It's pretty simple 82, I care about NOT allowing the wrong thing to happen.

Ya and the Hells Angels are not just about Harleys. I'm sure they hit the jet skis too.

Darell1976, The question is not wether or not the BigSky is falling is a real or "fake" threat. The question is what is it worth to anyone to stand up for what is right no matter the cost. And I JUST CANNOT BELIEVE how quickly people will cower in the face of a challenge. Here is the deal; We all acknowledge that fundamentally getting rid of the Sioux name is wrong, so it is only a question of "the fight vs the costs" right? I do not believe that this is not worth fighting for. I weigh the following: 1. The history and significance of the Sioux name. 2. The reality of the name in college hockey. Ya know, the biggest sport following in North Dakota by a landslide. BTW much bigger than most comparable states enjoy. 3. The embarrassment to the world if we lose what we love. It is nothing less that humiliating. A question, what effect would it have on the future of New York City if its name was changed to something like, "The Force of the East". Hmmmm? 4. The risk that the big sky is going to dump us if we keep the name. This is IN NO WAY KNOWN. Even if it came to a vote, and to say it will is simply a speculation, would it pass? 5. Would the NCAA START to get bad publicity regarding their policy if you have a combination of Constitutional protection and Native America law suits? Very possible. 6. Can/would other nonconference school boycott our teams? There would be the possibility of law suits there. The NCAA agreement gives us the right to keep the name with conditions OUTLINED in the settlement. These conditions do not address member school boycotts. Any school that would enact policy against us would be doing so on their own accord and I believe would expose themselves to legal trouble if they schedule a school that has a native American name. ie Florida or Illinois. The lawsuit does not protect them. 7. If we refuse to give up then no matter the outcome we will always own the proud feeling that we as UND students, alumni, members of the Sioux nation and all other invested citizens did not cower in the face of threats and bullying. That we stood up for our convictions and for what we KNOW is right and most importantly for who we are and what we call ourselves. 8. Martyrdom is a better place that cowardice. Even in the unlikely event the schools athletics all go up in burning flames and NDSU (who gives a crap school) gets to be the predominant division one football force in North Dakota, we can all go USC for the Rose Bowl and watch the Bison beat Oklahoma and tell our grandkids about the history of the fighting Sioux and the fascists that stole it from us. Way better that explaining the awesome story of how we became the Force of the East.. or whatever... That is a good chunk of what I factor when I come to the conclusion that making the SIOUX name a law of North Dakota and forever blessing our citizenry with the gift of self determination and freedom with regard to what we call ourselves… Well that and the simple fact that it is the right thing to do.

"Hey mom, what is the moral to the story?", asked little Timmy. "What story is that", mom repled. "You know the story written by ScottM and Sicatoca called The Big Sky is Falling" replied Timmy. "Oh that one", exclaimed mother, "That is a story about how you, no matter how bad or wrong it is, should do whatever someone esle tells you to if they tell you they are going to hurt you if you don't." "I've heard that story before", said little Timmy curiously. "Where at", inquired mother. "My teacher taught us about a big world war where a bunch a people did that.", answered little Timmy. He though for a moment or two and then added, "I thought bad things happened to them anyway?"...

Kind of like the abused child who is cluelss as to what he does to get beaten huh?

Given the man power shortage the team is faced with right now it is a tough predicament. I felt like kristo played well. The crux of the problem last night was zone entry and holding it. to do this you need all 3 fowards getting to the puck fast and winning the puck battles. All of this requires each guy to have two good legs no matter how skilled he is. Now if your top scoring line falls short of this you lose, not just the scoring potential of the injured player, but also the potential of your other 2 top scoring forwards as well.

Hak needs to cancel the night line for tonights game. With complete realization for the fact of the Sioux are short handed skaters I make the following assertion; Given Knights current injury state, he needs to be to be temporarily NOT playing one his line. Friday night is was abundantly obvious he could not skate well. He was causing his line trouble not getting into position, not getting in front of the and losing possession. Any one could see he was not sharp on the feet. I know we should not discuss injuries to players because teams could take advantage but if I sitting at home watching on tv can see clearly his right ankle is bothering him I'm sure every player the other team sees it too. It is clearly not a little thing his skating is very very different than it usually is. So what is the solution? I think, for tonight, they should move Parks to the top line. He's been playing like a machine. I don't know how experienced Parks is at center? You could slide Nelson to center as well. I just think it's really a mistake having Night on the scoring line right now because it renders Nelson and Kristo to ineffective. Knight will have 2 weeks to rest after tonight and should be better for the Duluth series. He also should not be out on the penalty kill line or the power play. Note; I love Knights game. This isn't about him is a player it's about how bad he's injured right now and more importantly how that injury is affecting his abilities to skate to play. I am very very confident in what I saw.

ahhhh.... yeah.. ummm. I think you mean "is not similar' not "compared". See I'm sure you and lakessioux know very well that everything in the universe can be compared in any way. In fact, comparison is the root of all perception, knowledge and even existence, but I digress. Now that we have established that one can and should compare everything. Let's compare slavery with removing the Sioux name... Hmmm, let's make a list of similarities and differences in two columns; I'll start with similarities. Ahhh, ohhh I've got one, here goes, 1. They are both wrong!... ...I'm bored with this so I will end there... You finish, K?... Just one thing though, could ya do me and untold thousands of Sioux fans across the world a favor and stop trying to F*CK with number one above... K thanks..

You have to honestly wonder how much the "academics" are even involoved in the true impetus toward these policies. It seems that between the curious lack of reporting of pending legal actions and the lack of disclosure and discussion that occurred when the members voted one the indian name policy, the reality might be that these fascist policies may be being driven by a few at the top and the academics are simply puppets guilty of nothing more than ignorant stupidity. Most probably get not much more out of their role as their institutions representative to the NCAA than the fun of a free trip to Dallas or wherever else the NCAA takes them to be mired in lavish excess as the NCAA leadership goes about the simple task of brainwash needed to get them to vote their fascist policies into being.

GF Herald's Wayne Nelson calling UND "Green and White"
yababy8 replied to fightingsioux4life's topic in UND Nickname
Especially, given the absolute truth in the fact that regardless of threats, settlements, fears and brainwash, keeping the Sioux name is the right thing to do. Further and of even more importance, when we the people are denied the right to actualize what is objectively right, then we as executors of ourselves and humanity should be driven by prudence with knowledge and acceptance of the requirement of the risk of sacrifice to right that which is wrong and effectuate that which is right. -

At the heart of every good argument resides perfect spelling. Therefore it is understandable that you choose that as the focus of your rebuttal. Throw in a few pejoratives like you seem inclined to do and you are simply unbeatable! -

I figured you would find that humerous, kind of like the way you surely chucle when you refer to the people, many of which are Sioux native Americans, who are handing out petitions as, "his [Al Carson's] equally clueless acolytes". Nice! -

Wow, this from the guy that executes political attacks on a North Dakota congressional leader who held a position that was in concert with the OVERWHELMING majority of citizens of North Dakota, If anyone is to blame it is you and the North Dakota Democrats! As I have said before as a life long democrat, how is keeping the name not a democratic issue. It falls squarely in the realm of big money vs the wishes of the people. That is about as liberal as you get. Unfortunately, the people of North Dakota, especially more liberal minded, have been brainwashed into believing that this is a political issue. It's not, it is simply right vs wrong on the most fundamental level. You should go get a job with the NCAA. Ya know, since they are your god and all... Fear the NCAA, for they do not answer to your laws, they do unto you what they want so do as they say! huh?? -
But again, was there a law suit filed by the "victims the NCAA was "protecting" with those sanctions? I'm saying it is the 1-2 punch, constitution and the fight in the Sioux people that will win this.
-
How long do you think the NCAA will punish UND with a constitutionally defined name added to the fact that the people they purport to protect have had such a strong position on the matter that they filed suit against them. This issue is not going away. We should stay strong in the fight.
-
I think the question is that of the "harm". What is the harm? That is the debate isn't it? If I say that I will burn down your house if you don't stop playing loud music late at night, does that mean that if you play loud music at night your house will be burned down?? Nope.. Threats vs harms. Could be the same or not the same. My problem is when people treat them as synonymous in order to make a decision, especially a decision that involves great loss..

Kelley / SBoHE Deceived the Legislature and ND People
yababy8 replied to star2city's topic in UND Nickname
Dude, Are u serious? U suggest that to consider Kelly and the SBofHE as working to illiminate the Sioux name as a conjured conspiracy theory yet u dart !@#$ out of your keyboard all day long that one of the Sioux name defenders is only doing so for political position and in fact does not really care about the issue? Your one of those people that truely believe that saying something makes it true. -

Tragically this truth has been obscured and therefore resolve curtailed by the invitation of political relevance. How preserving our name became a exclusively conservative platform is beyond me? To me, a liberal minded thinker, this issue falls squarely in the relm of big money vs the will and desire of the people. Ie the dictatorship of the proletariat... And now we all stand to lose so much at the hand of a threat by a private enterprise whom which cares not one bit about the people of the Spirit lake Tribe.

Quote from North Dakota Senator Espegard- "I didn't understand, at the time, all of the ramifications. But I do understand, and I think you all do today, the ramifications of this law, and today it's time to repeal the law," Espegard said. "Let's move the University of North Dakota forward and get by this very divisive thing." There are no two ways about this fellow Americans, This is a perfect example of big business telling our public institutions AND government what will be. So if anyone reading this thinks this country is run 'by the people for the people' they need to think again! This is par for the course in an ugly symphony played out over and over again from sea to shinning sea. The government of North Dakota got told what to do like a child! Merry Christmas Sioux fans and happy holidays Sioux Nation. Your voice will not be heard, so says the NCAA one business under God!
