  1. South didn't play their starting goalie. Janick played instead of Bucholtz and from what I've seen this year, there's a BIG drop between the two. I don't know why Bucholtz didn't play. Maybe Benson was playing this one close to the vest knowing he may see Bismark at state. Yes it was 1992 when Minot upset a stacked Bismarck team ( one of the better teams in the 90's, IMO) for the state championship. Peluso was a Junior, and played in Omaha his senior year. Edit: Didn't see your post Hockey High, thanks for the info.
  2. While trying to find the video of the goal I found the same question being asked, and the answer is that the NHL has made a specific exception for the spin move. I'm not going to find it but apparently it is in the NHL rule book.
  3. Thanks for the update. I hadn't heard that, and that certainly would have made a difference. I'm looking forward to seeing both GF schools and Bismark in Fargo.
  4. South beat Grafton 7-3 at the UP Center. South scored 4 goals in 2 minutes towards the end of the 2nd period to put the game away. Grafton outshot south 16-8 in the first period. Grafton carried the play in the first but when they announced 16 shots I was surprised. South seemed to sleepwalk through the 1st and most of the 2nd period. From what I saw South carried play in an uneventful 3rd period. Quick summary. As this point of the year South really seemed to have the edge in both skill and physical play. If south would have played the way they played against Moorhead and White Bear this game could have gotten out of hand. Overall, it was a sloppy game with little flow. South defence turned the puck over countless times in the 1st and 2nd period, Grafton didn't have anyone who could capitalize on those mistakes. In the Forum Grafton's coach stated that he wasn't worried, it's early and they'll play south again. While it is early, I don't see Grafton competing for a top spot in the EDC unless they improve a ton.
  5. An update on south. South beat North 3-0 on Thursday, and like jloos said they really looked bad. 0 shots in the first period. Also, the Forum had a small blurb, but it looked like South beat Central up in GF 4-1. Bucholtz played great, again, for south as Central put close to 35 shots on net. Grafton plays at South today in a match up of 3-0 EDC teams.
  6. Your probably right, with the disallowed goal. I was only going by what I was told. Good match up in Fargo tomorrow. South -v- North at the UP Center. We'll get a chance to see how improved North is. South should win, but in these "rivalry" games you never know.
  7. Just an FYI: Fargo South beat then #8 ranked White Bear Lake 4-3 at the UP Center on Friday. From what I heard, didn't see it. South played very well in the first and second, but started chasing WBL in the third. Also, I don't know the circumstances, but WBL had a goal disallowed. Good start for South. Now on the intrastate matchups.
  8. I'll comment on the South Moorhead game. Very evenly matched teams. Good to very good goaltending both ways. South's strength rignt now is in the net and on the blue line. They are very big and very physical. South's going to need to find some scoring. There were a lot of missed opportunities in where nets were missed and shots were fanned on. Moorhead is going to be pretty good. From what I understand the spuds haven't had as much practice time as a team as south and it showed early on. South seemed to trasition through the nutral zone much better then the spuds in the first period, but as the game wore on Moorhead got better and better. I didn't see a big drop off between each teams three lines, I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. South will be a contender in the East and if they can find some scoring they will have a chance at state. Not that it means much but I think these bantams finished 2nd to Grafton. Moorhead will also contend in a down year in Sec 8. I would have liked to see this have closer to christmas, like it typically is played, that would have given me a better look at the two teams.
  9. I don't think it has anything to do with Fargo leaders not wanting to be the lower level partner. IMO, it is a clash of the ego's of those running the REA and those running the UP Center. I don't think those at UP left on the best of terms with REA. From what I've heard the UP wasn't even contacted by the REA. I wish both venues could have worked things out, maybe in a few years.
  10. I'd call the ticket office right now and inquire about group ticket sales. I don't know the protocol, but it can't hurt to ask early. Go to REA's website, there may be a specific contact for groups. Good luck.
  11. Just saw your post and your family is in our prayers. I have two boys a 6 and a 3 year old and I can't imaging going through this. At least these little guys are as tough a nails and I'm sure Will will get through this no worse for the ware. Best wishes.
  12. There may have been some liberties taken with attendance. Back then attendance drove who got the bids to host playoff games, so those totals might be a little off. Like 5000+ off is my guess.
  13. Not to piss in everyone's kool-aid, but it might also have something to do with the fact that REA has more seats than the John. Still great job GF and eastern ND in supporting the Fighting Sioux!!
  14. DaveK- Your guilty pleasure mean that in the eye of many in the medical field you ARE a smoker. My wife had pnemonia when she was a baby (did some damage) and can't be in a smokey bar for more than a few minutes before she has to leave. Now I'll be able to take her out on the town and have some fun.
  15. It's good to hear that someone else was having the same problems with the NBC feed. I could hardly watch the game it was so bad. I don't remember game 3 being like that, but 4 and 5 have been terrible.
  16. Not the first time it's happend on this board. I'm sure I could tie this into the original topic if you really want me to.
  17. Front Runner, I'm sure they are lining up to take they job. I've got my Force, tickets, I can't wait to go and pick out my seats.
  18. I don't know about other courses, but on the science side there are several sections of AP Biology, Chem, and physics. They may have to have ap teachers float between the two schools, we'll see. Teacher compensation in Fargo is very competitive with Moorhead. While true salary may be lower in Fargo the district pays for both the employer and employee match in to their retirement account. Plus the funding debacle over in MN would scare the heck out of me if I was a teacher in MN. How often do you see stories about teacher layoffs on the west side of the Red? In Moorhead its happend a few time in the last decade.
  19. I don't have any numbers to back up my claims either, but from what I understand the district is projecting that all three schools have around 300 per graduating class. That brings the numbers in line with were they were in the early 90's and South didn't have any real problems winning state championships back then. The district is saying that AP classes that are offered at south will be offered at Davies, we'll see. As far as recruiting teachers to Fargo, I don't think that will be hard. There are an awful lot of people applying for jobs in Fargo that have to go elsewhere. From what I hear from teachers in the area, Fargo is one of the tougher jobs to get. Plus they are not really going to neeed to add a bunch of teachers, they'll just be moving half to Davies. Qualified coaches is another thing, it seem like the schools have favored hiring from the inside, but they may not have that luxury any more. South been an athletic jugernaut for a long time and that's not going to be the case any more. That may be tough on us in Fargo, but I don't think you'll see the rest of the state crying to much.
  20. From what I can tell there is not really a front funner at this time. It's a pretty good job with the new UP Center coming on line in the next year, and the tournament center hopefully up an running by winter of 2009 (speculation at best). On the other hand it could be very difficult with Davies taking a large chunk of players with it in 2011. Stay tuned.
  21. FS's coach Dean Wilson resigns to become assistant principal at Carl Ben Middle School. http://www.in-forum.com/Sports/articles/202653 I know he had an offer to become an administrator at South 3 or 4 years ago if the dropped coaching. I guess he's ready now. We'll see what happens at south.
  22. I think you are generalizing South Fargo a little too much. There are a lot of parents and students who really like the idea that kids in fargo are going to have a lot more of an opportunity to participate in activities with Fargo South going from a mega HS to a "normal" sized large school. There are quite a few parents who send their kids to Shanley, Oak Grove, or Park Christian just so thier kids can have more opportunities to participate in school activities. Also if you take a look at class sizes at south a majority of them are at or close to the 28 limit. As a tax payer in Fargo, a parent of elementary aged kids and a husband of a teacher I think the new HS is a great idea. To address your statement that Davies will have majority of higher incomes. Obviously you don't have kids at the elementary schools in that area. I'll give you Centenial that's definitly higher income, but take a look at Bennett and Kennedy. Both of those schools have some of the highest levels of assisted lunches in the district. I guess I'm in the minority in Fargo that thinks if the school district has managed their funds appropiately and therefore has built up a large excess fund then they should be able to do what they want with the money. IMO, its better to build a school with cash on hand then having to float bonds. I guess we'll know how this all turns out in fargo in 10-20 years.
  23. That's a pretty impressive feat. I can't think of it happening in the last 15 years, but I could be wrong. Back when I was in HS track the 800 runners were lumped with the distance guys. Now just think of winning those events every year since you were a 8th grader. She may not play football, but Laura Roesler will be fun to follow, where ever here track career takes her.
  24. This may be mocked and ridiculed, but could Fennell be the mysterious donor that's capable of funding the retractable roof stadium? To be fair, I don't think Horner was billed as an elite sprinter. He is a beast in the weight room, from what I hear.
  25. Great for Bismarck. Now they only need the players to go along with their great coaching staff. I grew up playing with and against Peluso, and got to know him better in Duluth. What a great guy!! He had one of the best shot's I've ever seen. He's also a heck of a fisherman.
