  1. Why not? It's the logical (and very admitted) reasoning behind why so many people don't want a new nickname.
  2. I'm curious how big the outcry would be if Kelley removed Rough Riders from the list before a vote.
  3. The copyright issue has nothing to do with it. The best chance for the nickname crowd to prove their point is by distancing themselves from the Fighting Sioux Forever folks. Otherwise, it just looks like they want to unofficially be FS, which is why the committee got rid of it in the first place.
  4. Of course the announcers will all be the same in 10 years for the Frozen Four so they won't have any need to mention the lack of a nickname to the viewers. UND is such a well known shool throughout the nation that nobody will think it's weird or wonder why UND is the only school in D1 without a nickname. Just keep thinking that will be the case.
  5. How many teams are in the ncaa? How many broadcast crews will do und games each year? You can bet the teams UND plays and the announcer teams will continue to change.
  6. There will eventually be an end to the questions about the new nickname. There would never be an end if und didn't pick a name.

    Hey Jim

Also Jim, I propose people are no longer allowed to use nicknames on here and must instead use only their real names. I've been shown the light and clearly having a nickname is the worst thing in the world other than a one direction concert.
  8. In no particular order: Marketing of apparel, less focus on the school with no nickname and more on the game, moving past the Fighting Sioux name, allows the school to control how the teams are referred to by the media, less confusion between und and ndsu across the country, not having to go through this asinine process in 5-10 years when the new president demands a nickname, being 100% guaranteed of compliance with the ncaa. There are at least Two reasons for you which have an impact on the school's finances, which would mean the ability to better fund some teams which could lead to an increase in quality of teams. I would like to hear your variety of reasons as to why not having a nickname would benefit the University.
  9. You clearly have no idea how pre-game research actually works as evidenced by your post. But if it makes you feel better, go ahead and believe it's some third rate announcer giving Hajdu a call and needing it to be clarified before a game.
  10. The overwhelming majority of focus on the NFL broadcasts is on the team, players, event they're playing in, and team. That doesn't mean everything said about the NFL is positive. UND should adopt a nickname for a variety of reasons, one of which includes media coverage before, during and after a sporting event. It's by no means the main reason but it definitely is a legitimate reason.
  11. You accuse Kat of conjecture and then you do the exact same thing two sentences later. The no-nickname crowd certainly does a good job of screaming like small children. We'll see if they get their way...
  12. Perhaps if UND becomes the North Stars, then it will confuse some non-UND/NDSU fans and there will be a ridiculous turnout of hockey fans looking for some old-time Minnesota North Stars games.
  13. I don't think anyone really knows but it could be tonight. I personally think they should get down to 2 names tonight and get it to a vote in mid August.
  14. Unless the game is at 8 pm, I won't be able to make it. Really hoping for a late start but that's unlikely since it's not a TV game.
  15. If 90% of the readers need to google a word to know what it means, the writer isn't doing a very good job of reaching the masses with their point.
  16. A loss is a loss no doubt, but that Missouri State game is a prime example of UND's offense being so inept that the opposing team eventually wears down a defense with minimal depth. In the first half, UND's defense gave up one touchdown to MSU. That TD drive was for 8 plays and 79 yards. The other seven drives went for a total of 26 plays and 92 yards, an average of 3.5 yards per play. UND's defense was dominating for the first 35 minutes of the game. Unfortunately, during that same 35 minutes of the game, UND's horrible offense had 4 three and outs. This was not a game where they were run off the field early and often. UND had no offense and the defense was exhausted. With limited depth, they didn't stand a chance in the 2nd half.
  17. I'm pretty upset Frontier isn't flying into Fargo anymore. No more $180 roundtrip flights from Denver to Fargo. I have to either pony up $400 or fly into Bismarck or the Cities.
  18. Yes that thread was drifting a lot but I liked having a single place for the trolls to congregate. It kept other threads fairly clean and on topic.
  19. I can't believe Red River hasn't had to cancel multiple sporting events due to other schools bombarding them with those colorful references.
  20. Coverage starts at 5, game is at 7 est.
  21. Myself, Ms southpaw, Mr and Mrs Siouxman, Mr and Mrs Morley plus little Morley, Keikla and Mr Keikla.
  22. Und produced the volleyball and basketball games and gave the feed to FSN. They could do that with football too once the contract is up with Midco.
  23. Perhaps once the Midco contract is up. I believe they're starting year 4 of 5.
