Do either of them play defensive back and can help defend against MSU's aerial attack and preseason All-Conference QB? Seems a little more complex than who UND lines up behind center.

I wouldn't hang my hat on "60,000" didn't vote. Anyone who was eligible with an e-mail on file got a link. Tons of alumni could not care less about the process or athletics in general, they just so happened to be in the system, so as an eligible voter, so they were counted whether the wanted to be or not. Same with students or employees. It would be different if every single person had to register ahead of time and could be considered "active".

There is a runoff because none of the choices reached the 50% mark. In the runoff, the winner doesn't have to reach the 50% mark. Seems illogical that the reason that triggered the runoff may not actually be fulfilled by the runoff and yet there could still be a winner.

I don't think 82,000 registered, that's just how many e-mails were sent out between alumni, students, employees and season ticket holders. If anyone in those groups had an e-mail address on file, they got an e-mail, regardless of whether they updated it in the last month.

I like to look at it as resetting the rules to how they were announced. Similar to Kelley consideration in adding back "no nickname". He bordered on the edge of changing the rules and then relented and left the nickname committee's decision as is.

This GF Herald poll from a month ago seems to be the only thing I can find where Fighting Hawks polled well. Also not a huge surprise to see the shift in support for Nodaks once Berry and the hockey team came out in favor of it.

If someone made it very clear that the Blackhawks concept design created and owned by a random Canadian has zero chance of being the next logo, that would probably swing a lot of votes.

Thanks. I assumed since the UND release didn't mention it or the possibility of a third vote, that was now the case. That bothers me more than anything.

The reasoning of why a third one was added doesn't bother me all that much (despite not caring for Nodaks at all). What does bother me is that there has been no clarification I have seen that confirms a nickname can now win with less than 50% of the vote. I think that is important and should be required even if it would require a third round of voting.

That would be a nice change of pace.

Don't flatter yourself, jim keeps track of those for me (and everyone else). That being said, I think you're misjudging the "RR" crowd. The majority of people I've talked to will support UND regardless of what the final nickname will be. The only group I've seen that have threatened to quit supporting the University is a faction of the "Fighting Sioux" only crowd who have openly stated to stop cheering and supporting UND (donations). Some of that crowd has merged into the "no nickname" and now Nodaks crowd. Comments on the Herald's website verify it. Again just a faction, but it is not a made-up boogeyman. I've stated multiple times that my preferred nicknames were eliminated long ago. At that point my preference was for UND to pick a nickname that was the most marketable and was the most helpful in distancing themselves from the continued controversy that the Fighting Sioux nickname (unfortunately) caused. In my opinion, Nodaks comes in last in both of those two categories. Just for fun, in early May I predicted the three finalists to be Roughriders, Stars and Sundogs/Spirit/Flame/inanimate object. Again, with 60+ left remaining none of those were in my top 3 but it is how I saw everything playing out.

Padilla was hired to consult with the committee but I didn't think a marketing team/firm had been selected to help once a name is selected.

Looking at how many tickets are left for each game, I think I see why they gave up on their policy.

The plan isthat turnaround will be very quick and done within a week or two. I haven't heard anything that would indicate that has changed.

It wasn't a try at anything, I was honestly curious. Reading some of the comments from this summer are all around hilarious, you just happened to make a list and the one you voted for wasn't even in your top 3.

Interesting to see the turnaround in a couple of very vocal Nodak supporters. Honestly curious what changed in the last few months.

Western Illinois on the road to Cedar Falls beat the same team that NDSU squeaked by in Fargo the week before. After the showing NDSU put up last week, I wouldn't mark down any sure wins, especially with a QB that has zero experience. Not saying that their season is even close to over, but pump the brakes a little bit.
