Seth Ambroz is not coming to UND. I'm hoping you're not serious.

I think we have to bring in another player, I just don't think there's much options this late in the game. All of our forward recruits aren't out of high school yet, and there's probably not too many caliber kids out there. I say try to nab a few walk ons to get some depth and just go with it. The freshman class as a whole has talent, so we'll probably be okay as long as the upperclassmen can step up and fill some big shoes.

What is this garbage? Recruiting advantage to Hockey East? Give me a f-ing break. The ONLY recruiting advantage Hockey East has is in their own geographical region. Seriously. If a kid in Minnesota, or the Midwest is given a choice between playing for a Hockey East school and one closer to home, where do you think they go? This goes the same for East Coast kids. How many East Coast kids do you see in the WCHA or other schools around here? VERY FEW. Really, I don't think too many prospective recruits care much about name brand conference affiliation. They look at the hockey programs they are looking at playing for and those benefits. The new conference provides better competition than the watered down WCHA without Minny & Wisco does. Because let's face it, without MInny & Wisco in the WCHA you're looking at a league title from UND and DU almost every year. Sure, the other teams are competitive in the WCHA, but for the most part, have not challenged much for league championships. A little arrogant, but given recent trends, it would not be surprising. And why are you so concerned about a TV deal with Versus?

There's talk of Notre Dame wanting to start women's hockey.

I don't think they'd be visiting UND with or without the new league. Don't they have some sort of unwritten rule about only playing cupcake nonconference opponents at home and not traveling for nonconference road games? And Wisconsin won't be playing us with our current nickname state once they join the Big 10. IMO, this move was something that had to be done once the Big Ten happened. Changes were coming. We couldn't just stay put and do nothing. Being reactive just comes back to bite you in the butt. I'm glad we were proactive, unlike the WCHA administration. On a side note to a previous comment, Hammy is a d-bag and his self-righteous, holier than thou, know-it-all attitude gets on my last nerve. If I felt like getting into a petty, twitter argument with him, I would, but I have more important things to worry about than that.

Andrew MacWilliam and Taylor Dickin will be attending the Maple Leafs prospect camp starting on July 4th. They both attended last year as well. http://mapleleafs.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=567924&navid=DL|TOR|home

I was thinking about this earlier since I can't do anything else since the apt maintenance dude said he'd be by anywhere from 9:30-4:30 to fix my toilet so I can't leave, but I digress. I was thinking that it makes sense for these guys to be pro-CHL and come across like they do because particularly during the 1st round, I believe that was the TSN feed. It makes sense that they say these guys could go CHL to give their viewers in Canada a bite because what do Canadians care about college hockey? But I only saw the replay on the NHL network and that was the TSN feed so I have no idea what was shown on Versus live. The second round was the NHL network feed and came across more pro-college hockey.

I guess I don't recall him saying Miller should go to the OHL. I just remember it being said that he was committed to North Dakota, but also that his rights were owned by Plymouth of the OHL and that it'd be interesting to see what he would do. Maybe I missed something. I was at the draft so maybe I missed it when I re-watched the replay on the NHL network.
-
supposedly he interviewed really bad at the combine and has a bad work ethic. Sounds like a Gopher hockey player to me. I just kept thinking that had to be why he dropped so low at the draft. I was just sitting there at the draft, really surprised he was dropping so far and all those other Minnesota high school kids went earlier...

to go further on that, i believe the cut off date is sometime in January. I would guess you can't turn 20 during the tournament. I know when the U.S won gold, John Carlson barely made the cut off... i think he turned 20 a week or two after the tournament.

I don't group Canadian hockey players into the arrogant category being referred to. Canadian fans on the other hand, are a completely different animal. I'm sure they aren't all bad. I mean, they love hockey as much as the rest of us do. I think some that frequent the message boards make it seem like a majority. Full disclaimer: I don't hate all the Canadian NHL teams. Just the Canucks... and the Habs.
-
Well guys... in the last 2 years I'm 2 for 2: the team i wanted to win the cup has won the cup when I have not watched the deciding game as I was unable to the last two years. And seriously... so happy about the Canucks failing. That's all I wanted to make up for all my other sports teams failures in the last year.
-
i don't care if we play BC. I care about winning 2 games at the Icebreaker.
-
Agreed, but I see Rowney at center this year... so I'd slot him in on the third line.
-
Do you seriously think we go around offering scholarships to just anyone? They've obviously been tracking this kid for months and feel he can contribute something to the program. I trust our coaching staffs judgment. This kid wants to be a Sioux so let's see what he's got. It's not desperation. It's adding depth.

He's from Minnetonka. I overheard a conversation at a Minnetonka hockey game this winter about him being unhappy. But it didn't sound like he was leaving at the time. I also heard (at this same game) that his dad thinks he should have gone to Wisco and that Jake should have gone to Minny. Weird. I don't know how accurate that is as it is hockey parents talking here...
-
I don't think so, unless there are injuries. Gleason will be very valuable at D next year with his experience. We are likely looking at bringing in another forward... likely a Davidson type player.
-
Jason only has a sister. No brothers.
-
I knew this... but he'd still be considered a "draft pick" because he was, in fact, drafted. Completely agree with you about Rowney. I think he's a key piece to the puzzle. I like what he brings. Not flashy, but still an important piece.
-
except Wheeler was a junior when he turned pro. Wheeler found a loophole in the CBA where he could do that instead of playing through his senior year to wait for free agency.
-
Maybe you should be looking at the other players they have. Kristo may be Montreal's top prospect, but they are a playoff team, and not lacking talented players. There are a lot of factors you have to think about besides the player in question. And that's the reality.
-
Um... Dell is too old for the WHL. He is 21. So I''d quit while you're ahead.

I'm sorry but that's crazy. None of the potential early departures are going to jump straight into the NHL and I would be very surprised to see them in the show next year. It's difficult to jump over incumbents on all these teams. Gregoire would probably the only one with even a slight chance and that's only because he would play for the Islanders. If all of those four guys leave, they'll be biding their time in the AHL next year, probably behind guys in the AHL on the depth chart. And there is no guarantee they will get called up, so I'd stop with that assumption right now. My only problem with guys that leave early are those that leave to play in the AHL. I don't see a point to leave school to play in a minor league that's always going to be there. But that's just my opinion. If all four of those guys leave, I think where we will take the biggest hit is in the area of leadership. We'll be down to 2 seniors and it makes me nervous. When Denver lost all their guys last year, they at least had a decent number of upperclassmen. Gregoire and Hexy have been team leaders ever since they got here and if both are gone, that's a big blow in more than one area besides on the ice.

The player has to want to go too. It's not just the club trying to get said players out of situations. They have to want to go. Ness was probably a "need" to get out of Minny. Donovan probably wanted to leave and thought he was ready for the pro game.
