NORTH DAKOTA vs. BEMIDJI STATE - Saturday SENIOR NIGHT
Big A HG replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Unfortunately you're not the only one...count me in that same boat. If I wasn't smack-dab in the middle of Fargo, DirecTV wouldn't have even crossed my mind. Other than the Sioux games (and the price after your newbie contract is up), it's been a pretty good service. -
Yeah, Minnesota has worn 'em a few times this year. In all honesty, I think it's a pretty sharp sweater...for a Gophers jersey anyways.
-
Well, to be fair, 17 of those "Big Ten" titles were actually titles won in the WCHA. As far as I'm concerned, the NCHC has 0 titles and the Big Ten has 0 titles.
-
Those are some pretty nice words.

I've never done the breakfast so I really want to go. Trying to convince my sidekick to go...maybe he'll see this. I'm open to either day.

I'm surprised Central Michigan was never on board...and why not Grand Valley State while we're at it? GVSU has over 20,000 undergrad students for 2012-13 (CMU has over 27k). Two large schools in a big time hockey state.

I'm not scared to play 'em. It wouldn't bother me much if we lost to 'em. It's just the Fargo crazies that surround me in this town that would drive me nuts. And you're right, Fargo's hockey culture is far from GF standards, but Moorhead has a pretty strong hockey background. And just to throw my hat in the ring of B1G schools adding hockey...Nebraska makes the most sense as I mentioned in a different thread not too long ago. Great crowd of hockey fans with the Stars. My quiet dark horse though is Purdue. It's in a great location (not far from both Chicago and Indianapolis) in a spot that lacks hockey, but has a decent hockey following. Also, Purdue has the least amount of varsity sports in the Big Ten and talks of adding more...a surplus of money being the only reason preventing it. In any case, big time donations would be required at any school.

I agree. I'm not sure our defense is going to be stellar, but it's going to be above average. I do hesitate on saying Forbort will stay though...I think there's a legitimate chance he goes. I hope he sees what guys like Kristo, Knight, and Frattin were able to do with another year (granted they are all forwards). It's really hard to gauge who's going to stay and go nowadays because so many guys that don't seem ready make the jump, yet others who do seem ready stay.

Awhile back Syracuse was supposed to get hockey but it unfortunately fell through. I can't remember the specifics.
-
Trust me, you don't want NDSU to have a hockey program as a Sioux fan. Imagine Bison fans after the first time they beat UND. Think their fans are bad now? They may not beat UND for awhile, but it would happen at some point.

I thought Stafford's goal the other night would get him going, but he's having a poor season offensively so far with only 1 goal in 20 games (translate that to 4 goals in an 82 game season). Yikes!
-
Yeah, Rico loves to split time for his goalies. They've had strong goaltending in Oxford for years now using a two goalie system. They are pretty consistent with how they do it too.

Wow, thanks for the offer Uncle_Rico, 2006-07 Matt Watkins green 2007-08 Zach Jones white

Tate came here knowing full well he was a practice goalie. That is not a knock on him AT ALL. I would love to see him get some ice time, but he knows what his job is, that's why he takes it in stride and has a great time doing what he can to help the team. I'm sure he would love to get on the ice, but things are still too tight. I think the boys are going to try hard and get a nice lead for Tate to come in, but if it doesn't happen, I don't think Mr. Maris will be upset.

Not exactly, as neither are in the PWR because their RPI's aren't high enough...but yes, Penn State's RPI is higher than Duluth's.

Dump and chase has worked because we usually have some big/physical guys. Dump it in, go nail the opponent to the boards, take the puck. Rinse, repeat. By the 3rd period, those other guys are so sick of getting hit, it opens things up. This year, the guys aren't as big or physical, so it hasn't as worked as much, but if you've noticed, we have really cycled well lately.

All Time Sioux Greats Roster, who would you choose?

I'm on my phone so I'll keep this short until later, but Chay has been to three Frozen Fours. -

All Time Sioux Greats Roster, who would you choose?
Big A HG replied to tho0505's topic in Men's Hockey
Yeah, but the problem is, you said leadership is what put him on the list. What made him such a better leader than any other Captain the Sioux have had? In my opinion, he was a good, not great player. That's all fine and dandy that you mention, and I quote: "Greg Johnson, Toews, Duncan, Parise, Frattin, Ward......" ....but where did I mention those as players that should be on the roster? Just to save you some time, I didn't mention those players, so why are you bringing them up? I'm not saying that Genoway was a bad player, but if you think he's one of the six best defensemen to ever wear a Sioux sweater, I think you are pretty ignorant on the history of the Fighting Sioux. How can Genoway compare to Bill Steenson's three All-American awards, an NCAA All-Tournament team selection, and Captain of a National Championship winning team? -
Sorry, I thought a date had been decided based on the polls, but I have been mistaken. Carry on!

So is it on Friday or Saturday?

I agree. I really think the pros of this changing landscape outweigh the cons in this situation. I don't think anyone is gaining a distinct advantage over anyone. Yeah, it hurts to lose games against Minnesota and Wisconsin, but our program is so much more than just playing those teams. With smaller conferences, it will give room to other teams who may want to get in on the action. With the conferences becoming as inflated as they were, there wasn't much room for more teams to join. I'm not implying that any new additions to college hockey are imminent, but if a school does start weighing its options, it is much more appealing to know that someone will have a place for you. I think the future WCHA schools will find it beneficial to have greater opportunity to make the tournament. If some of the more prominent schools do their part and continue to schedule those schools, I think it will be a win-win. UND is already doing its part in scheduling Bemidji and Northern Michigan next year in some non-conference action.

No offense, but what did Chay lead us to? Chay has no place on an all-time roster. Good player and good leader but we've been fortunate to have A LOT of good players and good leaders through the years. Steenson was a 3-time first team All-American and captain of a National Championship team...not even a mention. This list should be reserved for the GREAT players. Sorry, but Chay is good, not great. -
Yeah, there are definitely some fun teams coming. Just because they aren't the premier names in college hockey doesn't mean there aren't any fun weekends to look forward to. Miami is going to become one of our more fun rivals on the ice, as they play a very similar style to us...fast and physical with a bunch of skill. I wouldn't mind seeing Vermont in here as well as Northern Michigan (our 1980 title game opponent).

Paul Kariya may argue that one... I could watch that all day...incredible skill level.
