Are you talking about the Herald article discussing another NDSU grad is sticking his nose into the nickname issue? It also includes the quote below, so not sure where you are getting the (incorrect) information there is some push to (unsuccessfully) get North Dakota on the ballot.

Maybe UND could just pass out a Chicago Blackhawks fan guide at freshman orientation?

What were you doing back in the kitchen?

It looks like 60% of the ranking is based on acceptance rate, which somehow at Minot State is only 56.6% and boosts their rating. The other 40% is made up of 25th and 75th percentile of SAT/ACT scores of enrolled students. Strangely enough, Dickinson State comes in second and has the lowest acceptance rate in the state (48.7%) despite having the worst SAT/ACT scores of enrolled students at both the 25th and 75th percentile.

It isn't quite at the level of Grady's highlights but a pretty entertaining video of verbal commit Hunter Pinke (6'5", 220lbs) returning a kick: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2875836/highlights/285939454/v2

Should be coming out next week to give people a week to make sure things are working before the voting opens. If/when there is a runoff, the turnaround will be quick on the second vote, within two weeks or so.

I thought after Wisconsin offered him a PWO, UND did come back and offer some sort of money but he had already (unfortunately and understably) made up his mind. Could be wrong and don't blame the kid either way, Wisconsin is where he dreamed of playing. Doesn't hurt that it has really worked out well for him. Edit - Looks like it was late scholarships from NDSU and NIU he turned down to come to UND as a PWO (at least in year 1).

I don't buy that argument. While I agree that the focus shifted too far away from ND and partially MN, I don't think that saying he didn't recruit the right kids is real accurate either. I think he hit on quite a few guys and there are quite a few kids that went through the program or aren't on campus any more that would look really good on UND's roster right now (Golladay, Schobert and Kuska come to mind immediately). The bigger issue to me was more what happened when the kids got to campus including player development/coaching. Good OC, just wasn't ready or able to be a HC at this level, particularly a first time HC. To make a bad situation worse, it was compounded by a whole host of other things including the transition, nickname issue and lack of support (that was definitely somewhat self-inflicted). Regardless, glad the football team appears to be headed in the right direction.
-
Very likely. That still doesn't change that one team got embarrassed in an OOC game on the road in a hostile environment against an unfamiliar opponent. The other got embarrassed at home in front of the largest crowd their stadium had ever seen against a conference opponent that they are incredibly familiar with.
-
While agreeing with and keeping your first point in mind, are you surprised by the results or the justifications that are being used to try to come up with the explanation in how they are in no way similar?

TV Guide wasn't showing it but Zap2it is. Channel 597 on Midco in Grand Forks will have the UND/Bemidji game. http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tv/college-hockey/SP003247570000?aid=zap2it For anyone interested, they will also have the UMD/Bemidji game on 10/10, same channel.
-
Bemidji games are carried on Lakeland Public Television. It shows the game will be televised and Grand Forks has always gotten the Bemidji games through one of the PBS channels, assuming that hasn't changed. Edit - Will be on 597

Those are composite rankings of something like 22 different rating scales (some of which are pretty far out there, UND's ranking varies from 8 to 76). Massey rating itself actually has UND at 39. Portland state dropped 14 spots to 26. Squeaking by Drake (ranked 101) and Davis (81) are currently not helping UND in the computer rankings. The computer doesn't care that the games weren't as close as the score might have indicated, they only care about the final score. Can't remember exactly how games from another division are handled but Wyoming being 127 out of 128 probably doesn't prop UND up as much as it should.

Fargo fans mock, pity UND fans for having "Sundogs" as a finalist
jdub27 replied to johndahl's topic in UND Nickname
You were right in your original assessment, however he came to the conclusion that he had to actually pick something on the ballot, albeit begrudgingly. -
I stand by it and could care less.

1 play, 76 yards 4 plays, 8 yards 2 plays, 1 yard Those are Portland State's scoring drives. Defense did a pretty damn good job outside the first play of the game (where a running team comes out 5 wide). Fun game to watch, UND controlled the majority of the game but wasn't able to put it away until the very end. Incredibly encouraging to see the offense string together some plays to run out the clock for the second week in a row. Lots of room for improvement and mistakes to clean up but absolutely no one would have predicted 4-1 at this point. Injuries are obviously a concern right now as depth seems to be the one thing this team doesn't have a lot of at this point.

Turning the lights out for pre-game intro is an absolute must, period. It might require having to adjust the timing or whatever but leaving the lights on flat out kills what the intro is trying to accomplish. I liked having them slowly starting to come on during the National Anthem in the past, added a little bit of unintended aura to to it.

Vote on your final 5 nickname choices (just ND is out)
jdub27 replied to jimdahl's topic in UND Nickname
At least your honest about wanting to cling onto the Fighting Sioux name but it takes a little bit more than a few "adjustments". That exact logo has already successfully defended its copyright against a team that made a few adjustments (see below). While not positive, I do believe that there was some sort of agreement between UND and Chicago for use of the Blackhawks logo. -
You'd think that this would be the one guy who would be all in on Fighting Hawks. He should have just saved his money on the trademark filings and bought new letterhead.
-
I really have no clue what the best part of this is. So much to choose from, in no particular order: Continued complete lack of understanding of trademark law on top of admitting he's doing it for the sole purpose trying to (unsuccessfully) impede UND's processUse of old stationary that is 25 years old (though manually updated to clarify that he is the former mayor, not the current one)Picture of bison that is apparently struggling with somethingSigned as N.D.S.U. They should have saved everyone some time and titled the article "Local Man Continues to Show Lack of Understanding of Trademark Laws"

Excellent article by Tom Miller on Will Ratelle: http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-football/3851873-und-football-green-lightning-has-become-one-unds-greats

This guy is quickly becoming my favorite opposing coach (up there with Kramer from Idaho State). Though, as previously stated, he does love to sandbag...

You have to remember that the %gobc is operating behind the 8-ball these days. Rumor has it that they are scheduled to make their actual vote sometime in early December.
