Any idea why Gophers Chokers forum was locked?

I hope you are right on the NCAA settlement adjustment because the other option ain't going to happen unless it gets voted down by SR folks on a real election or the SBOHE takes a poison pill and declines to implement the will of the people. So for all of our benefit, let's hope the Mr. Wrigley can convince the NCAA that they have their victory and move on to other more important issues like Ohio State's issues or the low graduation rates or an FBS tournament... I wonder why it was reported at the Forum that UND told the legislature they would continue to get direction from the SBOHE and would continue the transition? Jeez, I hope this thing doesn't get political...

Before everyone commits suicide when the gophers and the badgers go to a 6 team super league of hockey, I would hope we could all understand what this 6 team league is going to have to have to survive and build a schedule. If for one minute you think the gophers and badgers are not going to schedule games with us, then you are smoking something that is illegal in about 48 of our 50 states. I like the odds of the WCHA, especially if we bring in a Notre Dame and Miami Ohio to keep the league at its current size and continue to have top notch hockey games played as well...again, its not going to be the end of the world and I think the Big Ten is probably going to be looking for others to join as well, maybe even the 7, possibly soon to be 8, time national champions....

I notice that you didn't say fighting sioux, only UND...is that something that was a subconcious slip or an intentional display of your real feelings on the nickname? I only stated that putting the atheletes above the right to vote or have your voice heard is backwards in my mind - remember that the whole thing is supposed to be about hostile and abusive behaviors and causing NA to have stunted social development because people cheer on a visual representation of these same people from about 100 years ago, but if you want to construe it that I only want the logo so I can wear cool hockey jerseys around town, then continue to live in the world you envision. Again, I don't think the atheletes are worth more than the right to vote or free speech...go ahead and ask the Standing Rock tribe and the supporters at Spirit Lake...I know we all should feel bad for these kids who are receiving full ride scholarships to earn a degree playing a sport we would all still like to play...again, lets get some perspective...at least Gene Roebuck understands it...why can't you guys who are supposed Fighting Sioux fans?

Lets hope the stance taken by the State will entice further discussions with the NCAA on how they and ND can come to a resolution with little negative effects for both...many may not agree with me that it could possibly come to this, but I'm sure there are many lawyers on this board who know that most times that justice or fairness is very rarely the question, but rather a focus on what it takes to move on...my 2 cents...

Congrats to the Fighting Sioux Men's team on their successfull tournament run and winning their first DI title for the mens basketball program! Now, they win the CIT and the Hockey team takes the National title and we've got one hell of a year!!!! BobIwabuchiFan

So let me get this staight...you don't understand why I bring politics into this because it's not a political issue? Right...keep on believing that and we'll see who has cognitive dissonance. Your second point was something about the fact that 3 or 4 republicans voted against this and thus its a bilateral issue - wrong again...who voted in lockstep with their party to remove the nickname with whatever reason they come up with? I don't think you can count the republicans in the senate, house, and the governorship as being in that camp. Again, the nickname supporters are going to welcome you fence sitters back into the fold once the university and NCAA do what all organizations do when dealing with legal impasses of this sort...no harm, no foul....sorry dlsioux...I'm meant penalty since its all you can understand from a sports penalty analogy....

I would guess Siouxpr is a life long democrat who took up political science or law at UND and now probably works as an aide to the old pomery, dorgan, or conrad clan...just a guess since he keeps pretending he wants to keep the name unless it assualts his liberal beliefs....

I agree with you on this one...why piss away all that you have on an issue they stand diametrically opposed to with the public...better to retreat and fight another day...Maybe retreat on this issue and then use this to come back and fight the dissolution of the SBOHE....

Maybe even the next governor if he can put the NCAA in its place...hell, I would say next Senator from the Great State of North Dakota, Drew Wrigley!

I guess I look at the article as just stating the facts of the situation...UND is still retiring the name until the legislation is signed into law and the board tells them to comply...I don't read the conspiracy into this yet..

I think the NCAA has better things to do than continue to battle with ND, especially when they are not lying down on the issue. Additionally, I think the NCAA knows they can have ultimate victory if they want to, but given the results of today's vote in ND it would border on Pyrrhic if anything. My 2 cents...

I think this path proposed by Daryl would be the path of least resistance and cost between ND and the NCAA...Let's hope common sense comes into play between the two parties and the NCAA lets this die with the consideration of one band of the tribe getting approval and it happens to be the only one contained within the state boundaries and is the closest representative of the namesake. Lastly, I am proud to be a stubborn North Dakotan today and I think many other people will be as well! BobIwabuchiFan

If we continue to play 10-15 yards off of the other teams receivers, then I would say a record of 4-7 is what should be expected. Add to the fact that we don't have a real QB ready to go for the new season it looks like we need to set expectations pretty low and hope for the best.....

Could it be that there are not as many Democrats in the legislature versus two years ago? I know Democrats depend heavily on the votes coming from the reservation and I am assuming the same groups that are anti-nickname are probably left leaning or voted for Democrats to begin with....not saying its the reason, just putting it out there....
