"? Are you talking just to UND?
  9. Not bad, but you have some room to improve before you can become a grand master at restaurant reviews: https://www.grandforksherald.com/lifestyle/food/7115229-EatBeat-House-of-Punjab-brings-Indian-food-to-in-Grand-Forks
  10. #swag
  11. If it it was rigged, Hawks wouldn't have won. The bigger problem was the consultants and their galaxy brain discovery of urban dictionary during the review phase. Whatver, what's done is done.
  12. Not an engineer and its a fair question because I've wondered (and heard) various things on it, but you have to assume there is a builder's risk involved and if it needed to be replaced, it would be required before any reputable firm would touch it again. Unless it has changed, PCL Construction is the firm overseeing the construction management and they aren't exactly a mom and pop shop (among plenty of other sizable project, the Rogers Place, home of the Edmonton Oilers, is in their portfolio).
  13. Looks like both were actually only owed $10 million over the next 4 years, so for them, getting $6.7 million with a chance to sign another contract right isn't too bad of a deal. In return, they will get paid over 8 years instead of 4. Large reduction in cap hit for the Wild for the upcoming year ($5.2 million on each contract). Then they get a little relief the following year ($1.2 million each), roughly a wash the next 2 years ($167K savings each) and then smaller hits for the following 4 years that wouldn't have been there ($833K each).
  14. It sounds like Boise State assumed the contract that UND had with UW. Still a nice payday and UND doesn't have to go searching for a game.
  15. If they really wanted him gone, they would have flat out non-renewed him. Will be interesting as more details come out on it. Apparently he might not even make it that extra 6 months as it states he's actually done if a replacement can start before that timeframe.
  16. He really showed them by <checks notes> getting a 6 month extension. Going to take the SBoHE a long time to recover from that one!
  17. Was just referring to the 4 on the road in a row in the middle of the season (Jan 20/22/27/29) and the three at home to finish the season (Feb 17/19/26). Otherwise they are alternating home and away series.
  18. https://fightinghawks.com/news/2021/6/16/womens-basketball-summit-league-announces-basketball-schedules.aspx They actually did it!! Games on Thursday/Saturday and mirror scheduling. NDSU is the first and last game of the conference schedule. SDSU is on New Year's Day (Saturday) Pretty even in terms of travel. Only instance of back to back away weekends (ORU/UMKC and then SDSU/USD) Three in a row at home to end the season (UMKC/ORU/NDSU).
  19. Not like there are zero options and great to have another but: there is Casa de Mexico in EGF and El Gordito in the Columbia Mall. Plus in the summer there is Melissa's Mobile Cocina (formerly L&C Mexican Food). And of course you Norwegian Mexican food at Paradiso and Mexican Village.
  20. Hardly. Anyone who was paying attention absolutely knew UND WIH was in significant danger of being cut due to huge budget constraints at UND and across the state. Just because the head coach choose to ignore it doesn't mean everyone else did as well. There were literal forums about how to handle the budget shortfall, including what sports were going to have to be cut.
  21. EWU and Montana both owe UND home games. UND was supposed to host EWU two seasons ago but switched hosting years with EWU since UND was already in Montana for a Friday game (they played on a Sunday). UT Rio might owe UND a home game as well. 2019/20 would have been the only year that I can tell (though there were a few with only 1). They were supposed to have two last season but Seattle fell through at the last minute and the aforementioned EWU game. Without a doubt, the home schedule has left a lot to be desired. I've also heard Sather stress the importance of having D1 games at home, so hoping he's able to get that done.
  22. Legitimately curious what the bar for "decent" is.
  23. Athletic department is preparing to operate this fall under the premise that things will be as they were in terms of capacity and events.
  24. They are tough to find and there were a few misses. I think the two young guys that are coming up have the size and agility to be successful at the NG position once they get some experience. Might be trial by fire this fall though.
