  1. why are we even debating possible recruits? don't you all know, UND will never get any recruits because of the lackluster broadcast of games. ndsu and their two games that were broadcast this year will draw more recruits than UND could ever think of having.
  2. the ndsu football games that were aired on wday this year were announced well in advance. the decision to air them was made more than one week in advance. there are rules to pre-empting network shows. that's one of the major reasons why sioux hockey is now only on the fssn and not on wdaz. there's not a hate of UND and wdaz by forum comm.
  3. it sucks, but it's true. we get a ton of phone calls just when shows are delayed 10 minutes. if something isn't actually on, the flood of calls is nonstop.
  4. that is an option. right now wday/wdaz have three channels up for their digital signal. one is their main one, two is the radar with wday radio and three is radar with the national weather service talking in the background. i don't know exactly what it takes to just switch the output to a signal, but i don't think it would be too hard. perhaps just drop the radar on 8-3 and air sioux games. however, even then, only those with hd tvs, or tuners, will be able to get the signal.
  5. my video feed is now green and upside down.

    UND vs UNO

if UND's d has ever wanted to win a game, this is now going to be it.
  9. don't think that beacause i'm realistic that i'm not a diehard. i'm as pissed about this as many of you, but my frustration isn't at wdaz/fssn. i've been in their shoes and i know what it's like. believe me, (and i know they've been getting a lot of blame lately) but the ncaa is who needs to be blamed for this one. we're spoiled, but at least we get to listen to the sioux football game online for free. fans of a certain school to the south have to pay for that. just think if we were "on par" with all of the other schools in the area. we wouldn't even thought about getting our hopes up that this game would be on tv.
  10. nick fuher's goal from the point against denver, sunday afternoon to head to the final five.
  11. i do not work for wdaz. i did in the past, i currently work for their competitor. however, i also have worked with the fssn and i understand how it works. grand forks and UND get a ton of exposure across the state and region because of the fighting sioux sports network. everyone just takes it for granted. no other school (other than umn) has anything close to fssn in the uppermidwest. we're spoiled.
  12. thanks for doing this pcm. have a good thanksgiving.
  13. it takes max $150 to drive to omaha from north dakota and get into the game. why doesn't everyone just do that? or is everyone too cheap?
  14. that has more to do with what wdaz has to work with. nothing against grand forks, or those working at wdaz, but there is generally a reason they are working in grand forks. either they are new and learning the ropes of the process or they are lifers that maybe don't have the talent to move forward. (there also are those who are very good at their jobs and live in grand forks because they love it). when you get a mix of people like that, it's tough to put on a super professional broadcast. the equipment wdaz has to use is a completely different issue.
  15. how many times has wdaz/fssn come through in the clutch when we want to see playoff games? they have provided sioux fans with the opportunity to see a ton of games. they have worked incredibly hard everytime to bring the games to the fans. why would it be any different this time? why, after years of bending backwards to get things done, do you think they suddenly would just "give up." pat is very dedicated to sioux sports, including sioux football. if he doesn't think it is possible to air the games on this short notice, it's not because he didn't put in every effort possible.
  16. i'm not quite sure people realize the capabilities of wdaz and their staff. they are a small time station, no question about it. they don't have an unlimited budget, they don't have a huge staff of people to choose from to help out with games. they are in the bottom half of a tv market that is in the bottom half of all tv markets. they have done an amazing job all things considered with fssn and the other productions. don't expect fsn type stuff from them, because wdaz is nowhere near that good. they've done a great job and many times people expect them to do things that sometimes just aren't feasible for such a small station.
  17. i'm not saying the thanksgiving and family are the reason why they weren't planning on doing the game. i'm saying that with the late notice, it becomes a lot harder because of thanksgiving and family. were this not a holiday weekend, i think they would be able to get the broadcast on, even with such short notice. however, because a decent amount of the production crew will be celebrating the holiday, it is much harder.
  18. and so far he has a goal and an assist.
  19. i've said it before, i'll say it again. putting these broadcasts together takes A LOT of work by A LOT of people. there are things more important that watching a sioux football game. i'm not happy it's not being aired, but i also am realistic about people wanting to spend time with their families instead of working their asses off.
  20. i'm saying there are a lot of things that need to happen in order to make the "vacation" possible. you need a decent amount of people who know what they're doing to put together a broadcast, especially on the road. it's not a "grab stuff and go" type thing. there is a lot of planning that goes into putting the games together. it's not as simple as just hooking up a couple mics and a camera.
  21. nobody expects a perfect continuous schedule in tv. but you can't honestly expect people to be willing to drop any and all plans to be with family so you can watch a playoff football game. i'm all for getting to see as many games on tv as possible, but there are also more important things. a person's career is not their life. most of those who work in the business understand that at times they will have to go out of their way, but there are exceptions. this weekend, i'm willing to give them a pass.
  22. no, it's not.
  23. i agree. i mean it's not like it's a lot of work to setup advertising for a 3 hour broadcast. that easily could be done in two days, especially when one of them is a holiday. then of course, having a crew of 20 people be on alert in case they have to drive to omaha to put on the show. wdaz seriously needs to get their act together.
  24. sometimes it's out of wdaz's control.
  25. wdaz is the only station that employs a full time staff in grand forks. a majority of those who run fssn are wdaz employees and are easily able to make it all the games. while some people who work for stations in fargo do drive up and work during the games, most of them actually work for the ralph and not for fssn. while it may be a good idea in theory to have a better station run fssn, i don't think people realize the amount of work that goes into airing these games. it's not an easy production and takes a decent amount of planning.
