NCAA To Sanction UND if School Does Not Adopt New Nickname
jdub27 replied to Benny Baker's topic in UND Nickname
I find this hard to believe. There are still people who want to play as the Fighting Sioux despite knowing the consequences. There are people who still think we should go on with no nickname despite both athletes and administrators from with UND's athletic department stating reasons why that shouldn't be an option. There are people who think despite the NCAA saying that while choosing no nickname doesn't technically violate the settlement agreement it "would very likely result in sanctions" that it is still fine to choose "no nickname" just to see what happens. I gave up on people being "remotely informed" and making the correct decision long ago. -

http://www.uscho.com/2012/02/29/ncaa-announces-sanctions-to-north-dakota-for-use-of-nickname-logo/ You're so adamant about things being nothing more than assumptions yet continue to have a laundry list of your own without the same concern for possibilities that they may or may not happen. The NCAA body granted the Executive Committee power to change rules as necessary. That is where the argument starts and ends, regardless of what the rules currently say or don't say or how each individual interprets them. -
It's as if you've heard this story before....
-
Paul Ralston's interview from last week was pretty good. Talked about the "choke job" incident which and it was interesting to hear both him and Jayson talk about it from their respective positions.

Be prepared to be labeled a liar and hater among other things (despite your posting history indicating the complete opposite of that). I was hoping for a part where the coach interjected to inform him that his offer was pulled so it didn't matter. It is what it is, I've heard a few other similar stories but they've always been second or third hand.

Curious what you mean by "knowing what their majors are"?
-
Not sure who said that? The important things were completed They shifted some things that weren't deemed important out of Phase 1 and moved a few other things (bleachers) to outside both phases and can be added at a later time. They unfortunately didn't have any old wooden bleachers they could leave in. The only area fan base that I've seen claiming money is no issue is a few clowns from Fargo U. They clearly have no clue.
-
I agree, but why would they bother? They have no incentive to, they will continue to put the rope on the table and give UND the option to hang themselves if they so choose and leave their hands clean. Same thing they did with the Fighting Sioux nickname.

Let me know when there is some actual measure that has any sort of creditability released. The survey done by UND last year gathering people's input was the closest I've seen (and is nowhere near qualifying). The results showed the clear majority was ready to move on to a new nickname. In the latest poll, the majority of students either didn't feel strong enough one way or another to bother to vote or they just don't care. Yeah, I'm sure they are the ones who would suffer. Why not toss more money at this dumpster fire that was lost long ago and live under sanctions while continuing to look like a bunch of clowns?

Recap now up with a couple pictures and video with an interview with Q and McDermott.
-
Just for clarity, there were 3,262 responses sent in. Not sure how many students the link went out to, but enrollment last year was 14,906. Of those that responded, 68.3% said they wanted it included in the vote (not that they wanted it to be chosen, though there is most definitely overlap). 24.4% said no and 7.3% were unsure. Before someone claims that this a referendum one way or another, something like 1/4-1/3 (at best) of students took the time to fill out the one question survey, meaning the majority didn't even bothered respond, let alone are in favor of adding "no nickname" back as an option. That being said, of those that responded, not real surprised by the results as you are likely going to have those that feel the strongest take the time to respond. Also agree fully with your last statement. Gave up on trying to predict what would happen next a long time ago.

UNDSports.com is hoping to have a full recap along with pictures/video if they are able.

Following on Twitter I'm assuming? Haven't seen anything else.

Instead of clicking on the thread title or whatever, you need to on the little circle or star that appears to the left of the thread title.

Game was streamed on Youtube (replay here). No word yet on UND's game being available.

Guessing they'll have to make up for it with a continuous rotation, keeping fresh bodies in. Hopefully one or two guys can step up and take the spot.

That's just a ridiculous comment. Again, the kid hasn't even played his senior year in high school. Clearly the coaches see something you don't. For the most part, they have been pretty good at identifying talent at the high school level. Molding them once they get onto campus has been an issue in some cases, but that is a different argument.

Hoping that they include the number of respondents in the results as well. Curious how many students will bother responding. -

Is it just a 1 question survey or are there multiple questions and ability to add comments? -
Guessing it is mainly a reference to walk-ons which, because of roster limitations until classes start, can't join workouts yet. Assuming anyone who is expected to possibly have an impact this year is already at practice and it is getting pretty late to be finding a transfer, though you never know.

I'm not as familiar as you likely are but they won the D-1/U-17 division and aausports.org has them ranked as the #11 team in the country, not sure when that was last updated. The Prep Hoops Iowa rankings that you're referencing also haven't been updated since May 22. Martin Brothers is a hugely successful AAU team dating back decades. My only point is that the kid is on a successful AAU team, impressed the coach's in person at the Elite camp, had interest from multiple area schools and is a multi-sport athlete, yet you're already downplaying him as a mistake off a few games that as far as I can tell, weren't available for viewing and have no box scores. UND has a very good Iowa connection with Horner and Jones, I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt until the kid is at least on campus.
-
Didn't his AAU team win the national championship? I haven't seen any box scores that showed how he did but he was on a pretty good team. I also have not saw much of him in action except his highlight tapes but if the coaching staff was confident enough after seeing him in person at the elite camp, then I would assume they know what kind of player he is.

This. I've heard some players asking about them as well.
