  1. Okay...Okay...PCM seems to be all knowing and doesn't like to fling crap at anyone without his 3 confirmations from outside sources - good for him! Now, can we talk about your perceptions, not factual representations with 3 confirming sources, on why we think or why we don't think Dean Blais will be the next AD? I will start with why I feel he is the guy... 1. Proven success in Division I hockey and previous coach of the year at that level. 2. Successfull relationship builder with other teams in WCHA and ultimately within Div I environment. 3. He is trusted by the people of Grand Forks...Period. 4. Well to do Alumni like this guy and back him on his ideas. In addition, he has proven he has a link to these folks and can make things happen. 5. He can fundraise - see Englestad Arena and current USHL arena to be built in Fargo. Any takers?
  2. I'd vote for that combo...Sometimes I think we feel that we need to have a diverse experience outside of the Dakotas to help us better understand others and therefore we rationalize the need for someone outside of our geographical and cultural boundaries in the midwest. I for one feel that mentality is a poor substitute for choosing the right candidate for this position and I'm confident that Mr. Smith and Mr. Blais would be very successfull in these positions considering the last two generations of outside leadership for the University. 3. I guess I'm going against the grain today, but I thought the Sioux looked like crap for most of the game again...Blind passing, dumping the puck to the opposing team in our zone, and the inability to make 3 crisp passes was a recipe for their poor start of the season. I do give credit to UNH for keeping the sticks on the ice and effectively poke checking and clogging the lanes against the Sioux, but we have to take the responsibility for not even skating! I saw maybe two people who skated all night and the rest looked like they were pulling plows! If we win tonight, it won't be due to the same play we had on Friday, but rather getting more physical with UNH and clearing the lanes for passing! Lastly, Oshie is an animal and he is relentless when it comes to attacking the puck and the player - he will be sorely missed from our Championship team next year! BobIwabuchiFan
  4. Its a common saying in Grand Forks and for supporters/alumni of the Fighting Sioux - Green is our primary color, so he was making sure everyone understood his history and how he got started. If thats unsettling, then you are up for some severe discomfort as I am sure that SIU is not the only place that produces excellent coaches that were once players and assistants for SIU and chose coaching careers outside SIU. Lastly, you have a great coach and a great human being on your staff and trust me he knows how to beat the Bison and beat 'em badly! Honestly, I would think this is the primary reason you guys hired Dale because the Bison are whopping everyone's butt (except SDSU! ) and you are going to have to play these guys and deal with their pain in the butt fans (See subsequent e-mails from NDSU trolls) on a regular basis. You may beat them in Basketball, but they are going to bring the house when they play you in football and unless you step up to the plate like you did with Dale then others in the Gateway are going to be fighting for the doormat position in the football conference (Notice I am Sioux Fan all the way, but respect is required for a program that beats all of its Div 1A competition for the season with no hope of a playoff or championship! 5. My thoughts exactly, but there is the situation where he is the current hockey coach for the Fargo USHL team...I wish we had a local as President (e.g. Smith) to make the decisions and go with it....
  6. Does anyone know if Blais has applied for the position yet? Also, is there any connection to Harmeson's new role and the advent of the issues with the ol' AD, grievances from Hakstol on the contract, and Lennon's approach to the Montana St. Job? Something's got to be driving this and I'm finding it hard to believe it was just Bunten since he's out of the picture and we have now lost our long term Football Coach?? Not looking for scape goats, but rather some correlation....
  7. To all, Unless I was drinking heavily during the Sioux-groper game, I heard specifically from Dean Blais during an intermission interview that he would be very interested in the UND AD job. He stated that people in Grand Forks want someone who can fundraise, who they can trust, and who has been successfull and Dean stated he that he had all of those qualities. Could this be the reason why Dale Lennon would leave because he knows Dean Blais would get the job and thus football may suffer with a hockey focused AD? Any thoughts? BobIwabuchiFan
  8. I started the post because I thought it was funny how people in Fargo actually thought the NCAA was going to allow them to play in a bowl game regardless of their current level affiliation. I agree with the folks in Fargo that their football team this year was impressive and should they have won in SD they should have some recognition for their efforts. Lastly, thinking the NCAA would be flexible with its rules is about as possible as agreeing to wave the indian tribal exception in our nickname dealings. BobIwabuchiFan
  9. After losing to the Jacks, whats the odds that a big bowl will come courting NDSU - I am assuming everyone in Fargo is waiting for the post man after Thanksgiving? Sounds like a Michigan-NDSU or maybe a USC-NDSU matchup?
  10. I still like the Roughriders...Symbolism is that we were chosen by Roosevelt to ride with him based on his experiences with the North Dakotans and the charge up San Juan Hill was done with ND horsemen beside him all the way...What says more about ND than to have a NY governor choose you to represent the US Calvary in the battle for Cuba? I wouldn't go with the Reds as you would have the inevitable color changes to meet the name and you would be harrassed as being mean to the color blind! ROUGHRIDERS - SADDLE UP!
  11. The whole process was almost sickening...We have the attorney general telling the public that he is optimistic about the process he just got us and that we need to convince the tribal councils to provide us the use of the name going forward. Why did we even go down this process a year ago when this is all we were going to get? What happened to making the NCAA force us to lose the name rather than allow them to continue their disregard for their own contracts and policy? Why not stick it to the NCAA and let them divulge the information they wished wouldn't be divulged? Sure, we would have won the case and set precedent and most likely the NCAA would have rewritten the rules, but damn it at least we know who was really to blame for the name change@! Even if after 3 years we get the use of the name, its subjective use is up to every new tribal council - Christ, you might as well pick a new name now and just stop the suffering. I also don't believe the tribes understand what they are going to get...Basically, the majority culture is going to ignore or forget the American Indian and since it will be out of sight and out of mind, do not count on the culture we have today really giving a damn about the indians or the reservation...Do the tribes understand that this is the probable outcome should we eliminate the name? Sadly, it will be too late when they do and thus we will become just like the rest of the PC universities that deal with Indians with the silent form of racism called low expectations. Lastly, we need to change the name to something that reflects the majority and not a minority which will play the victim card everytime someones feelings are hurt. I would recommend going with the Roughriders as they represent the best of North Dakota fighting for America in Cuba with the most likeable President of the 20th century, Teddy Roosevelt. What's everyones thoughts on that one? PS I will buy enough Sioux Jerseys to last my family for at least 10 generations and I will continue to refer to the teams as the Fighting Sioux until the NCAA tells me I'm not allowed to do that!!!! BobIwabuchiFan
  12. I guess I like what AccountingStu is saying although I don't believe I have ever agreed with the guy...I can tell you that most Fighting Sioux fans would like to help, but there doesn't seem to be very many open channels to help the native americans with the vocal tribal councils calling everyone who likes the logo racists...Is there some other way of working directly with the tribe without threatening the tribal governments power or there perceived authority. Please understand that I'm not looking to continue the fight, but its a good point to try and bring people together and I hope the University is pursuing this as well as they are the legal case. 13. Who is injured on the linebackers side for UND?
  14. I don't know how this is working, but I've got a feed via the internet that is about 7 minutes slow to the game clock. Anyone else experiencing this as well?
  15. I thought Sam Dupris was very straight forward and driven by pragmatism and common sense. To the contrary, Yellowbird's counterpoint interview with the current tribal council leader seemed ridiculous when it got to the point where native american children are somewhow limiting their social view based on a university's logo and nickname? Its like saying I have sociology report that shows scandinavian kids are limited socially by the use of the Viking nickname - total liberal logic!
  16. Just wanted to post something so I didn't have to see the Phil Jackson topic...Is anyone else sick of hearing from this guy and his opinions on the nickname...sounds like phil has been in California sun too long. BobIwabuchiFan
  17. I'm sorry, but I've got to disagree with elkman...We are prosecuting these guys using the ND state laws in a ND state court with a UND judge and UND attorneys for the plaintiff and defendant...If that wasn't enough, we also have the supreme court of ND should we win and the NCAA decides to appeal that is filled with UND law graduates! Lastly, we will never again get tribal council support, but if you polled the actual tribe you would see things differently - also, who wants tribal council support anyway because they change their minds every two days anyway and we would be bipolar trying to gauge support on any given day. Let the court decide and we'll have to live with it! BobIwabuchiFan
  18. Ingredients for the white sauce... Black Pepper Salt Milk (Std 2%) Most Generic Salad Dressing you can find (Don't think ranch, but think the large containers of govt. grade salad dressing). I will not give out the portions for this recipe, but rather let you experiment to get the actual taste...The real hard part, IMHO, is to make the taco meat as dry and spicy as they do... Good Luck!
  19. To all, It just seems that we had this coming to us from the beginning of the whole transition when we chose to defer and many in ND doubted NDSU's ability to successfully transition. NDSU chose to take a risk and its paid off. Now the Sioux are taking the same risk and it to will pay off in the short future. Basically, NDSU needs UND as much as UND needs NDSU in sports - very little. So, lets move on with the petty bickering about a ND football game and work on making the Sioux as good as possible in the shortest period of time by trying to get on other teams schedules (e.g. Big 12, etc.) and develop our own tradition seperate from the constant comparison of our sister college in Fargo. BobIwabuchiFan
  20. To all, How does the size of your parents house and the quantity of garages equate to success or failure in hockey? I don't believe there is any correlation whatsoever to substantiate this idiotic class jealousy arguement as it pertains to hockey success at a highschool level. BobIwabuchiFan
  21. To all, Reminds me of the time I enrolled in a Real Estate course at UND so I could have some information on how to buy property when I graduated from the Engineering school. On a certain day, the professor decided to discuss the costs associated with training a business graduate vs an engineering graduate due to the continuous budget concerns at a state college. He specifically stated from his business department's analysis that it cost approximately 4 times as much to educate an engineer vs a business grad. At that point, one of his business grad students spoke up in amazement..."I don't know why they don't just sell the technology they have over there to cover the costs!". The professor responded, "What technology are you talking about?". The student replied, "My roommate is an engineer and he came home last week with a pipe looking device with copper wire wrapped around it and when you hook it up to the tv it allows you to watch cable for free! You could easily sell that for $10 or more to anyone on campus or across the country!" The professor looked at the student in amazement...I raised my hand and said to the professor.."And now you know why it costs 4 times as much to train the engineer vs the business grad!". 22. Mplsbison, I still don't know where you are getting your subjective facts for saying NDSU has the top Engr school in the dakotas? What evidence is there other than your known bias? Again, do you have an engineering degree from either school to make your arguement seem somewhat more than sheer guess and assumption? Also, I would think the better fit would be to allow you guys to continue your IE and Architecture programs and leave the core engineering programs like CE, EE, ME, ChemE to UND where energy and mining are the primary focuses. BobIwabuchiFan
  23. Mpsbison, From your comments and logic in this discussion, I believe you have no real experience as an Engineer. If it comes out that you have an engineering degree from NDSU, then it will only substantiate my first comment. BobIwabuchiFan
  24. Maybe, just maybe, it hurts more when your only real program, other than wrestling, gets a thorough beating like they did last night. Again, anyone out there who can pull viewers or ratings for this game? I think we would be surprised on the viewership. Way to go Sioux...Thank god it didn't come down to a chip shot field goal for our wins... BobIwabuchiFan
  25. BincitySioux, I happily stand corrected on the ticket purchase point! BobIwabuchiFan
