  1. Aff or DI or *Bison, My comments relating to the Hockey team are based primarily on the posting stating that the Hockey program will be a detriment to UND's DI move...To the contrary, we have a hockey program that adds significant positive revenue to the university's budget and when combined with a 90 million dollar facility it brings additional respect and recognition to the university (Sorry, but its true and does need repeating). I am a solid Hockey fan and thus I have a keen sensitivity towards anyone outside of Grand Forks taking pot shots at the program. To aff and other Bison posters, I too also have a big concern on the effects on the Hockey program's quality and the budget with UND's athletic program moving to DI. Honestly, ND can hoot and holler all it wants about its football and basketball, but the reality of low population density and the relative closeness of a Big Ten school does not lend itself to our programs ever becoming the Huskers in Football or the North Carolina's of Basketball. Therefore, that is why I concentrate on Hockey since it is a sport where UND regulary competes and succeeds at the highest level on a year on year basis. To that extent, NDSU and SDSU fans should not look at that simple fact as an insult to your programs current success, but it does require that all use some perspective when they start having dreams of DI championships in sports that have been so thoroughly dominated by colleges and states nowhere near ND or SD. Lastly, the NCAA's control of college sports has basically made it impossible, in my humble opinion, for an NDSU or SDSU or UND to compete in the sports of Basketball and Football at the level we would all hope it could be. 2. Aff or *Bison or DI*, Keep it up...I already hear the keys clicking to send electronic checks...You guys are the best...Keep posting your dribble because its a gauge on how scared you guys really are about this move. I personally don't care if the football or basketball or softball or ping-pong or the debate team goes D-I, but I do care about ND's most recognized sports team (The Fighting Sioux Hockey Team - 7 Time D-I National Champions). To that point, I had to repeat it because it seems to really pi$$ you guys off for some reasons - oh yah! Its those damn Grand Forks people being arrogant again...Someday we'll all realize how great you farmers are in Fargo gosh darnit! PS Quit pretending that you guys really give a crap about UND - you just it so you can get on the board and float your absurd versions of reality. BobIwabuchiFan (Part of our 4th Division I National Championship team - how long do you think it will take NDSU to get even one? Personally my money is on SDSU in Basketball but who really cares about basketball in the upper midwest?)
  3. Can someone help me understand how the Fighting Sioux Club isn't going to be able to meet the necessary funding levels required to compete at DI athletics? The simple truth is that once you guys from Fargo start commenting on the boards that you are so better than Grand Forks/UND you will see quickly how fast the coffers fill...Thanks for doing that by the way because its saves us a lot of money not having to send out mailers! By the way, the UND Hockey Team should never be considered a drain on the state...In fact, its really the only sport that gets ND recognized nationally...Just so you understand, its been doing this for more than 50 years already which seems to be a little longer than NDSU beating Montana or catching lowly Wisconsion on an off night (by the way, its cool you guys finally get to feel how we do when we kick their a#$ on a regular basis in Hockey at the Kohl Center - too bad you won't get to feel that again soon!). BobIwabuchiFan
  4. I'm sorry, but can someone show me the Mascot for UND? I think I have been to about 100 or so hockey, football, and basketball games and have yet to see that mascot? Am I missing something or is Ms. Orygun the only person who has seen the mascot? Again, sorry for my lack of knowledge on this as well, but I thought the representation of the University as Hostile and Abusive was the key facet of our disagreement with the NCAA? Therefore, the logo becomes a metaphor fighting the injustice of the few's decision upon the many. Lastly, US House of Representatives has taken up the cause due to their concerns with the NCAA acting like a social engineering branch of the United States...Now how does the US House of Representatives get involved with an issue like this when we have all these smart lawyers at Marquette and elsewhere who don't want to fight the good fight...Before you respond Orygun, understand that both Republicans and DEMOCRATS have sponsored this bill. BobIwabuchiFan
  5. I was totally knocked off of my chair when I read the full letter....All I have to say is "Where do I send the check for the Defense Fund Chuck?" BobIwabuchiFan
  6. I never said accredited, I said core engineering curriculum..You state simply that you school has more engineering programs which has been proven wrong consistently...Architecture is not an core engineering program. Funny that I've always said that you have core engineering programs like Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil...Good for you, but don't try and state you are better than UND because you have Mfg Engineering, Construction Management, and Landscape Architecture. I hire engineers all the time and haven't come across a landscape architect or a construction management graduate to do core engineering activities in an Engineering business market. So once you tear away your degree programs for the sake of degree programs, then what you have is a department that is a follower of its brother institution in Grand Forks. I can go into details on the various differences in quality between the core programs - For instance, look into the ASME and ASEE awards of each institution and see the difference, but I grow tired of convincing someone who can't see the forest for the trees. Lastly, you have already given up competing against MIT and Cal Tech...This seems to be the difference between UND and NDSU. We have already competed against these colleges and held our own in the Solar Race and also in the Hydrogen version of the race in the last two years. Again, you talk a good game, but in reality you are a 'wanna be'. So, again have fun beating Cal Poly and pretending, but if you want the real thing, its at UND - where it has been, where it is, and where it will continue to be. BobIwabuchiFan
  7. Accredited, but not a core Engineering curriculum...Look it up on google and tell me the history of your so called strong engineering degrees....Start with Construction Management??? Kinda showed up in the 70's right and it just happened to be connected with Architecture which isn't a core engineering discipline. Okay, then lets go to your manufacturing engineering degree - wanna know where that comes from? Its basically a group of mechanical and electrical engineers who worked for the big 3 in the 60's and 70's and they created a technical group that specifically dealt with manufacturing (SME - They actually use to certify technician level people as Manufacturing Engineers if they went through 6 month training course - now you guys have it as a four year degree!)...Not really core engineering, but an off-shot of core engineering fields that produce a speciality. Don't even try to convince me that you have more real programs for Engineering than UND because you have 3 secondary degrees that basically capitalize off of the 4 primary engineering cores - Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and Chemical. Doesn't seem to figure that you somehow have a better program. I hire Mechanical and Electrical Engineers to do so-called "Manufacturing Engineering" all the time and I still require them to do actual design based on their core education - Basically, Construction Management and Manufacturing Engineering are really just job titles in a highly fragmented work world and not a core engineering discipline. I'm also not aware of how many people actually attend NDSU for Engineering, but I can state that UND only classifies you as an Engineer when you have 2 years of generals under your belt and you have been accepted, via application, to a department. So, if you count every tom, dick, and architect at NDSU I would assume you have a larger number, but if you count the quality and the real engineers I would bet we win out by a far margin. In addition, you still have not shown me how moving your athletics program has made your Engineering and Architecture school any better than what it was 4 years ago?? I don't see Solar Cars and Hydrogen Cars coming out of Fargo to complete against the MITs, the Cal Techs, or the University of Michigans? Maybe you guys have some Ethanol ideas, but still haven't read them in the Tech Mags...Good luck though...Maybe some wins against Cal Poly or whomever will allow you to sink more money into your Technical programs at NDSU. Lastly, I think you guys are really good at architecture and running job sites - you win hands down! Also, keep up the good work on the farm...Its needed and valuable to all who eat! Keep your heads up high guys in Fargo and know that you can call us anytime to help you figure it out! BobIwabuchiFan PS NANOBISON, you might want to wash the kool-aid mustache off your face before you go out to the clubs tonight in Fargo.
  8. Just for Clarity Reasons... This is the NDSU site with supposedly 8 Engineering programs (Not likely when you don't consider Landscape Architecture and Construction Management as core Engr Programs). Also note the inclusion of Army ROTC and Military Science activities (What's that all about...Little Jealous about the aviation department and the real ARMY ROTC program at UND?).. http://www.ndsu.nodak.edu/ndsu/cea/ Now compare this to the UND School of Engineering and Mines Page... http://www.engineering.UND.edu/ Add to the idea that the EERC, a branch of UND, represents one of the largest, if not the largest, University-based Energy and Environment research centers in North America and is connected to the Engineering department and the University - makes you think the boys from Fargo drank the Div 1AA Kool-aid and thought somehow they were going to better academically just because they could play Cal Poly in Football. Seems someone forgot that you can't Harvest the crop before you plant it! BobIwabuchiFan
  9. Don't want to correct a UND fan, but the difference is significant. The majority of NDSU programs are not core programs of Engineering. For instance, Architecture is a BS degree, but it is not an accredited Engineering program (Big Difference). Why you say? Because Professional Engineering status cannot be granted to an Architect - so legal rights provided by this certification are not transferrable to someone who has not studied a core engineering program or has been certfied as such through the FE exams. If you don't believe me, then please look at the NDSU school site and then look at the UND SEM site. Vastly different degrees, but you can see plainly that UND's core curriculum is Engineering and Mines, while NDSUs is primarily Architecture. Which, by the way, I agree with NANOBISON or IOWABISON that they have an exceptional Architecture program, but an Architect does not an Engineer make! BobIwabuchiFan
  10. I guess you are right if you consider Farmers as Agricultural Engineers...You guys definitely have us beat when it comes the varied uses of cow manure - Especially when its used to make your weak points... Again, lets talk about the real school of Engineering and Mines in ND...It was sanctioned by the State's Constitution in 1889 (How about NDSU?? 1950s? 60s?). Needless to say, UND has produced more graduates than NDSU - A fact, not a cow chip. In addition, I've looked at your so-called Engineering degree programs...You only actually have 4 recognized Engineering Fields that you grant degrees (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and Geological) - Agricultural and Environmental Engineering are not recognized fields, but possible major focus points of a real engineering education (If you don't believe me, then try to get professional certification as an Agricultural Engineer!). In addiition, construction management and landscape architecture are not core engineering fields either - for christsakes, you can get that training at your local highschool or Vocational Tech Institute (aka Grade 13). Lastly, you guys from NDSU think because you have gone Div 1AA that you now have some kind of new found respect to your Engineering programs - You are just plain wrong. The only institution that provides Law, Medical, Aviation, and Engineering is the University of North Dakota. If you don't believe me, then do a quick search on google by entering "North Dakota State University School of Engineering" in the search field - Guess what? No hits for NDSU, but many hits for UND. Sorry to hurt your feelings nanoboy! BobIwabuchiFan
  11. I agree with the WYOBISONMAN, if the arguement gets to the point of demonizing partying, then the administrators need to jump and stop that type of anti-partying SMACK!
  12. For the guy who thinks that NDSU has the better Engineering school, they need to do some more investigation. Accredited programs in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Geological, and Industrial Technology have UND far ahead of its southern cousins along with corresponding Masters and PhD programs to match. Also consider that the Engineering Department at UND has been around for more than 75 years and probably was at least 40 years old when NDSU was still named the North Dakota School of Agricultural Science - NDSAS (And no, I'm not being sarcastic because thats what they used to be called!). All you have to do is look in the Upson building to see an Engineering Wall of Fame that simply rivals our counterparts to the South - Regardless if its my Arrogance or Pride, its the truth! Hope it doesn't hurt to much!! BobIwabuchiFan
  13. I guess the representative from ND doesn't want to do his job and thinks that bringing legislation onto the floor is a messy and polarizing business. If that's the way he is going to represent ND, then can someone remind me why anyone voted him into this powerful position? Also, why don't we hear these same weasel words from the Illinois representatives? Or the Minnesota representatives? Its time everyone on the forum board start writing the ND newspapers and expressing your concern about Rep. Pomeroy's wobbly knees when it comes to supporting the legislation! Let Earl know we are pissed and are going to be vocal about its so he thinks he has to address it in the media and not with BS, copycat congressional reply letters. BobIwabuchiFan
  14. Very interesting development...Just goes to show that the NCAA will not back down from UND on this issue and ultimately the only way we get justice is to back the House Resolution 5289 and take the fight to the NCAA's pocket-book. BobIwabuchiFan
  15. I think the better expression would be is to elect representatives from the party in control of the congress and the whitehouse. Additional yrs of experience pale in comparison to has majority status in the congress where they decide committee chairs and composition. Ultimately, by having Democrats in office for ND during Republican control has limiting value to the Nickname supporters because the Dems lack power and thus have to depend on support from other groups (indian pacs) to fill their coffers instead of the regular washington PACS who try to woo the majority chairs and their committees. Lastly, regardless of mafiaman's statement on school houses, all we have to do is look at what Earl Pomeroy has done since he was made 'aware' of this legislation and also look at his recent campaign contribution requests that inlcude David Gipp - Kinda hard not to realize he isn't going to help us regarding this issue now is it! BobIwabuchiFan
  16. I would like to believe that Dorgan and Pomeroy were the big reasons for all the money you speak of that was sent to the region, but I think it was the level of the disaster and the press on the subject. Pomeroy in particular is having to be quiet on this issue as well as Dorgan due to their PAC connections to the indian tribes and the fact that the DNC is lambasting the Republicans every day as corrupt for their same dealings with the Indian PACS. Lets not kid ourselves into believing these guys really give a da?# about UND and realize quickly that had we established a PAC to donate to their re-election campaigns we would be hearing sweet music from their mouths on the subject and press coverage from them on a daily basis for the retention of the name and for the slap down of the NCAA. I also can't stand the arguement of not using legislation to solve a problem...Thats what they are there for people and it isn't going to make a difference if one extra bill is placed into the multitude of legislative records already established in this country. Some say let the courts decide, but after years of clinton and Democrat control we have a bench that leans left considerably and would probably rule against us. Again, we are going to have to depend on Republicans from a different state to save our nickname or on Democrats with no Indian ties to the Abramhoff scandal outiside the state. So start e-mailing and calling them asking for their support and maybe sending a small contribution to their re-election fund. BobIwabuchiFan
  17. nodakvindy, I don't understand why you are against a house bill that puts the clamps down on the NCAA or any other collegiate organization for trying to be social engineers...We the public did not elect those people and just because the TV has developed them into a large monopolistic organization brazen with cash doesn't mean that they shouldn't be put in their place. So again, why the big issue with anyone trying to help the Sioux??? Is Earl Pomeroy that important to you?? BobIwabuchiFan
  18. I'm going to have to disagree with you on many points, but the courts one in particular. How is that people feel the courts should legislate in this manner ? The House is doing exactly what it is suppose to do and that is represent their constituents by passing legislation. The whole rationale behind the legislative move is to remind the NCAA that they are not the Congress and they should stick to what they were created for - managing collegiate athletics and nothing else! Lastly, we need to have higher expectations of our legislative branch...I'm sure they can chew gum, handle donations, and get re-elected even if we are at war, with $3 gas, and a bunch of fence straddlers on the ND congressional contingent! Oh by the way, which one of the ND democrats do you work for in Washington? BobIwabuchiFan
  19. There is no way the ND delegation is going to come out in favor of the nickname legislation. Especially when Dorgan has been given a clean bill of health by the tribes themselves during the whole Abramhoff fiasco with the CASINO PAC fleecing. It would not suprise me in the least that the entire ND delegation has received money from the tribes and they are probably being reminded daily that they were given protection from those tribes in the world of the press by stating they had the best intentions when receiving the money to begin with...Don't depend on any strong actions by the ND delegates because they have already been bought and paid for by the tribes and most likely the DNC is telling them to keep quiet on the issue so as not to direct any of the focus away from the republicans...Just my little conspiracy theory, but wouldn't be suprised if its dead on... BobIwabuchiFan
  20. They are politicians..Period. Understand that the other representatives most likely do not have a large native american constituency voting in their state (e.g. North Dakota's 20-30K native american's make up a larger percentage of the state population vs other states). Remember that Tim Johnson from South Dakota basically kept his seat in the house by the American Indian vote in South Dakota...Some North Dakota permanent politicians don't want to imagine that in a close race they would have sent a shot across the bow of the same people who could save their butt in the election. Its all about power and as it currently sits, our Democrat based contingent won't be lifting any fingers to help in this situation unless they can garner more votes than they already have...Sad to think that the University and the people who really respect the name and logo are going to be left standing alone to fight the battle while our great UND Lawyer/Leaders get to watch from the sidelines... I live now in Minnesota and I'm going to make sure the Minnesota contingent is going to help UND keep its name..Sounds ironic that I have to ask a Gopher fan to support our team and can't even get a peep out of the UND gang who represent the state of ND! BobIwabuchiFan
  21. I can understand the smack rule, but is it going to be applied consistently? For instance, "Miles Brand is an international idiot" doesn't violate the smack rule, but making a list of the 10 reasons we can't stand the gophers does ? Although I agree with the Brands an idiot post topic, it just seems a little vague when applying smack to one and not the other...Just my 2 cents.. BobIwabuchiFan
  22. I've posted a topic twice in the last week and it keeps getting removed...The topic relates to the Top 10 reasons we can't stand the Gophers!....Is there something I am missing in terms of topics that are taboo??? Please advise as this is getting tiresome... BobIwabuchiFan
  23. My money is on the NCAA denying the appeal within 5 minutes of discussion and they'll mention the lack of tribal support since the spirit lake nation did not respond to them. Ultimately, it will be a court battle and I hope we can find a judge who can put an injunction on this policy until the case is settled. In addition, I think we have a potential partner in the class action as the Illinios appeal sounded much like ours and vice-versa. We can't let the PC crowd win on this because the slope will be steeper and harder to climb out of if they do win. Go Sioux!
  24. I just want to know if we move to the D-IAA level how long it will take for NDSU to want to move to D-IA?
