NDSU to move to FBS with an invite from the Sun Belch?
jdub27 replied to SiouxVolley's topic in NCAA News
Is the misspelling an silent fist bump to the %gobc? -
I wouldn't either, but he likely came in with knowing that there was a decent chance he wasn't going to play his first 2-3 years with both Mollberg and Bartels on the roster. That hasn't really changed except it looks like he's now going to get some game action this year that wasn't expected. These injuries likely have thrown a serious wrench in the coaches timeline for the QB's going forward but it may end up clearing the picture up in the long run.
-
If he doesn't pass Mollberg or Bartels on the depth chart next year and isn't going to play, why wouldn't he use a red-shirt year? I believe people are pointing out that if he plays this year, it doesn't mean he only has 3 years left, it means he still has 4 years of eligibility to play 3 more years.
-
My take: Since he played in competition this year, he will need to get it approved and has to apply for it. He would meet all the criteria to get it if he is unable to return, but the NCAA still needs to grant it. Nothing is guaranteed with those clowns.
-
I'm assuming that they are assuming Bartels could be out for multiple games if not the rest of them if pulling Studsrud's shirt is being considered at this point. If he's not where they want him to be, he can always redshirt next year. Will be interesting to see if this has any impact on the QB's they are recruiting.

UND did not fund the Betty outside of the land that it sits on. The Ralph and the Betty are both owned by the non-profit "UND Sports Facilities Inc". The balance sheet from the tax return for this entity shows a loan balance of $3.5 million dollars at the end of 2013, which is what remains from what was used to fund the building of the Betty (as a non-profit the tax returns are publicly viewable online). The repayment for that comes out of operations of the two buildings. I've also heard Jody speak and he confirmed this is how it works as well. As previously stated, UND is typically not able to take out loans to fund facilities and would have needed to have all funds in place and then approval from the SBoHE and legislature before beginning the project. They were able to skip that step because of it being built "outside" of UND's overseeing.

I'm wondering if it isn't the almost 12,000 seat arena next door. Not a fan of it but could very well be what the plan is (scheduling issues aside).
-
You have a point on the first part, but it has been multiple decades since the state spent significant funds on a sports facility for UND or NDSU. The last one the state paid for in Fargo was in 1970 (Bison Sports Arena) and it has taken NDSU over a decade to raise the funds for the remodel of it. If you made a list similar to UND's on who owns their facilities, it would be pretty similar to UND's, either city owned or done by the state decades ago with any recent renovations funded by donations.

I'm a season ticket holder for two sports and an alumni and haven't received one yet. Why am I not important?!
-
Actually no you didn't. Seems pretty cut and dry to me what you said. Maybe not what you meant, but definitely not what originally implied. And what was your specific example? The only building I can think of off the top of my head that was taken down in recent memory was the Old Ralph. And while there are a lot of memories in that building, taking it down for the IPF was the right choice and it is not even close.
-
The booster money behind those schools is in a completely different universe than what UND deals with.
-
So are you saying it is or isn't standard operating procedure at UND to tear down buildings? Or just another baseless assumption/accusation similar to them taking all the student tickets away? Seems like you read between a lot of lines that aren't there.
-
Hyslop and Memorial are still both used quite a bit. Memorial got new turf and some updates to the locker room (that will be moved to the IPF) within the last few years. No clue if its anywhere near financially feasible, but renovating the Hyslop for basketball would be great and give the Betty to the VB team.
-
That isn't what you said though: If it is standard operating procedure, then I'd assume there are multiple examples of this. I'm asking what buildings you were talking about because I can't really come up with any.
-
From what I understand: UND got approximately 2,500 that went to the Champions Club. Each of the schools that make it there will get something like a 500 ticket allotment. Using those numbers, there should have been around 500 left though I'm not sure if the student tickets came out of UND's allotment or there were additional tickets that went to them.
-
Champions Club got roughly half of tickets (2,500 or so). Very curious to how full those SRO sections are going to be.
-
What buildings are you referring to? Please don't say the old Ralph.
-
Not a fan of it and hope it doesn't come to it, but if necessary, I agree with this. It isn't fair to the rest of the players, especially the seniors who stuck with the program, to not put the players on the field that give you the best chance to win. Lifting Studsrud's redshirt this doesn't mean he couldn't redshirt next year or future year if necessary. If he isn't quite at the point where they had hoped, he could redshirt next year behind the two QB's who will be juniors.

I'd be pretty damn upset and embarrassed if I was a USD fan and had a coach giving interviews like that.
-
I think a better question is why would Joe Glenn make that comment in a post-game press conference regardless?

5dimes pre-game line: SUU -5 (-120) / -210 moneyline UND +5 (-120) / +160 moneyline O/U 43 (-120) My prediction UND moneyline + the under

Apparently one beat writer out of Terre-Haute is now the whole Indiana St media and speaks for all the schools. It'd carry a lot more weight if it came from one of the basketball/private schools, the ones who have no desire to add another football driven school. And the SIU play by play guy definitely disagrees with his feelings so not sure where the traction among the schools thing comes from. -
Price was still the same at Valley Dairy late tonight. Well see how long until their prices move up.
-
Pretty sure they've had a table set up near the "Kid Zone" thing by one of the escalators in the past.

You may end up being surprised.
