    Lennon gone

No doubt that this is not his last stop. If Dale would have stayed at UND throughout the transition period then you would expect that he'd be a career Sioux. Now that he has moved on I expect him to continue his sucess and what a better place for exposure than in the heart of Big Ten country. It possible some day that we'll see Lennon and Bohl squaring off in a New Years Day bowl game.
  2. I don't know for certain, but I'm pretty sure all WCHA game except CC, Denver and Alaska are bus trips. Madison is a long trip, but not nearly as bad as that Tech trip. Yuck, 2 lane roads and guaranteed snow. Luckily we got that one done early this year.
  3. Wan't Jason Blake's first NHL goal in his first game with the Kings? If not it was close.
  4. UND would have probably hired Dan if he would let them. He doesn't need the money, why pay him if he doesn't want to be paid. Now I'll put my Sid Hartman voice on. Dan's a close personal friend of my family and used to be a neighbor when he lived in Fargo. He is nothing but an asset for UND. Also, a great guy.
  5. Let's not get to carried away with our definition of a sell out. There are many games throughout the hockey season when there are plenty of open seats, due to no show, and poor student turnout (upper deck). Since I didn't get my degree from either school I can be a fan of both schools. I live and Fargo and try to take my kids to a couple of NDSU games a year and it is getting harder to get good seats of 4 in a row this year. I truely hope that both schools need to expand football stadiums.
  6. I'm guessing the "checkmate" is in Russia right now. What is everyone's opinion on a new AD, if and when it is needed? Should it be a familiar name like Bollinger, or should UND go outside of the area? I know that didn't work so well with Bunning, but it has worked well to the south with Taylor. Also, I have a question. Everything I've read states that the AD reports directly to Harmenson, is that true? If it is, does the Taylor report to a VP or directly to the president? It seems to me that UND maybe has an extra layer of reporting that is maybe muddying the waters. Very interesting stuff.

    UND v SUU

SUU is a decent FCS team that I'm sure the UND players and staff are very excited to play. IMO, UND by 10 is a good line. The pass defense concerns me a little bit, but it think the offense should be able to outscore SUU. If it is a blow out I'll be a little surprised, but you never know.
  8. That is a great story. I had Myron as a government teacher at South, but never had him as a coach. I had heard that his health was slipping, but I didn't know he was confined to a wheel chair. Thanks for sharing.
  9. Finally after years of HS Hockey being played in the Coliseum ground is being broken on the $30 million dollar UP Center TODAY at 3pm!!! Can't wait to see it in 2008. Squirt, Pee-Wee, Bantam, HS, or USHL, I can't wait to sit in a decent arena in Fargo!!!
  10. I guess the question then is, who's option? Is it UND's or the radio station's? If you read into what McFeely wrote Sunday, you can guess that NDSU taking a hard look at KKAG. As a fan of both schools it would be great to get both on a statewide station.
  11. Team ND probably had an advantage with the 13 kids from South High. I think the entire O line was from South. Not that the South kids are that much better, but I'm sure team ND played more like a team and less like an all-star team. Great Job Team ND!!
  12. SiouxForever- FYI, your not the only person on this board who has played HS hockey, or played with current/former D1 athletes or for that matter played with/against All-American's, Hobey Baker Finalists/winners or NHL all-stars. Just don't look down on those who maybe haven't played organized hockey, you may be surprised on how much an "outsider" might understand about the game. The biggest problem that I have is that you coming off like you think your the second coming of Dean Blais or Herb Brooks, and I pretty sure your not. Just ease of on preempting everything you say with "I know a lot about hockey". WHOOPDEY DOO!!! So do a lot of us.
  13. I get a kick out of Radke. He did give UND's forwards a little "edge" last year. Character guy may be taking it a little far. What choice did he have? Play forward or sit on the bench. IMO, a character guy doesn't make a habit out of taking stupid 3rd period penalties all the bleeping time.
  14. I'll trade you our Olive Garden and Krolls for your Boston's.
  15. LeftyZL- I agree with most of your points, but I remember Porter being billed as one of the fastest players not only on UND but in the entire WCHA.
  16. DaveK, if UND wants to survive in DI than you will need a big payday if not every year then everyother year at least. Look at App. St. last time I checked they had a pretty good FCS program, but they still look for a big payday. Those $300K-$500K paydays pay for alot of non revenue producing sports. It's a fact of life, and I think that Bunning and the rest of UND's athletic department would agree.
  17. I always thought that the Iron Range was in Minnesota. I must be mistaken.
  18. It will be interesting to see if the Gophers can upgrade the team to go along with the schedule. I personally Brewster still saying all the right things. If they continue to field below average teams and upgrade the schedule they'll be wishing for the Music City bowl in the Beirman (sp?) Building. THe big powers in the Big 10 (Mich, OSU, Iowa, ect...) still field one regional FCS team. IMO, when this all shakes out in a couple of years I still think we'll see a regional FCS team each year. For the sake of the four Dakota FCS teams I hope I'm right.
  19. Not only are the larger funds more sophisticated they also have more money that they can invest in riskier ventures. Where a college/university with less funds can't afford to risk their principle. Also don't forget that 2006 was a great year for the markets. It didn't take a sophisticated investor to make money last year.
  20. 12% might be a little greedy. You forgot to include inflation in your calculation. CPI averages around 4% (lets not even talk about higher ed inflation) then you only have 2% to play with. IMO, these large endowment funds are invested fairly conservatively, maybe to a fault. My guess is that their goal is 8% with anything more being great and anything less than 7% being unacceptable. i.e. assets managers loosing their jobs. I have lunch with some members of the UND foundation about 6 times a year, I'll have to pick their brain a little on this. Thank you to the Engelstad Family, IMO, this is just the beginning. When Betty passes on, hopefully in many years, I foresee the Engelstad Family Trust giving a bulk of its assets to UND. That number will probably in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
  21. I don't think money is the issue b/c as the number 3 pick in the draft the blackhawks know that he will not expect anything but a max contract, and offering anything less is laughable. In this day and age of the NHL there is not a lot to negotiate. We all know that the max signing bonus is capped at $85K, a $850,000 max base salary with attainable bonuses that could get him to $2-2.5mill. IMO, if the Blackhawks are not offering exactly what St. Louis offered EJ than Toews may be doing what MFJJ did and hold out in college for a trade, or wait until he's a FA next summer. My guess is that the max is, and has been on the table for over a year now and Toews is still decieding what is best for him. If he continues to play well at the WC and then spurs the Hawks for another run at the WJC (he'd be the captain) JT will have Canadian endorsers throwing crazy money at him. It's crazy, but could happen.
  22. Summary of the game: http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/news_sto...66&hubname= At the bottom of the article it say's that Team Cananda will be auctioning off the black jerseys starting tomorrow. It will be interesting to see how hight Toews jersey goes. He's quite a star in Canada right now.
  23. First, I think that the concept of the Vikings Stadium is great. That eastern part of downtown is underutilized and this could really be a great anchor of development. I will say that a BILLION dollars is a lot of cash and it will be interesting to see how they structure the funding. The Minneapolis area has to have a retractable roof stadium to compete for NCAA's Super Bowls and whatnot. I've driven by the land that's going to house the Twins stadium, and I can't see how it's going to fit. It's going to be crammed in to that lot. IMO, I think we can suffer through a few bad weeks of weather. I thought we were tough up here?
  24. That's a long way to go if he doesn't make the team. I guess he'll know if he's ready for the NHL after training camp. Is he the only college player invited by Canada?
  25. Just a quick question since it sounds like you might know. What kind a status are players like Vanek and Parise given after their 3 year rookie deals are finished? Restricted FA, FA, something else?? IMO, I guess I don't give as much weight to +- as you do. I don't see Vanek getting a million more than ZP. ZP just may be the best player in NJ (not including Marty), Vanek is somewhere in the top 5 for the Sabres (not that there is anything wrong with that).
