  1. I'll be the first one in line to buy my ticket if the football game ever resumes. I'm not running with the "screw those guys/ we don't need them" croud.

Offense: Same undisciplined unit we've watched the past few years. Too many stupid penalties. Same lackluster playcalling except for a hurry-up play that got us a first down. (and one toss down deep that I thought was going to pay off - looked like Harmon got a little held up) Some good running and passing off and on - lots of TERRIBLE catch attempts. Jeez-louize. Defense: What can I say - they held them scoreless. It sure seemed, though, that Drake could gain 5-10 yards pretty much at will with the pass. Again - dreadful flashbacks of last year. Special teams actually looked pretty good. So we won - 50% of teams have a losing record after the first game, so I guess I'm happy. A 16 point sloppy victory isn't quite the springboard I was looking for. But what the hell - we're undefeated.

Lots of good comments. I agree we have an opportunity to get a good win and we HAVE to take advantage of it to start to wipe away last year's dissapointing season.
  4. We've always been able to pull off a few goal line stands; it's true. The secondary doesn't have to play off the line so far because there's no threat of getting burned deep... giving them proper positioning to defend the pass on a short field. And our rush defense will generally hold their own anyway. I think the short field contributes the lion share of the goal line defensive success; at least more than motivational tactics by the staff, anyway. But hey... my glass is half empty.
  5. I sure wish i was with you; just can't get my head around the many disappointments of last season. And the "pistol" - for heavens sake, don't get me started on that one! I'm sure I'll come around mid-season, but right now, I'm a solid "regretfully pessimistic." Please, Sioux Football, prove me wrong!
  6. No... not me...
  7. Maybe not - but I do like the fact that their PC tongue-lashings and "holier than the UND heathens" attitude over the past few years is not being rewarded. It's kind of like peeing all over your neighbors living room floor and then wondering why you didn't get invited to his super bowl party.
  8. krangodance makes some great points about closed threads, and why they shouldn't be closed. I guess I'm on the fence on the subject. From what I've seen here over the last number of years, threads get closed when the information turns stale. When nothing new is brought to the table for discussion, we generally end up watching a urinating match about some tangent of the original discussion. These, of course, usually end up in a stalemate - in turn leading to more pointless urinating. When real substance is no longer present in the thread, I don't have a problem seeing it shut down. FWIW - It's Jim's site, and it seems to me that he wants to maintain a certain level of decorum here - and moderates topics accordingly. Who are we to disagree?
  9. Thanks for taking a compliment by me for identifying what I see are real consequences for continued use of the nickname - and in turn making me look like a jackass with your ridiculous comments. I'd say friend is a stretch.
  10. In fairness, I got a little fired up and a little wordy. It's true that Omdahl, while a fan of the logo, is in favor of transitioning away - and has maintained that stand for a couple years now. Didn't mean to mislead or mis-quote anyone.
  11. HowBoutThemBison? isn't my favorite poster on this forum, but I think he's closer to being a realist than many of you are giving him credit for. (nonsensical posts, of course, aside) I've fought this nickname fight vocally and financially, and was heartbroken when it took a path I didn't like. The fact is, we settled our suit. We didn't meet the terms of the settlement to keep the name for reasons I'm too frustrated to discuss. Now, the johnny-come-latelys are bring the fight back and making UND look like a pack of fools. WHERE WAS YOUR SUPPORT WHEN WE NEEDED IT? WHERE WAS YOUR ACTION WHEN WE NEEDED IT? NEWSFLASH: IT'S TOO DAMNED LATE!!!! Good piece by another vocal supporter of the nickname - I share his sentiments almost verbatim: http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/201422 I do know one thing: It is time to put this issue to rest. We have squandered too much time, money and reputation on this fruitless fight with forces beyond our control.
  12. Jackwagons.
  13. I'm in too - see you guys in St. Paul!
  14. Seeing a bunch of these types of ads. Here's a good rule of thumb: This event is commanding outrageous prices for crappy seats. If someone is selling great seats below face value, you may want to walk away...
  15. Perhaps a bedside vigil is needed? Good grief.
  16. Is it correct that the MacNaugton will be presented either Saturday or (hopefully not) Sunday? Want to make sure my kids get to that game...
  17. That save was, IMO, the big play... I thought it was going in - dell made an awesome slide to keep us in it. Trupp = my POG.
  18. Yes, yes, and yes.
  19. It's what's found on the ground when little bears $h!t in the woods...
  20. For sure... they do a great job. (and my 11 year-old son and his buddies are also big fans of the cheerleaders for some reason... )
  21. Publicity stunt and attention-getting egoism at NDSU? No... not in a million.
  22. I live in the Thompson, ND area, and work in GF - You can pick them up if you're travelling, or I'll deliver if you're in town.

  23. So many great talking points brought up in this thread... MadScout03 made some great references to the particulars of the players, formations, etc. Have to agree on mostly all of those concerns. This no-huddle that uses nearly all of the play clock is not catching anyone off guard. The word "gimmick" comes to mind... I have concerns with the coaching staff too - Mussman in particular. I have been fortunate to watch all of the Alerus Sioux games over the years from a great vantage point to see the coaches' interaction with the players. Past coaches could melt some great athletes with one cold stare. It seems that our athletes this year don't have the same fear of our coaches. I was particularly displeased with what was seemingly a "playground shove" from our head coach to one of his athletes during the last home game. Don't get me wrong - I am 100% in favor of chewing them out to get their heads in the right place, and generally doing whatever it takes to get them in the right direction. Just the fact alone that it takes physical interaction to do this tells me that A) The coach doesn't instill the fear of God into his players B) There is a lack of respect for one another on both sides of the clipboard. I can be honest and say that I'm completely frustrated by the season thus far - perhaps that is weighing on my opinions. But I can also be honest in saying that I don't like what I see thus far - and unfortunately, I don't expect anything to change very soon. *Saw Dale Lennon mentioned on this thread a few times too. Anyone else besides me think that Lennon gave his ringing endorsement to Mussman only to ensure that he could secure Schweigert as his DC, and not have to worry about him applying? That, among other things, has been bothering me for the past few years. Loved the guy as our coach, but really think he screwed us over when he went southeast.
