I'm not quite so sure that's how the ticket revenues for UND athletics is handled. UND reported over $4 million in ticket revenues for 2013. If the REA was getting that and then giving UND a cut, UND wouldn't be able to report it like that. I believe that for UND events, they contract with the REA to handle that ticket sales, season tickets, etc. The money given to UND at the end of the year are proceeds from other events and concessions that the REA does outside of handling UND's tickets.

And the Torii Hunter Era: Part Deux is off to a rousing start!

You're actually incredibly close, I forgot that the Ticketmaster fees were that high and didn't take into account what the students pay. As sad as it is, I actually had a breakdown of the cost of regular season tickets. They vary depending on opponent, non-conference, Friday/Saturday, etc. Total retail cost before fees (not counting playoff series) this year would have been $845 for 22 games, averaging out to a little over $38/game.
-
That'd be what it is if they sold them as season tickets. If they left them as single game tickets, you can roughly double it. No clue what their plan is either way. Edit: Actually looks like there is 412 seats in Section 310 (section from the students). $165,000 at $20/game (season tickets) or around double that if sold as single game tickets.

It's going to effect athletic department budgets across the board. And it is money that has to come from somewhere. Which is why being realistic about coaches being fired and things of that nature is kind of important.
-
It will be voted on by the membership and be allowable by all D-1 members when it passes. Title IX implications also apply so it must be done equally on the men's and women's side.
-
So it isn't just "Its the Dance or nothing that matters."? Just curious, if Jones were to be fired, what kind of coach do you think they'd be able to get with the current budget the MBB has? And if your answer is to pay another coach more money, where exactly is that money going to come from? UND is going to be seeing a large jump in expenses the next few years with the new "full cost of attendance" rule that will be voted on and that money needs to come from somewhere as well.* *This is going to have a larger impact than people realize across the board. %GOBC insight on this one.

Nope, never said that. You're the one that said "Its the Dance or nothing that matters.", not me.
-
You're playing both sides. OOC has nothing to do with making the dance (though it does have an effect on seeding if they were to make it). Yet you say its the Dance or nothing. The only way UND will ever get to the Dance is to win the Big Sky tournament.

Mid-majors rebuild, especially low mid-majors. Kansas and Duke?? Are you serious? UND's basketball budget is currently around $1 million. Kansas's is about $8.5 million. Duke's is over $14 million. But yeah, they reload so maybe we should try to do that. The difference in talent pool in the area for women's basketball and men's basketball is huge as well. Makes a big difference.

Disagree. Hunter is not an upgrade in the outfield. Moving Arcia to left doesn't help anything either, especially since Willingham only played 53 games in the outfield last year, so he's not really the one being replaced. Though Willingham has long been an issue in left field with his knees. My problem is that DH is the only spot that he might be worth a portion of what they gave him, though doubtful the Twins will admit it and pull him from the outfield. Again, I guess they are paying him so the casual fan can feel warm and fuzzy about bringing him back and they aren't going to come close to spending their full budget so it doesn't really hurt anything in payroll, just blocks some younger guys from getting playing time. The "clubhouse guy" narrative is already being played up. Not sure how Hunter has the media wrapped around his finger, but he's far from the guy they make him out to be. Twins Daily: Aaron Gleeman:

With how his skills have diminished, he's going to have to get off to a pretty good start at the plate to be worth anything. Even if they do trade him, no way they will get anything other than minor league fill-ins, it will be a cost saving move. Outside of last year, Mauer's be worth near what he's been paid. Hunter won't come near being a $10 million player (which is roughly what Mauer was last year).

Not bad company to be in. -
Looks like Hammon is headed to SMU. Sounds like he had quite a few FBS offers along with a UND and NDSU offer. Can't blame a kid for wanting to go back and play at the FBS level in his home state.

Fangraphs has his play valued at less than $2 million last year. He still has some pop left, but his defense has fallen off so much that it more than negates anything he does at the plate. Overall, he was barely above a replacement level player as an everyday player. And you don't give someone that kind of money to sit on the bench. This will end up clogging up the DH spot. Plus, he's not the clubhouse guy the media makes him out to be. Terry Ryan and Co. are likely thinking that this will please the casual fan. Unfortunately, I think they may be right: Big name (plus glory days kicker) + big contract = progress in the eye of the casual fan. I'd probably be more concerned if they actually were bumping up against their payroll limit but they have come near that in the last few years. And it's a one year deal, at least they didn't lock him in any longer.

1 year/$10.5 million. Terrible.

So has every single one of Hakstol's teams, which is kind of the point. You can't win it all if you don't make the playoffs. Once you're there, anything can happen in a one and done situation. Hakstol has put his team in a position to have a chance to win the national championship every single year. I get they haven't won it yet, I'm just as anxious as the next person, but I'm glad UND has a coach who gives his team a chance without fail.

The Alabama Board of Trustees should be embarrassed. Bear Bryant's son helps put the final nail in the coffin of some marginal competition in the state. And the school now owes Tennessee $925K for not playing next year instead of the $925K they were supposed to get. Not to mention they'll likely get the boot from Conference USA. Hope Alabama and Auburn enjoy the extra money, which will be chump change to them. I believe they will be allowed to transfer freely without penalty. Unfortunate that they have to choose leaving their school or continue their football careers. Definitely a shame, especially after their 1st year head coach seems to have things headed in the right direction.

Should he? My personal opinion, I don't know, we'll see how the season progresses. Any sort of postseason play (outside of the Big Sky tournament) would be overachieving based on preseason polls. Even making the Big Sky tournament would exceed where the team was picked, but I fully expect them to make the tournament. Will he? No, assuming no off-court issues or anything along those lines. He will be given at least this year and next year.
-
Me understanding and pointing out that he isn't going to be fired and why is not the equivalent to giving him my full support. Critical thinking, give it a whirl instead of knee-jerk reactions.

The suspense is killing me!

UND plays in a 1 bid league. Since the dance is all that matters, Jones has finished 2nd and 3rd in the conference in the regular season and made it to the semis and the finals. I guess its unfortunate that he couldn't duct tape enough healthy players together for the game against Weber last year but I guess he's not a miracle worker. Maybe he should have had the foresight to have Brekke wear a helmet or something since his injury left a gigantic hole that no one was able to fill. No one was cheering about making the CIT instead of the dance, but it still gives the players another game and a little extra exposure. Again, putting word in other people's mouth (that must be your bit?). Mussman's time had come, but I was also realistic enough to know it wasn't going to happen in the middle of the season. You haven't spelled out a whole lot of actual reasons why someone else would be able to come in with the resources and salary currently offered to Jones and the MBB program and be more successful. But I guess if we fire him, that will fix everything. If you didn't think that there was going to be some serious bumps in the road from a team that lost well over 50% of minutes and 2/3's of its scoring from last year and has 3 or 4 players playing meaningful minutes that had never set foot on the court for UND prior to the season, than you are either delusional or you don't listen/watch very closely.
-
Feel free to point out a single spot where I've said that I love Jones. I try using some critical thinking and looking into a situation rather than just glancing at the final score to see whether UND won or lost and basing my decision on that. There are definitely some things that make me question him but there are also a lot of other things that make me think that he deserves more time. If you had your way, the athletic department would be buried in debt from paying contract buyouts.
-
Because you can read a box score? And the Nebraska football players disagree very much with your personal assessment of Pelini and him being fired.

How many games have you watched this year?
