I agree with everything you say here but we both know that wisconsin or minnesota would only boycott us over the long term if it was a public policy by them to do so. They would not just choose to not schedule us and not have a public statement as to why. It would be a decree of the administration. By doing this they would then expose themselves to a standard that they would have to be consistent with or risky exposure of legal liability.

Im not saying I think I know why Hak said what he did but, common goon, to say that he can go coach anywhere as a rationall to dismiss the hypothesis whereby he is feeling pressure regarding his contact renewal is a strech. I get the feeling from watching pretty much every one of his interviews ever published, that he bleeds green on the highest level so its a pretty safe beet that IF he was feeling pressure regarding his contact he would not dismiss it because he could just go somewhere else

If an institution chose to schedule 1 school which was under sanction while choosing not to schedule another school because of being them being under sanction fot the same reason, would that expose thrm to legal liability?

To bad the national media refuses to report that this group has this position and is the locus of the current fight to keep the name- including being the ones to start the petitons! It's to bad because, as we have seen the last month, public opinion can be molded and without including this critical fact the mold does not go the way it could and should.

Alumni Association begins campaign against nickname
yababy8 replied to jimdahl's topic in UND Nickname
Sorry Friend, athletic martyrdom is NOT paramount to "all costs". To gets past the rhetoric of comparing the two one must first define "athletic martyrdom" and I'm guessing you and I would have a hard time agreeing there. Second, even your Big-Sky-is-falling extremist take on the result of athletic martyrdom does not justify "at ALL costs" claims. It is simply a Divisive hyperbolic suggestion used to manipulate emotions and to give a pejorative impression of those whole you oppose. It is really quite pathetic watching people succumb to fear and reduce themselves to this mentality. It reminds me of the way people were 10 years ago when we invaded Iraq. To suggest that we should not be doing that was paramount to not being a patriot and/or not supporting the troops. It is truly an insanity that arises from a state of fear. A mental state where one suspends reasonabilty due to the anxiety associated with a challenging situation and further perpetuated when our leadership exhibit the same behavior, see Fiason, Okeef, Kelly, Dahl speak of weapons of Mass Destruction. -

Half truths? Here is a Half truth for you: The statement, "name at all costs"- wow! This could be an exercise in propaganda in class rooms all across the world. Even Dahl is using this one now. "risking" our conference affiliation, home NCAA tourney games or having a few schools act like false gods and not schedule us (for a period of time??) is paramount to "at all costs". NICE!! and very respectful of people who have lost loved-ones for causes like wars too!! Unbelievable. I cannot believe how ignorant and manipulative a statement like "name at all costs" is. Anyone who has used this should stare at a wall until they realize either how full of sh*T they are or how gullible they are to others rhetoric. -
What happens if the first petition gains enough signatures?

Don't be getting all logical right in the middle of a hysterical frenzy! Listening to people on this forum reminds me of a woman I once saw right after car accident. -
I think this is a poorly thoughtout summation of the thinking in the minds of petitiion supporters.

A NDSC ruling in favor of the SBOHE could benefit all Higher Ed.

Here is a legal question for everyone. It is a question that I have pondered from time to time but have NO clue as to the answer: If the Attorney General of a state enters into a legally binding agreement that carries forward future obligations forthwich the state is obligated to obide by,such as the NCAA Sioux name settlement, do the people of that state have any recourse if they do not concur with that said contract thereby excersized by a single individual regardless of his rank as the states Attorney General? If the answer is no, then it seems that the position of Attorney General possesses a quite large sum of power individually?? -
Would it be you that could give it to me?

What!!, you're not Fred?? -
The tradition of the Fighting Sioux hockey program is nothing short of amazing. I have come to understand that through my time at UND as a young man and as I have moved to several different parts of the country through my adult life. I have been in Colorado for the past 12 years and between DU, CC, NCAA regionals and a frozen four here I get it. To say that our Sioux name is not a very large part of our identity is simply not accepting the reality of what Fighting Sioux Hockey is. Tell ya what, you-any of you let the name thing go crowd- find me one athelete who in the middle of a successfull proffesional career cites how honored he/she was to be a part of the Bison program the way you CONSTANTLY here it from Fighting Sioux players, then I will accept that I have the wrong idea about the significance of the Sioux name. ..For that matter, how about any hockey player from any other WCHA program. The Sioux hockey alumni consider themselves a family and their name, Fighting Sioux, is a significant part of that, as it is to me a fan. You can argue until you are blue in the face that this is not true but doing so will not make it so.

Nice! Loaded with facts too.

That's real cute ScottM, Claim an apples to oranges comparison is a fact huh? I'm sure if we checked the facts we would find out that the South Carolina African American people filed a law suit against the NCAA right? FightingSioux4life blatantly ignores that stark contrast in his reckless comparison of South Carolina and us. A contrast that has become central to this issue. i.e. the people that the NCAA conceitedly purported to wish to protect are SCREAMING for someone/anyone to hear what they are saying... "WE ARE PROUD OF THE NAME!!!" I say we hear them and we do what is right, and yes, ScottM, FightingSioux4life, and 82Sioux, we should expose our "athletic department" to risk to do it. Why?, because it is the goddam right thing to do. So quit being such sheep and cowards and support a true.. TRUE fight against the NCAA. (and I'm sorry sicatoka, you blogging about public actors years ago is not fighting. Not anymore than me blogging years ago about the true value of the Sioux name to North Dakota on this forum or the freedom of speech aspect or me asserting that the constitution of the state should be ammended years ago on here before anyone else did.) Changing the contitution, now that is a fight. What Spririt Lake is doing, now that is a fight. Demanding that the media cover this correctly, that would be a fight. Its worth the fight! For Pete's sake, it's in our name!
-
you are correct that is why the spirit lake sioux voted overwhelmingly in support of the name. oh and by the way did I mention the lawsuit, did state republicans do that 1 or was it a bum steer by those uninvested Spirit Lake people?
-
close to 25 yrs. I used to argue with my best friends girlfriend who was a member of the UND student senate back in the early 90's when they voted to remove the blackhawk logo. She is a Sioux from Devils lake and related to Skip. Now she is a strong supporter of the Sioux name and very proud of it when she goes with all of us to SIOUX games in Colorado, we and thousands of other SIOUX FANS. Kind of like the 10s of thousands of Sioux Fans who I see at the Frozen Four. Most of who believe, like me, that the Sioux name is something pretty damn special and worth the fight accordingly. The Sioux name is NOT more important than the Athletic- as you say- "department". It is the identity of what the athletic department has produced over 80 years and that is what is the most important here. ...oh and did I mention it is the RIGHT THING TO DO?
-
So MR. Fightingsioux4life, when you say that we should drop the petitions because the laws could cause the Big Sky to dump UND, you are "countering with facts"? hmmmm? or maybe the fact in that story touched you a little two close to home. After all, you are advocating that we should no longer fight against the NCAA because of what bad things might happen to us AND you do agree that changing the name is, without regard to said threats, the wrong thing to do, correct?
-
I'm pretty sure they all didn't much care for the will of the people not being heard.

yes you did.
