I vote for just "North" then.

I'm saying: no use in throwing out names as possibilities that aren't in the final seven, instead of dwelling on what you hate about the final seven find something you can at least tolerate - one of them is going to be on the jersey of our team in a couple of months.
-
This committee is not going to start over - it would be too much of a disgrace to them and UND - heads would roll. They chose the path and the name will come from one of these seven. In a perfect world they would be able to step back and say the process didn't work - but no other school has taken this path so there was no way to know that this was where it would end up. While many of us thought the "Consultants" were hired to bring creativity to the process the reality is they were hired to bring "safety" to the process. You will never get a creative name when "safety" is your primary goal.

I would like to see a poll: As a UND fan and member of this discussion board what would you prefer: - only ban posters who violate site rules - ban posters who are consistent and notorious trolls temporarily when they get out of hand - ban posters who are consistent and notorious trolls permanently - ban all NDSU posters those that are obvious and those that eventually come out from under the rock they are hiding under.

I hope someone from SU is coaching the staff down there to ensure he "gets his day in court."
-
Don't feed the trolls.
-
Actually I don't think they will disappear - many of the top level programs sprinkle in a few transfers most years - depending on need. The right transfers can bring a lot to a team - problem is there are reasons why players transfer and that can mean attitude issues and baggage.
-
Answers to # 1 and #2 - not yet but we are moving in the right direction #3 - Just like last year there will be some pleasant surprises.

Now it's come to bashing people who gave up an incredible amount of their own time and donated it to a project that they knew would submit themselves to endless second-guessing and criticism. No doubt some from the committee are monitoring here - they are doing what was asked of them, sharing their opinion based on what they feel to be in the best interest of UND. I find no valor or purpose in questioning their will to do the best they can, their loyalty to UND or their integrity.
-
What's it gonna take to ban this troll trash?
-
Funny how the SU trolls have time to go back and research the records of teams that UND beat - the same could be said for many of the teams SU beat but it's really not important since this is a UND sports site.
-
This will never happen - SU fans want to be in a conference where you can bus to every game. that's why they are glad they were turned down twice for the Big Sky, they can't afford to be in a conference where their teams would have to fly.
-
Those damn facts - hey trolls don't care about facts. They care about UND.

https://grandforks.craigslist.org/cto/5094852248.html So will there come a time when those with the Sioux logo will be shunned? Please don't turn this into a "If UND bans the logo they'll never see another dime from me" thread. Just wondering if it can transition to a piece of history peacefully. Will items with the Sioux logo become valuable collectors items? Can you see anyone in Grand Forks driving around in this in 5 years (see attachment).

Okay you've made your point - SU had a great run, one of the greatest in FCS history why do you have to diminish it by constantly demonstrating that no matter how great a run SU has, you and many others will be eternally inferior to the extend you have to prowl a UND fan site and set the record straight on every post. This is a UND fan site - we are going to be optimistic about our team (most of us) - why can't you understand that?
-
SU is a double digit favorite no doubt - but check the history (which SU fans have selective memory about). There are quite a few years when the lower-ranked of the two teams was the victor. Let's play the game.

Alumni Association is pretty good about supporting watch parties - you will hear from them I would expect.

If it is indeed $900 for 85 meals that's $10.50 a meal - maybe college students don't like to cook but you can buy a lot of food for $30 a day - especially if they are living in an apartment with fridge and stove. I believe they were starting a scholarship fund to pay for tuition and other expenses that the hockey players have to pay over the summer (I heard about it last winter).

The Minnesota game is on my calendar barring something on my Honey Do list I'll be there in Sioux gear.

So how does the committee not addressing the mystery of whether the NCAA would accept the nickname of "North Dakota" support the premise that this process is being open and communicative? I agree the committee must know something and if they don't they should be asking that this question be answered (but again it is very hard to believe they would allow "North Dakota" on the list if the question hadn't already been clarified by the NCAA.).
-
This is being given way too much thought - it's a nickname. There are no wolverines in Michigan for example - not sure how USC and Trojans are related, there are plenty of high schools that have the same nickname as a nearby college. Also to say that UND is in crisis (because it is changing its nickname) is overreaching. In the big picture it's less than 1% of what UND is all about and what is important for a Flagship University with a Law School and Medical School. A majority of those attending UND really don't care about the nickname. Funding from alumni is doing just fine. UND is building the largest indoor practice facility in the Midwest yet we are "lagging" other regional schools? There are plenty more examples. Mountain meet mole hill.
-
Yes but this also goes back to a program that is run by Chippewas is not inclined to reach out to Lakota/Sioux - the UND Native American Cultural Center is not welcoming to those who have views different than theirs.
-
I'd like to see the Herald tackle that issue - based on the final 7 what did the high-powered agency bring to the table? Just another example of top-level executives being out of touch with their own community and constituents - I've experienced the mind-set too many times - "We have to pay big bucks and use someone from out of state if we want to get something really creative." Was there a RFP for this project? We paid six figures in state tax dollars to come up with what we had before we started. There was no creative thinking brought to the table.
-
And if they wouldn't have gone through this process and just changed the name to Roughrider what would this thread be saying? I agree that using a committee to come up with a nickname is not a process that lends itself to coming up with something truly unique but then again the torch and pitchfork crowd would have been very busy if a small group appointed by Kelly would have been given the job. I still haven't heard anyone share a process that would have been better than this, one that everyone would have been happy with. We know it doesn't exist.

You are allowed to ask the question but I really hope you aren't serious. Have you ever met the man? While message boards allow anyone to bash anyone those who know more than what is posted on a message board would know how much the man has invested in UND. Running the Flag School school of North Dakota is not easy, decisions are not always popular - he knew that the nickname would be an albatross his entire tenure and as emotional an issue as it is - he still had a University to run. Overall UND is in a very good place right now - I'd like to know how anyone could have handled the nickname issue that would not have had different groups of minions angry.
