  1. The simple fact is UND vs Minnesota in Hockey is a national game...See tonights viewership/exposure range and try and tell me its not. I travel all around the US and anywhere we have Hockey or NHL, people know the Fighting Sioux. The key fact is that we have had a DI caliber sport at UND for over 50 years and that has considerably more drawing power than the soon to be DIAA UND Football team and the already present NDSU team. If you don't believe me, see where the Hockey game results/articles are located in the major papers in the Twin Cities and the Dakota's vs the Bison's loss (e.g. Front page vs mid or last page sports section). In addition, the Football game was only picked up by the Fox Sports North Network. Tonights hockey game is going on Fox Sports North, The Fighting Sioux Network, and CSTV (National). By the way, the reason for the high attendance at the Bison/Gpher game was related to the fact that if you bought the Iowa game you got NDSU tickets for free! Given all of the above, Hockey has to be a great asset for UND and I would say it far outweighs the NDSU 'once and a while' basketball win or football notoriety. BobIwabuchiFan
  2. After watching the Sioux stomp the gophers in their home rink last night, I was wondering how many people in the twin cities area and the region were watching the game. I would suppose the Bison fans still want to believe that only the Big City Bison football program are the real attention getter in North Dakota, but I wouldn't be suprised to find that the viewers for last night game were probably 2-3 times greater than the Bison-Gophers football game. Considering tonights matchup will be televised nationally, I would bet we are looking at 5-10 times the viewership of the 'grand' football rematch between ndsu and U of M. I know, I know...UND fans are really living in our own little world and no one would even consider this exposure in a say a possible conference affiliation. Again, sorry for the crazy thinking bison fans! PS Before you start yapping about how big fargo is and how much more exciting your sports team is, realize that we are being televised nationally...not regionally tonight! How do you like those apples? http://www.uscho.com/recaps/20062007/m/01/26/UND-umn.php BobIwabuchiFan
  3. Undsportsfan, You have had ample time to read the real feelings of people on this posting board and I can only assume that you do not find it a haven for the Klan or racists in general. To the contrary, the people on this website have tried to understand your points and carefully analyze them per their own claims of keeping the nickname. To that extent, is it not easy to see for your benefit and the benefit of the name changers that the most positive outcome of this whole event would be to side with the keepers of the name and use the raw numbers and positive emotion of the group to spread the culture of the native american well beyond North Dakota in the positive way already practiced? Possibly, enhance the education and understanding of all peoples as it pertains to the native american. Your insistence on the negative of the name and ultimately its removal will only provide you with a pyrrhic victory. BobIwabuchiFan
  4. To all, Some conjecture...I remember from the Gopher/Bison game that alot of people at the stadium wished they could have the Bison coach, instead of Mason. Anyone think he has a chance at the position? BobIwabuchiFan
  5. I'd like to think that there loss is somehow connected with the Greater Karma of the Fighting Sioux. For instance, coming to Grand Forks ranked #1 in the nation and then losing to Holy Cross at the Home of the Fighting Sioux. Combine this with the Maturi press conference to kiss up to the PCers and the NCAA by stating no games to be scheduled with the 'hostile and abusive' UND team and it seems only a fitting end to the whole year for the gophers. Go Sioux! Happy New Year BobIwabuchiFan
  6. If we ever had to change it, I would not want it to relate to Native Americans at all...Best to leave that to the fear mongers and the PC crowd. I would rather focus on the positives of western culture in the state...The fighting Norwegians or Swedes or Germans, etc. should do the job - Lord knows the NCAA wouldn't stand up for the scandinavians@! BobIwabuchiFan
  7. State your cause(s) of action. Being an alum or student of a specific university that uses a "hostile or abusive" team/logo doesn't make you a member of a protected class, even under the Roberts Court. If you think admissions to grad and professional schools are completely objective and based on test scores, grades, etc., you are in for a really rude awakening. I think we only need to look at the newly passed Michigan law against racial preferences to understand that when the people speak, the courts sometimes have to listen. It seems the only people in this fight who think there's a chance in hell of a district court judgment in Grand Forks County holding any water outside of North Dakota's borders are the non-lawyers who think a parking ticket will get them in front of the US Supreme Court. I think most of us are aware that we are not fighting a first amendment case here and understand the best position for our case is to go after the subjective and improper manner of applying rules in the realm of a private enterprise created by a contract and by-laws...Plain and simple, you must live up to your contract. To that extent, I, and I'm sure a majority of others, feel to make this go farther we need the legislative muscle exhibited - much like striking down racial preferences in Michigan. But alas, we know we have Democrats who take a large amount of money from the native americans and thus choose to fight more 'important' battles (Quotes used to emphasize that its not considered a big enough issue by the ND Democrat delegation - basically to be defined by a monopolistic power like the NCAA as hostile and abusive to native americans, much less any other minority shouldn't measure high on any politicians scale of importance). And if you think I'm alone in my thinking in this: From UND's Strategic Plan. I didn't see anything in there about fighting to the last appeal, last dollar spent or to make a point about the absurdity of the NC$$ and certain schools' views on the issue. Oh yes, the University...Remember, its still run in most cases by the inmates and thus the heads of the humanities departments will always see the power struggle between the majority and the minority as their god given reason for living (Sorry to minimalize God with the association to the professors at the college level). Even given that, its still a state institution of learning and if pushed enough to making things right, the people can also be heard loud and clear. Lastly, PCM has stated it with much more clarity than I, but simply put we are fighting for who we are as much as fighting for the freedom of speech and choice. To say these fights are seperate and distinct is to lose the greater picture of what we are as community, not of just UND, but of all ND. BobIwabuchiFan
  8. To all Sioux Fans, It has become abundantly clear to me that even if the court case goes our way and even if a tribal council allows for the use of the name, we will constantly be harassed by the opposite side. To that extent, the best possible solution for UND and Fighting Sioux Fans is to create a law...Very much like the last house resolution sanctioning the NCAA. But since that resolution most likely ended with the 109th congress, we need to do more to make this a reality! Does anyone know of a good site or book on how to establish a PAC? I would like to see some pressure applied on our ND congressional delegation as well as any others that may need reminding that the small group of academic PCs and native americans worried about the nickname is significantly smaller than the majority of voters who helped them get elected last time! Any information would be greatly appreciated... BobIwabuchiFan
  9. Compromise, Compromise, Rationalize....It seems like it works for you...As for St. Louis, how can I find you? Oh yeah, I'll look for the 'Sittin' on the Fence' section!
  10. To all, When is it the right time to stand up and fight? Was it when Engelstad built the rink and brought pride to our small town and state? Was it when the Fed Gov investigated the campus and found no examples of racism/bigotry against native americans? Was it when the NCAA applied the ridiculous 'hostile and abusive' moniker? Was it when Kupchella and the ND AG filed the case? Was it when the injunction was won? I ask this simple question because so many on this board have decided to fight and have now gotten reservations because the University of Minnesota doesn't want to schedule us - Having known the gophers wouldn't play us, would you have chosen to even begin the fight? If you start the fight, then you better damn well be ready to finish and not pussy out by throwing in the towel! In addition, stop throwing in the 'poor atheletes' excuse because this fight is bigger than some kid who thinks he or she is suffering while getting a top notch education on scholarship while playing a game they most likely have loved since being a kid - its a non-starter in my mind and doesn't remove your responsibility for bailing on the fight because you get a little case of weak knees.... Now, bring on the excuse makers, rationalizers, and the compromizers... BobIwabuchiFan
  11. To all, I've heard some positive news from the Star Tribune (aka Star and Sickle) recently about the standing rock reservation having positive responses to the nickname, but still no declaration to its full acceptance by the tribal council. Does anyone have additional news on the efforts by UND to work with the tribes? BobIwabuchiFan
  12. After watching you guys slap around the gophers in Mpls, I'm sure there are a lot of people in comfortable conference positions that don't want you guys coming in and dominating. I hope the situation works out for both UND and NDSU and they can start playing again as soon as possible... BobIwabuchiFan
  13. Wow, I think you need to go read my reply again and understand what apathetic means....I never compared the fight for saving the world to the fight for the nickname. I basically stated how apathetic our country has become since we fought in WWII and we can shake some of the apathy by continuing our fight for what we feel is right (e.g. The opposite of an apathetic response to the nickname). Thanks for your biased feedback... BobIwabuchiFan
  14. Dude, You been smoking wacky weed lately? What in the hell are you talking about? I was commenting on how our country has become to sensitive and politically correct...Given today's media's coverage of Iraq and the middle east, if you were to have these people cover WWII we would have the public demanding an exit strategy for the US even after we took Iowa Jima! How do you get off on saying I'm disrespecting the fallen heros? Christ man, wake up! I wasn't even comparing the two wars? One more hit on the crack pipe stu and thats it for you! BobIwabuchiFan
  15. I forgot to add...I feel we are fighting those apathetic forces today when we stand up for the nickname and the true intentions of the people supporting it...maybe by winning this battle we get a little bit more like the greatest generation who fought and won WWII. BobIwabuchiFan
  16. I wonder what the response would have been to the attack and the subsequent military response of the US if we had today's press covering the president and the defense secretary....Remember, the japanese kicked the s&!t out of the US at Pearl, wipe us out in Philipines, and subsequently snuffed out the british and the austrailians at singapore, indonesia, etc.. I would imagine we would be looking for an exit strategy pretty quickly....Its sickening to see how our country has changed for the worse and how we have become so apathetic of a country in just 60 years... Bobiwabuchifan
  17. I guess I'm struggling with Undsportsfan's logic....If the nickname is put to rest, in her words, then we all must accept this and work with the university and the american indian students to find another name to represent our university. But the converse of the ruling does not hold for Undsportsfan...Nickname is defended in a court of law and precedent is set that it is not in itself hostile and abusive and thus the university and the american indian students, who oppose the nickname, will now continue to support the nickname and will help it continue to propsper and garner more respect. Why do I get the feeling that Undsportsfan would not be willing to live with the converse of the position as she would have all of us live with the loss of the name? Still haven't gotten an answer yet. Lastly, I think undsportsfan is trolling in SS.com so she can gather additional responses from people in the webpage to forward to the NCAA in their case against the nickname. My honest opinion, but I hope I am wrong. Bobiwabuchifan
  18. Undsportsfan, I've found your posts very hard to stomach because they seem to be all touchy feely...Basically, if it feels good to you than its okay, but if it doesn't feel good to you then its got to be bad. You constantly preach understanding, but it seems to be only the opposing group needing to understand you and not the other way around. Lastly, you seem to offer some advice on how to deal with the situation if the name changes (Basically accept it and work with the opposing group to accept their feelings), but I truly wonder if you are going to be willing to do the same if the court case and the final ruling goes the way of the majority?? Your response should be very telling to your true intentions about this subject. BOBIWABUCHIFAN PS If you can't stand the heat in the kitchen, then get out of the kitchen!
  19. Brasco, Get a backbone! Christ...You are already giving up and we are in the homeward stretch of winning the legal case...Get your helmet on soldier and start giving what you are getting! BOBIWABUCHIFAN PS Sorry if it sounds mean, but your attitude is the same shiat I get from all those weenies crying about being in Iraq longer than WWII...The best things in life are never easy to attain!
  20. I'm just glad now that the ND Dream Team will now get to show everyone how to run the country, fight terrorism and handle such a poor economy! What a joke...These guys aren't going to fight for our rights in ND because there is no incentive as the Democrat Siouxforlife portends. Lastly, my gut feeling is that once this gets move to Federal court, we will lose because of some BS interpretation by a Clinton judge that results in us changing our name - how does that fit into the Democrats are going to save the world from the Republicans story??? BOBIWABUCHIFAN PS I can't wait until they decide to impeach Bush....It would be an awesome show of stupidity!
  21. I have to add a little to my impressions during game day by sharing this with all of you... While out in front of the Metrodome listening to the U of M band and listening to the Bison Fans cheer their team, I struck up a conversation with a couple who were die-hard Gopher fans. The guy was suprised with all of the Bison fans and was impressed with their attitude and the quantity of folks who showed up...He and his wife shared with me that their son was a strength coach at the U of M and had been around to a couple of WCHA teams in the last 5 years including Grand Forks. At this point in the conversation, a red-headed bison fan starts yelling that the gophers suck and the Bison will win the game...The gopher fan I was talking to immediately turned around and gave the best response possible... "Go Sioux!" The bison fan looked at him as if he was from Mars...He had no response and walked away with another beer in his hand. The above goes to show that the Bison fans are still bumpkins and that the sheer mention of the real ND team stuns them like cattle in a thunderstorm. BOBIWABUCHIFAN PS. Regardless of what anyone says, the bison did kick MN's ass - plain and simple - I saw it and believe it!
  22. I went to the game and witnessed the following..... - The front of the Metrodome was packed with green and gold...The gopher fans were definitely shocked by the quantity and attitude of the Fargo folks (Note that I use Fargo at this point in the day because I wanted to see the Gophers smack them around and because it is the Bison). - I'm standing in front of a group of students as the MN band is playing and gopher fans were pretty lame. The bison fans were having fun and whooping and hollering. Had about 30 strange looks from Bison fans with my UND hat on and at least 5 Sioux Suck cheers. - Get into the stadium and it has 62k fans packed in and it was loud. I could barely hear the M I N N E S... cheer, but I could hear plainly "Lets Go Bison!". - At the start of the game, it was evident that the Bison came to play and to win. They literally kicked the Gophers ASS up and down the gridiron. At the half, the crowd was quiet as the MN band started to play their superman intro with no one holding their hands up like superman. We leave the seats and the Bison fans are starting to chant lets go bison in the halls and the gopher fans walk by staring at the floor. - I actually start to cheer for the Bison offense as they are making plays. Some may say I actually stood up and cheered for them as well. At this point, MN has no idea what the hell they are doing and are totally surprised by this team from ND that has come to beat them - the gaul! - I end up calling my brother in law who happens to be an NDSU grad and tell him that the Bison are going to win (Notice that I have changed my position entirely). Unbelieveable as it is, the Gophers actually put together a drive and score a touchdown. They now have the lead and this is where I'm totally jumping onto the BISON bandwagon and cheering the fargo boys on to victory. - The collective butt cheeks of the MN fans are clinched as the Bison drive all the way down to their 20 yd line and the Bison run a couple of plays to milk the clock to :01 seconds. It was amazing how thick the drama was in the dome. - Once the kick was blocked, I was actually pissed off for the Bison and let a couple of gopher fans know it as well. As I am walking out of the building, 4 bison a-holes behind me start talking smack about how good the team was and even though they lost they are still better than the Sioux. After the Sioux Suck cheer starts, I turn around and tell them that I supported their frickin' team today and how the hell does the Sioux have anything to do with your game today??? Lastly, as they stood there with a dumb look on their face, I reminded them the last time we played the gophers we at least won the fricking game! (For DaveK's behalf!) So it seems, I'm back to being a Bison and Gopher hater and got that out my system in one day - oh the humanity! BOBIWABUCHIFAN
  23. Anybody catch the attendance at the Badgers-Sioux Game in Madison...I believe its a new record and guess what Bison fans...We do it all over again tonight!!! Sweet mother of Jesus I love UND Hockey! BOBIWABUCHIFAN
  24. See...There you go again getting all of our Sioux hopes up by saying we actually reach people on our network! Great, now the people from Fargo are going to be mad because their network doesn't have as much exposure and they'll keep pointing out its just Hockey anyway. Its time we all just realize that Fargo is better and they get more exposure than UND does in the greater Fargo/Moorehead metropolitan area! BOBIWABUCHIFAN
  25. To Mr. Red Helmet, Bina's hit was during play, was called, and he paid with a penalty. When Bina was injured, I was at the game, 8 rows up in front of the hit put on by Paukavich and he hit Bina after the whistle blew! A world of difference between what you think you saw last night and what happened to Bina. As for having the blinders on, U bet your sweet A@# because its a Sioux Blog you fool! BOBIWABUCHIFAN
