  1. Neutral field =/= Road game NDSU has earned home field advantage the last few years, I don't think anyone's disputing that but if being angry about it makes you feel better.... 4 years ago is the only time they've truly been on the road in the playoffs in FCS, going 1-1 (beating Montana St, losing at EWU).
  2. You'd still be at the whim of a change of opinion from multiple tribal councils for eternity. Nothing to stop a future council from revoking the support. I'll pass on that opportunity.
  3. Just for you! That one normally bugs me too (not as much you though) and then I go do it. I even re-read that part before I posted it, thought about it and then managed to post it wrong anyway. That gif made it worth it though. And if UND hockey was having a season like Wisconsin currently is, I wouldn't be anywhere near this board. Probably would have imploded long, long ago. The athletic budget as a whole would take a hit across the board. On the positive side, I'd be able to upgrade my seats at the REA quite easily, much like I've had the chance to do at the Alerus.
  4. If you add 1,000 season ticket holders, that net revenue would probably cover it. Can you guarantee that a new coach will be able to do that? I'm not blaming them for the poor performance. But I strongly disagree that there aren't issues caused, part of that being how funding is allocated, because of how a portion of the hockey fan base looks at the rest of the athletic department. Look to some of the posts made in the football forum as a prime example of that. Or how some could not have cared less what keeping the nickname would have done to the rest of the athletic department because the hockey team doesn't have to worry about hosting post season games and wasn't worried about finding a conference home. For the record, I'm a season ticket holder in hockey as well. And it by no means is it all hockey fans but unfortunately the number is higher than it should be.
  5. Yeah, don't know for sure but I'd assume that language is in the contract. Probably can't assume 100% you won't have to cough up any of the money when making a decision though and why I doubt they'd pull the trigger with anything more than 1 year remaining on his contract.
  6. UND needs to find money to invest in its basketball program. I have no clue where it is going to come from which is kind of the problem, but as it sits right now, they don't have $200K+ sitting around to buyout the last two years of Jones contract, which would be 20% of the basketball budget, on top of $125K+ annually to cover what a new quality coach would demand and the increase in the assistant salary pool that would required. Tough to justify it when you have "UND" fans who would probably prefer to just fold the basketball team and divert the money to the hockey program. The issue is only going to get worse in the coming months once full cost of attendance is passed and put into place. Since there is a Title IX component of it, I'm really hoping they focus that on either WBB or VB or both to give those programs a boost.
  7. Unless something happens outside of W/L's, Jones will be the coach of this team this year. On top of that, there is a very, very high chance that he will be the coach of the team next year as well. If you can't see and/or understand that, then you really aren't paying attention. And I'm not saying I agree with it or don't, I'm saying it is a reality. Same thing with Mussman: there was absolutely zero chance he was going to fired mid-season and the timing of him being let go was pretty clear. People are free to post their opinions, I've never claimed anything different, and if disagreeing with someone while laying out facts is considered relentlessly attacking, then I guess we will have to agree to disagree. My original plan was to only post only kneejerk reactions and long emotion filled rants, some on the edge of tinfoil hat conspiracies, but there was already more than enough of that to go around. Everyone of your examples are taxpayer funded facilities, the majority done in the name of "economic development". That is completely different than funding for UND athletics. The state will not be kicking in any money for these grand ideas people have (and remember, I actually agree with you that some of them need to be figured out and soon). The point was that the money needs to come from somewhere whether you care or not. You don't think that the Champions Club and Athletic Department would love to have an unlimited budget? Look at the budget crunch Montana State put itself in a few years ago by not having the funds in place for their football stadium expansion for an example of what happens when you do things because "they need to be done". I also sent an e-mail regarding the FU football games and I felt the same way you did. In the end, Bubba is the one who forced Faison's hand. It was never going to be signed until Bubba explained why he felt playing the game was important. You complain about NDSU dominating the region in coverage, apparently Bubba thinks similar and he felt that the quickest way to fix that was take them head on, even under what most here (myself included) deemed to be unfavorable terms. I still don't agree with it 100%, but I understand why he convinced Faison to make the decision he did. And I have no clue what your last sentence is supposed to mean. Question authority when things don't look, smell or feel right? What? UND isn't some front for a secret government agency. They aren't in year 131 of some long con. If you don't think the athletic department, from the AD to the coaches to the players, want to be successful just as much as the fans, alumni and other stakeholders then you should reassess your opinions. It isn't just wins and losses to them, it is their livelihood. It doesn't mean that I agree with all the decisions they make but I know that the decisions are done with UND's best interest in mind under whatever circumstances are presented.
  8. My point went completely over your head. It had nothing to do with comparing Phillips to Jones. The point was that UND/NDSU game last year and the NDSU fan's reaction to it was a perfect example why fans don't make decisions and decisions shouldn't be knee-jerk reactions. Think whatever you want about people "seeing your point of view". Glad that you can feel vindicated after a UND loss "knowing" that your opinion clearly must be right.
  9. Where did I say I was happy? I witnessed it in person. The whole team was garbage last night. No effort whatsoever. Jones flat out said the team didn't follow the scouting report at all. Because of that, I saw him try multiple different rotations, starters benched and end-of-bench guys playing significant minutes. None of it worked, no one showed up last night. I know this team is better than that because I've seen it. Hoping that it was a one game flop. If they don't learn from it, its going to be a longer season than anticipated. All the NDSU fans were overreacting and wanting to fire Phillips after UND absolutely boatraced them last year. I don't see UND having the talent to make a run like NDSU did last year, but its a perfect example why fans don't make decisions. But I guess it must make some people feel better. And again, beating your chest loudly on a message board doesn't make a difference. If you really want Jones fired, voice your opinion to the athletic department and Faison and put your name to it. Come up with an actual solution on how UND is going to pay for the buyouts plus the increase in the coach's contract along with the increased salary pool that a new coach will demand. Going to go out on a limb and guess that you haven't done any of that.
  10. Yes, I completely changed my mind because of the results of one non-conference game. /kneejerk You never disappoint, the fact that you get so much joy out of UND losing is mind boggling. I see you bumped this right around half-time, couldn't take the time to drive across town to support UND in person or did you need to be by your computer in case UND didn't show up so you could make sure to post in this thread? I actually attended the game and the comments Jones made post-game about effort are spot on. I've never seen UND play like that, I was embarrassed watching the guys on the floor completely fall apart and look nothing like they have this year. Werner having a good game tells me everything I need to know about the effort the players had last night. It was the exact opposite of what happened in Grand Forks last year. The visiting team had no energy and got run out of the gym. Lot of guys playing for themselves last night and there is a reason that some bench guys got a lot more minutes than normal. Friday against Dickinson State won't tell me anything, but the following Monday against Marquette will.
  11. Going to be a wild 4th down in Fargo. NDSU up 31-26 but CCU has the ball 1st and goal on the 3 yard line. Both defenses getting absolutely carved, over 760 yards of offense through 3 quarters with over 400 of it coming on the ground. That doesn't even take into account CCU's 98 yard kickoff return for a TD.
  12. Coastal came to play this year. 24-20 NDSU at the half. One punt by each team and no turnovers. Defense optional I guess....
  13. Morning line favors NDSU by 7. Money line for UND is +265.
  14. Money line? Haven't seen anything on either of the sites I check.
  15. You severely underestimate what UND as an institution meant to Ralph, not just the nickname.
  16. You realize that the NCAA is comprised of member schools (including UND) right?
  17. Big Sky is 29-48 in OOC play so far this year. Last year they ended at 23-62. No clue the difference in difficulty in schedule, but there have been more quality wins this year than I recall last year. Numbers are D-1 opponents only.

    King Bresciani

More tuition waivers for everybody!! Turned out really well last time the went into growth mode: "They will come and hopefully we'll get funds to build it later".

    King Bresciani

Feel free to inform us uneducated folks what this guy does to earn $80K per year plus full benefits on the state's dime. And if you would have read the article, you would know that he drives Brescani more than they were able to verify in the open records request (112 times in 19 months) because not every time he drives him is listed on his calendar. Oh, and he drives around Ray Boyer, NDSU director of University Police as well but those numbers aren't available because it's not listed on anyone's calendar (per Ray Boyer himself). Also, it was the Forum that had the original article, not Rob Port but direct your deflections as you see fit.
  20. I'll be making the voyage down. Could be an interesting atmosphere depending on how their football game goes and how many decide to continue imbibing between games. Fully expect it to be on par with a trip to Mariucci.
  21. Wow, terrible. Nice strawman argument saying that the new nickname will be "silly, moronic, boring" and that being the sole basis of why UND should not pick a new nickname. And assuming that no one will get behind it is patently false. Guessing that there are many people at other colleges (Arkansas State, Dartmouth, Marquette, Miami, etc) and high schools (GF Central) who claimed the same thing when they went through a change and no one would get behind a new nickname as well. Personally, I hope that the committee doesn't truly believe that no nickname is not an option and they are just trying to appease a few people. Even if they do think its an option, I'm confident those elected by the stakeholder's will understand why it isn't. For those who claim a bad nickname is the reason they won't support the University of North Dakota, I don't think their support will be missed much.* *For reference: See the threat of no more donations from people when the nickname was changed and then compare it to what direction the level of contributions has went the last few years (hint: it continues to grow).
  22. Expecting big things from Nash, don't think they have anyone that can match up with him. Wouldn't be surprised if they tried Kory Brown on him. He's their best defender but will be giving up 4 inches. Hoping Q and de Rouen are closer to full health. Think that Calcaterra can have some success down low as well. Shouldn't be anybody with the height to slow him down unless Kading steps up. Not sure on Jacobson, guessing he'll play. He's been streaky, if he's on, he will be a factor, if he's off, don't bother worrying about him. He has 3 bad games where he is a combined 1-26 (.038%) and 4 good games where he is 21-38 (.552%). NDSU has only been playing between 6-8 guys in their regular rotation, hopefully UND can wear them down.
  23. With that offer, is it safe to guess that we may be out on Tillman or Adams or both? I know we need depth in the secondary, but would they really bring in 3 safety transfers, especially with Reyes looking to be the starter at SS for 3 more years? Maybe one of them can play corner?
  24. Are you sure about this? I thought as part of the settlement, UND had to keep the trademarks/copyrights active and under their control. This is why they started the Dacotah Legacy collection (limited runs of apparel with historic logos).
  25. Looks like it was a combination of the two and the groups did not overlap (assuming this reporting is correct):
